Let's encourage CMac to proceed with his idea of setting up an ongoing emergency fund clearing house.

you don't need a regular bank account for Paypal. You can lik it to a prepaid card that you buy at safeway, City MArket, Kings Soopers, etc or in this case Von's.

Don't ask me how I know this but I do!

hey there say, locker...

oh my... i'd have been on the street long ago, without the various helps i have had, so i sure want to help too...

i never have extras, except at few times, as of recent i even made some money on one bit of artwork, so, i can surly dry to do more...

say, would a box full of dreamcatcher help, perhaps sooze has an office
area for her rentals? and can hang them all up there???

for folks to see?

i can also do some art to auction, that is slower, unless i make a
few 'sketch and paints'... :)

raising funds for those in the climber-groups is like
a community thing 'for the neighborhood' etc...

so all folks need is to KNOW about where help is needed,
and then we can try...

god bless... will be praying for blitzo...
i wish someone could see and buy his photos...
my twin buddies get lucky at times and folks BUY their photos for
magazines, etc...

every little bit helps...
course, it took them YEARS to find folks that would, :(
hard to do...

It's definitely not a troll.

Alright, so I wasn't going to bring this up (but if it's going to be in the open...)

My best guess on his car is that the clutch fork is broken (thought it was clutch MC or slave, but after monkeying under the hood a bit, appears to be the clutch fork to me, hydraulic system seems basically fine). His car has like 300k on it anyway, so not really worth fixing unless someone has a tranny jack and experience disassembling manual trans housing etc (it also has radiator issue, tires are bald, etc).

He has made a miraculous recovery from diagnosis to present. Like the brother had one foot in the grave, could barely get up and walk 50', and now is MUCH better, able to bicycle to town for groceries, etc. But he's still broke. Has food covered, housing is covered.

Now here's an idea:

I just bought a new (used) car. My old car is in pretty good shape aside from the trans (135k, tires practically new, everything works, trans slips when very cold but otherwise drives normally). I've thought of just leaving the old car out there for his use, but it will require him to carry liability ins, and eventually a tranny rebuild (AX4N model Ford trans).

I am currently providing housing, electricity and water. I am willing to also provide the vehicle IF there is funding for registration, insurance, etc. I'm looking at a 20% paycut at work (thanks, sequester!), so that's about the limits of what I can do at present.

Let's see where this goes, I guess.

It is a great thought Locker and folks on this site can help set it up.
But please don't be hatin' on the other fund raisers. Even if you have a job you can't really work when you are busted up. Without the compassion and generosity of the ST clan I would have never made it. In fact I would have likely ended up paralyzed or dead by being forced to work without the life saving surgery. When I finally got out of my cervical collar after 6+ months of not being able to work I had all of 0.17 cents to my name and naught but fumes in my gas tank. Desperation led me to work before I should have. I had to beg folks like Gary Neptune to let me do the work they needed. I have always intended to pay everyone back and twice had accumulated enough funds to do so last year only to have my work rig die and require thousands of dollars to repair. I still intend to repay my benefactors ASAP.

What if the car expenses that Will mentioned could be tallied/estemated and that could be a preliminary goal to work toward.I can see Blitzo as a Sable kind of guy.

I asked him last August in Vedauwoo if he'd lost weight and he said he'd gone from about 180 to 147. So I wasn't entirely surprised last fall to hear what the cause was.

I wonder if someone could act as an agent/Pimp for his amazing and historic photo collection?

OK here are 12 philo 'toons for your fundraising pleasure.
Same deal as the Big Mike Fundraiser.

#1; Hoh Man.

#2; Generic Crap Bivy.

#3; What do you mean no more rope?

#4; Sh#t and Pitch.

#5; Tuna Can.

#6; Say What.

#7; Another fine mess.

#8; Philbert's dilema.

#9; Hueco Thanx.

#10; Cajun Style.

#11; Indecent Exposure.

#12; Sleep Tight.

After I said I would sell the originals I remembered that most all of them are drawn on the backs of letters I wrote. Fortunately I was able to re-gather them years ago which is how they ended up in Robbie's Black Canyon Guide book.
So I am proposing to sign a limited number of prints for the fundraiser.
I know you all can just take the unsigned ones for free right off the inturdnet, but imagine if you were the one injured and in need. What do you say to a nominal fee of $10 each or three for $25 for signed 'toons.

When you make a donation to someone via paypal, you can designate it as a gift.
If it's less than $14,000 in a year, no one needs to be concerned about any tax implications.

So many other fundriasers going on...

Why not one for BLITZO???...

I think it's a fine idea. When I heard of the situation in the fall, I was told it was to be kept "quiet". So that may have been part of the "why". If it's all transparent now, and Blitzo gives a thumbs up, then of course, the support efforts should become more wide spread...

My brother in law has been battling multiple myoloma since a few months after 9-11 and thinks they are related (he lives in lower Manhattan).

I don't think I've even met Blitzo but put me down for a couple of double sawbucks (though perhaps "Blizfest" might be a misleading name,... then again, not).

Jesus I wish I could help.

Now, this is not a troll, but I need money too, seriously, what does a healthy (I hope) kidney go for? Jennie says "don't be stupid", but I do not want us to be evicted into the (it's snowing now, in March, in Ireland, sort of weird) cold.

I would love to help Blitzo, and I think you Supertopians know that I would if I could.

Is there a website where one can (sell/organize) one's organs? I am phucking serious, a lunatic perhaps, as someday I may need two kidneys if one fails, but...

John, the public health nurse is going to see if he can get us a council flat, but there is a two-year waiting list. I was doing so well (financially) until Jen's medical condition.

And any accommodation must be safe and secure for Jennie (first they call it absconding, then wandering, but apparently the term is now "walking"). And we will not leave Boots behind, so a place that will take cats.

I will, if I have to, sell a kidney.

The best I can do for Blitzo is send positive vibes.

Blitzo, stick in there. If I can muster up some funds, I will send them to you via pay pal or whatever. We all have to stick together.

Cancer sucks. I lost my closest brother, Mac, the winemaker, last May 18 (lung/liver cancer), and my sister Mary (2011) to breast cancer.

But dementia sucks too. (I lost my mother to Alzheimer's, and three of her sisters too.)

EDIT

I just won €250 (wish it was €250,000, that would get me out of a bind) on the Daily Millions. Tell me the Pay Pal details for Blitzo, and I'll donate €50. That's the best I can do. But I will do it.

Another EDIT

To Patrick Compton and supporters of the three who messed up in Peru. They, by whatever means or people, asked for funds to continue their journey, or get dental work (sounds fishy, four teeth broken and six implants, my late mom was a dentist, four teeth broken equals four implants, at best, IMO. Okay perhaps there was periphereal damage to other teeth). Or an airplane ticket home, after messing up. Chancers. Fecking chancers.

Pat, BVB, Largo, Blitzo... these and others are genuine cases, are the ones who deserve help, not some effing idiots with corporate sponsorship (ie van) and loving relatives back in the USA.

These three can raise $25,000 plus through their stupidity. Sick. While more meaningful people need better help. These three are as#@&%es compared to those on the Taco Stand who really need help.

I was on the verge of deleting my previous post, as it almost seemed self-serving.

But Jim kicked in about the 'details'. Listen, I think that I can muster up €50, not really but I will, because, because, I can identify. Damn it, if I could just sell one of my novels or win the lottery, then the people on the forum who really need help...

Not some Jackson Hole chancers.

I guess I have a bit of a problem with that issue. Maybe I should look in the mirror.

EDIT

Wouldn't it be intersting if the Peruvian Three would contribute to Blitzo and others. Fat chance. But it would be great PR on their part.

Another EDIT

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100913072057AAT3R6E

I guess selling a kidney is not a good idea, but desperation sometimes makes people not think what is the intelligent course of action. I will have to just work harder from home, if I have one.

All is not lost. I think that Blitzo, BVB, Pat and others are in (hopefully not) worse positions than I am. Desperation can lead to stupid decisions.

Well, this was bad enough news to get the "lurker" out of hiding!

I really think we should try to set up a Spring Fundraiser in Josh! We should check with Todd to see whether he'd be willing to make a loan of his facilities. I'm somewhat strapped for cash, but could donate some serious climbing gear to be sold/auctioned off. That, in addition to a modest contribution of cash. If the n00b needs help big time, this is one good reason to break my self-imposed silence.

Sewellymon just touched on that idea in an early post to this thread, but let's take it and run with it.

My gear contribution will be a brand new, in the factory plastic wrap, Mammut 10mm x 60 meter Everdry rope.

It's not as bad as it seems! I have medical coverage. I have more food than I can eat! I have work. All my organ functions are normal!
Getting my car fixed would be great! A Medical Marijuana card and some beer would be nice.
If I get over $900.00 a month, I lose my medical coverage, so I'm not sure how beneficial a fundraiser would be!
