Leave the toilet seat up before you go get a beer at Hooters.
And, congrats. Sometimes a divorce is simply the best decision to make. My folks finalized their divorce last year after thirty something years of marriage. It was a good thing.

Spend at least $500 on a present for your ex. Tell her it's your first step in admitting that you were solely responsible for the breakup and that you only wish that you had been a better husband.

Go buy a power tool or a cam. Something that you would always enjoy and... Buy something that would have annoyed your exwife... Plus, go have a bro night out. It could be moutaineering, shooting guns, blowing something up, drinking while attending a game, or... Heck, go to strip club if it floats your boat. Or even better, go out with a woman that is 100% better than your ex. Enjoy yourself man, life is short.

Unsure how to respond in part because of the ambiguity of the post. Is it Happy Anniversary???? Or just anniversary. You don't say you are happy and the triple ??? punctuation suggest maybe not. I don't find any reason to be happy about the anniversary of my divorce. Personally, I need to forgive myself - instead of being mad at MYSELF - for the decision to marry the female in question in the first place. Jim Donini counseled me to forgive myself with the observation we all make decisions in life with the information we have at the time. In fact, we make the best decisions we could possibly make at the time. Regret, self-recrimination over the decision is monday morning quarterbacking yourself. Instead, realize you had your reasons for every decision you ever made. Let it go; you made a few mistakes; you hit a few home run. F*#king up is the price of living. Let it go. Be nice to yourself; forgive yourself for being an idiot. That too is the price of living. And it beats the alternative - never living.

Look forward!!!
After I got divorced I made a list of all of the things I had wanted to do, but for one reason or another, the marriage had gotten in the way (okay, I let the marriage get in the way -- lesson learned!).
Then I started knocking them out. I was (and still am, in this regard) a very happy camper. Made sure the next time around I married someone that didn't fence me in (it took a LOT of persuasion on his end -- lol). That "NO FENCE" was and is part of the original stipulation. :D
So have at it! Go forth and live damn happily!!!!!

Because it was a light hearted poke at life's ups and downs. It wasn't a poor me thing. So why not?
We did a good job of raising great kids. We moved apart and on. If anything it was my affirmation that you can pull through adversity and look forward.

Amen Philo... I think that's the best idea ever and the one you are already applying. Personally if Bill and I divorced... I would get rid of all the stuff and live in a house with minimal stuff... Since Bill is a pack rat on the verge of hoarding... It will be a nice break from our present collection. Then again since we are not getting a divorce... I am trying to learn how to handle this in a good way.

hey there say, philo....
i'd say:
there is reasons, beyond us, why our trail changes... and even more so, if it changes after what we THOUGHT was the long-haul 'for always' trail...
so thus:
do something that makes the new you trail, what it is appearing to be, and do something that helps enhance this new growth, etc... something that will
be part of its new solid foundation, that you can one day look back on, as a great memory marker...
say--as i am AFTER THE FACT now:
hope you did so... if now, you STILL can... anniversaries are really good for the whole year, :)
