They bother me.

Stop telling me how the universe is beaming it's cosmic love on me.

I grow my own food when its the right season and live a simple life. I do right by others.

Stifle your preaching, some of us walk the walk and don't say a word about it.

Oh that is classic

I gag if I smell it now...I have to avoid the sections of the "natural food stores" where they have all the oils and candles etc....patchouli seems to just float over and grab me.....ick ick ick
And yet, yes, I am a work in progress from BITD hippiedom.

Don't get me wrong, I've lived what some would call a hippie lifestyle since I've been born.

Living a positive life, eating healthy, looking out for the environment, yeah.

I don't preach it or try to influence others into my way of thinking though.

Yep. It's the counter-productive lifestyle of 'takers' who feed off the productive class. They preach bullshit platitudes of 'freedom for all', while they suck off the gov't teet. They get high and come up with amazingly bullshit versions of how their plan for the world is AWESOME.

But they fail to use logic, they use emotion to guide them. A wise man uses logic first, and then checks it against his moral standards.

Morality though, that's a whole 'nuther thread.

Liberalism is self-destructive, and a logical mental disorder

No such thing as hippies anymore sadly, I'd prefer them to these goddamn hip-sters we have now and all their hypocrisies. Wearing leather shoes & claiming vegan and the such. What the heck is a hippie? Bluering, you seem to classify anyone who didn't work and leached off the system as a hippie, but I classify that person as a bum. I knew many people I would call a hippie who started businesses and did great.

So what the heck is a hippie?

Brandon seems to say that they are preachy..

to me some were adamant about their lifestyles and were preachy. But most weren't.
Just like nearly every other classification of lifestyle.

Me.. I was a drug addict/square/wannabe hippie/ young man who wanted and got some of that "free love" but also made pretty good money and always paid my own way and had long hair.

Prototype of a male hippie. Considered a beatnik, but was hip (underwent some minor changes after Timothy Leary made his contribution). The hippie was just another aside along the great divide of humanity.

Brandon, was it something i said?
Generalizing about "hippies" as zealots is one thing, but to hate them is another.Hippies have opened the door to a lot more "live free" aspects in life then any "other" civil group in our history.

This coming from someone who had their head busted up and thrown in jail for weed in the 70's.

Instead of hating,try thanking one.

Yes,most are outspoken. It is hard to walk a fence and hold back ,i did for years.Things change, you will see yourself, you may have to take a stand. It is human nature.Lines are drawn, people take sides, everybody steps over.Staying centered gets little accomplished.

Thank a hippie

Whats up with the dog pile? Makes me want to erase my post.

to me Blue was more like me.. a former drug addict that was into the whole free love kind of thing, but was probably never fully sold. Maybe he can tell more of his story.

But I still don't know what a hippie is. I lived on a commune for a short time. It was cool, but also too full of drama and too many people leaching on the system of the commune. The ones who were working it were cool, but at that time they were letting too many free loaders have a free ride. I heard that a few years later they got really strict. So that was funny to me.

And blue, don't get all defensive. People don't bag on you because you say you are conservative, or even that you say you love Jesus. In a way they do. But thats not really what its about. You often get very superior in your behavior. Even if others do that, its no excuse for you. And yes, none of us are perfect. But if thats true, then you can see why there isn't any point to getting defensive. The guys attacking you aren't perfect either.
