They bother me.

Stop telling me how the universe is beaming it's cosmic love on me.

I grow my own food when its the right season and live a simple life. I do right by others.

Stifle your preaching, some of us walk the walk and don't say a word about it.

Oh that is classic

I gag if I smell it now...I have to avoid the sections of the "natural food stores" where they have all the oils and candles etc....patchouli seems to just float over and grab me.....ick ick ick
And yet, yes, I am a work in progress from BITD hippiedom.

Hairy legged women tend to freak me a little. I once went on a blind date with a chick that was described to me as "natural".. I strongly advise being very aware of that term.. She sat down, her pants rode up a bit exposing her ankle,, i suppose,, under a sasquatch like layer of HAIR! CHECK PLEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I've lived what some would call a hippie lifestyle since I've been born.

Living a positive life, eating healthy, looking out for the environment, yeah.

I don't preach it or try to influence others into my way of thinking though.

Yep. It's the counter-productive lifestyle of 'takers' who feed off the productive class. They preach bullshit platitudes of 'freedom for all', while they suck off the gov't teet. They get high and come up with amazingly bullshit versions of how their plan for the world is AWESOME.

But they fail to use logic, they use emotion to guide them. A wise man uses logic first, and then checks it against his moral standards.

Morality though, that's a whole 'nuther thread.

Liberalism is self-destructive, and a logical mental disorder

"Aftershocks (1970–present)

Contemporary hippie at the Rainbow Gathering in Russia, 2005.
By the 1970s, the 1960s zeitgeist that had spawned hippie culture seemed to be on the wane.[72][73][74] The events at Altamont Free Concert[75] shocked many Americans,[76] including those who had strongly identified with hippie culture. Another shock came in the form of the Sharon Tate and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca murders committed in August 1969 by Charles Manson and his "family" of followers. Nevertheless, the turbulent political atmosphere that featured the bombing of Cambodia and shootings by National Guardsmen at Jackson State University and Kent State University still brought people together. These shootings inspired the May 1970 song by Quicksilver Messenger Service "What About Me?", where they sang, "You keep adding to my numbers as you shoot my people down", as well as Neil Young's "Ohio", recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Much of hippie style had been integrated into mainstream American society by the early 1970s.[77][78] Large rock concerts that originated with the 1967 KFRC Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival and Monterey Pop Festival and the 1968 Isle of Wight Festival became the norm, evolving into stadium rock in the process. The anti-war movement reached its peak at the 1971 May Day Protests as over 12,000 protesters were arrested in Washington DC. President Nixon himself actually ventured out of the White House and chatted with a group of the 'hippie' protesters. The draft was ended soon thereafter, in 1973. In the mid-1970s, with the end of the draft and the Vietnam War, a renewal of patriotic sentiment associated with the approach of the United States Bicentennial and the emergence of punk in London, Manchester, New York and Los Angeles, the mainstream media lost interest in the hippie counterculture. At the same time there was a revival of the Mod subculture, skinheads, teddy boys and the emergence of new youth cultures, like the goths (an arty offshoot of punk) and football casuals. Acid rock gave way to prog rock, heavy metal, disco, and punk rock.

Starting in the late 1960s, hippies began to come under attack by working-class skinheads.[79][80][81] Hippies were also vilified and sometimes attacked by punks, revivalist mods, greasers, football casuals, Teddy boys, rednecks and members of other youth subcultures of the 1970s and 1980s. The countercultural movement was also under covert assault by J. Edgar Hoover's infamous "Counter Intelligence Program" (COINTELPRO), but in some countries it was other youth groups that were a threat. Hippie ideals had a marked influence on anarcho-punk and some post-punk youth subcultures, especially during the Second Summer of Love.

Couple attending Snoqualmie Moondance Festival, Aug. 1993
Hippie communes, where members tried to live the ideals of the hippie movement continued to flourish. On the west coast, Oregon had quite a few.[82] Some faded away. Some are still around.

While many hippies made a long-term commitment to the lifestyle, some people argue that hippies "sold out" during the 1980s and became part of the materialist, consumer culture.[83][84] Although not as visible as it once was, hippie culture has never died out completely: hippies and neo-hippies can still be found on college campuses, on communes, and at gatherings and festivals. Many embrace the hippie values of peace, love, and community, and hippies may still be found in bohemian enclaves around the world.[22]

Towards the end of the 20th century, a trend of "cyber hippies" emerged, that embraced some of the qualities of the 1960s psychedelic counterculture.[85]"

Just like nearly every other classification of lifestyle.

Generalizing about "hippies" as zealots is one thing, but to hate them is another.Hippies have opened the door to a lot more "live free" aspects in life then any "other" civil group in our history.

This coming from someone who had their head busted up and thrown in jail for weed in the 70's.

Instead of hating,try thanking one.

Yes,most are outspoken. It is hard to walk a fence and hold back ,i did for years.Things change, you will see yourself, you may have to take a stand. It is human nature.Lines are drawn, people take sides, everybody steps over.Staying centered gets little accomplished.

Whats up with the dog pile? Makes me want to erase my post.

to me Blue was more like me.. a former drug addict that was into the whole free love kind of thing, but was probably never fully sold. Maybe he can tell more of his story.

But I still don't know what a hippie is. I lived on a commune for a short time. It was cool, but also too full of drama and too many people leaching on the system of the commune. The ones who were working it were cool, but at that time they were letting too many free loaders have a free ride. I heard that a few years later they got really strict. So that was funny to me.

And blue, don't get all defensive. People don't bag on you because you say you are conservative, or even that you say you love Jesus. In a way they do. But thats not really what its about. You often get very superior in your behavior. Even if others do that, its no excuse for you. And yes, none of us are perfect. But if thats true, then you can see why there isn't any point to getting defensive. The guys attacking you aren't perfect either.

And don't you forget that.. heh heh

Hey Wes, when are you done with that doctoral thesis so that we can all bow down to your royal highness the Doctor Wes.

Is there a Doctor in the house? Will you be playing doctor with your sweetie?

I never made it to the Doctor level. But I did get a certificate out of a cracker jack box naming me a Grand PooBah of something or another. Probably of Bullsh#t.

Jebus remember when you used to get drunk and know it all as well?
Same sh#t different agenda.

Jut saying

Do you understand what getting drunk means? Of course I don't remember! Ha!

Bluering consistently portrays himself as an ugly imbecile here, so I don't give a f*#k about his agenda whether I'm high, drunk, or sober. Maybe on ecstasy. I haven't tried that, maybe it's the key state of being to tolerating him.

Yep. It's the counter-productive lifestyle of 'takers' who feed off the productive class. They preach bullshit platitudes of 'freedom for all', while they suck off the gov't teet. They get high and come up with amazingly bullshit versions of how their plan for the world is AWESOME.

Yeah, I hate capitalists, too. Nice post, comrade.

Nah, I passed that one. Pretty sweet trips too, I think everyone should try it out under the right circumstances with the right people. Just walk away after a couple of good trips.

Can't help you there. I am what I am. I usually don't try to be personally disrespectful, but some have it coming. And I've heard from some that privately agree with my thoughts, but don't want group-beating from ST, so they remain silent.

That's fine. We all have different ideals and personalities. Free expression of ideas is welcome amongst Hippies still, right?
