Did not see this earthbreaking news posted. Hit it out of the park Alex.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/nat-geo-air-alex-honnolds-591168
"Famed free solo climber Alex Honnold will scale one of the tallest buildings in the world for a global TV event this fall.
the cable network is set to document Alex Honnold's latest climb in real time. The two-hour fall event, Live Climb With Alex Honnold, will feature the 27-year-old as he attempts to be the first to scale one of the tallest buildings in the world. (For safety reasons, the identity of the building will remain under wraps until closer to the climb..."
It makes you wonder, how many children will be inspired and want to duplicate this feat. And don't you also wonder if they have permission from the building owners? If they do, what kind of liability issue is that? If they don't have permission, what if the cops show half way in.

I certainly hope that this building isn't simply too tall to climb!

They should conclude the show with the video of that idiot in Canada falling out of the stretch chimney.

"The two-hour fall event",
That doesn't sound good.
Must be a really really tall building.

I'll call it now... something in Dubai. Or Hong Kong. No Euro countries would be up for allowing this.

from the website: Because of safety concerns, the decision hasn’t been 100% confirmed, and Alex has been asked to wear a parachute for backup,
So I guess Potter isn't the only one doing FreeBASE climbs anymore.

Maybe he can start leading clients up the tallest buildings? Thin the herd on Everest?
While I would enjoy being a part of the camera rigging for this stunt, it's just another method of getting the masses to stare into the glowing box for two hours of their lives.
The kids making money, good for him. He's also mainstream.

Ryan D, this alone is obvious proof no climbers proofread this Outside article before publishing:
"Many of the best free soloists, including Dan Osman, Derek Hersey, and Michael Reardon, have died in climbing accidents."
Dan died in a rope jump and Michael got swept out to sea by a rogue wave at the base of a climb. Neither death had anything to do with freesoloing. Yet no mention of Bachar.
Oh well, Alex is about to become an international star.

Because of safety concerns, the decision hasn’t been 100% confirmed, and Alex has been asked to wear a parachute for backup,
He would also need a LOT of training for the parachute idea to go smoothly.

Do you have a link to that?
Good call Werner, but it's tv and being photogenic is an issue for those dudes. Plus, Honnold has that "he did wut" thing of amazement going and a connection to Natgeo with the 1/2 dome climb.
Alain Roberts thread.

"This idea of doing spectacular stunts goes back to the age of the circus"
circus sounds about right
mortimer's attitude towards honnold and pushing potentially fatal stunts for money and publicity is a little scary.

I had thought Alain already climbed this thing as a publicity stunt.
He did, but it was a roped ascent, and not even a free climb to boot? Not sure what is going on in this vid:
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=663543n
Looks like he's just jugging lines in the rain.
I wonder if Honnold has consulted with the Frenchie at all about this.
