So it looks like I'm out of the climbing game for a few weeks, broke a hold on a boulder problem totally unexpected. Only fell about 12-15 feet but missed the mat and crushed my heel. Being young and stupid I thought it was fine and worked all day for the last week and a half. Went to see the doc today and he figures it's fractured. X-ray tomorrow will tell if hes right.

Anyone out there deal with this before? What is recovery time like? Am I f*#ked in the long run for hiking, etc.? Yes I know bouldering is lame and I'm gonna die.

At least my scrubbing arm is in great shape, good way to stay productive and related to climbing.

Been there man. Here's a link to me asking the same thing a little over a year and a half ago. Read it. As far as climbing goes I'm 100% now. Same with hiking. It'll heal(pun intended).

Been there.

Very important to know that there is little blood circ to that area. Do nothing but rest, when its right start using a tennis ball under your feet. You will do this from now on especially if you are crazy active. You will never boulder at the same level again(off the deck).

It doesn't matter it's all good.

Aloha and be well

I've fractured both my heels over the years (different times). Best I can recall is that it took me about 6 months to get back to almost normal.

Hang in there...the rocks have an amazing amount of patience...they can sit there for as long as you need them too and they won't complain at all.

I' will heal, but when you get to my age it will make you very good at predicting the weather.

Haven't heard the x-ray results yet. I doubt it's bad if it is fractured as the pain/swelling/bruising isn't too bad but I have a high tolerance. It just sucks, I'd rather have hurt an arm then at least I could still hike, from what I'm hearing the effects will last a long time.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm on crutches now and staying off it as much as possible. I cant miss much work so I don't know how that is going to play out.

Keep your foot above your heart. It makes a huge difference. I just posted my years update on ruppel's thread. Also, I am back to climbing at the same level as I was before my fall even though I am not as strong in the foot as I used to be. I won't boulder again because I just don't want to go through this again. But that doesn't mean you won't!

It's a sucky injury, but you will be back! pm me if you want some support/encouragement/or nutritional advice.

Came down hard off a boulder, onto my heel, before the days of "maxi pads". I was on crutches for months. Was damn painful as I recall.
