I sure wouldn't want to try to strap a video rig onto an eagle that didn't want a video rig strapped on.
You'd need about 300 stitches before you could even say "Owwww!"

Don't gopro me!
I was only expecting one on an eagle bagging mission-- hard to grab two at once. The sibling put a talon scratch down the entire length of my face!

That, my friends, is bitchen.
However, technically probably it is Go-Am since I bet the eagle doesn't get any royalties.
Send that bird to the Minarets to look for Matt Greene.
No bird's eye view comments?
EDIT:
Didn't catch it the first couple runs through, but people show up at :22 and 1:17. Bird's shadow at :56.

I like seeing the shadow a couple times and seeing the eagle look around occasionally. But what is up with the clanking sounds in the soundtrack?

Super-cool video. I'm a little surprised there aren't more of these vids. Go-Pro's have been around for a few years now and falconry has been around for thousands of years.
Watching trained birds of prey do their thing is pretty incredible.
Thanks for posting this, it was a fun ride.

That's really cool.
In April I had a trip to the Verdon, on the day we left we went up to the rim for a final view and came across this crew, who were producing a film of the Gorge.
The day we saw them they were using the mini RPV, which was pretty cool. But the day before they had been using an Eagle, I presume with a rig like this.
I've yet to come across the results.
Steve
The gorge has been repopulated with Egyptian Griffon Vultures. These guys were flying early before the air warmed up, I guess to avoid air traffic conflicts.

The eaglecam is interesting.
It seems to be a new wrinkle in falconry.
Here's another, a little more dramatic:

Gopro's are stupid.
Just kidding, i got a gopro. Now I want a falcon! It could make cooler vids than me all day.
Don't know if my dog would like it.

I doubt the eagle-GoPro combo is for real. GoPros are too heavy. Especially since it seems to be mounted on top of the eagle ( did you ever see an eagle carrying its prey on its back? )
It looks to me like someone rigged their drone with a fake eagle head.
Now an 808 camera, that would certainly be light enough for eagle work. If it was a real eagle, my guess is they used an 808. That's probably what was used on the falcon/duck video.

Must have been an eagle shaped drone because you can see the eagle shaped shadow near the end.
I have no doubt the video is authentic. What brand of camera was used is unimportant to me. But after personally watching a golden eagle lift a baby mountain goat off a ledge in Glacier NP, I believe a trained eagle could carry a Go Pro.

I don't believe that a radio transmitter placed on an eagle(for tracking), is any lighter than a GoPro.
