Ok sports fans, here is the info if you wish to donate something to Clark Jacobs. There is an added benefit, The Friends Of Josh is going to feature a new section on their website specifically for fundraising for climbers in need. Clark is going to be their first.

While you're there, if you are feeling extra generous The Friends Of Josh can always use a shot in the arm as well. It's your call.

Clark is in good spirits and spent the afternoon on my job site with us on Friday.

He has a tough road ahead of him. Let's pull together and help him out.

Hey Robert,

Not sure if you're running the donation site, but for some reason it says I can not donate at this time.

Sorry, this event is not authorized for booking at this time.

Any ideas?

Robert - This is all so great!

Hate to bother you about a small thing, but I would like to share the link to my Facebook site and other pages, but when I click the link to the DIRECT post about Clark, it fails to load properly.

The problem with having the general URL for FOJT is that Clark's post will bump down as new posts come up, which will make it difficult for people to navigate to as time goes on.

Maybe it is just my browser doing this. Anyone else?

I am sure FOJT has a lot to manage besides this task, but if they can correct whatever is causing the glitch, it would be very helpful in maximizing visibility for the cause.

Clark is a long time local climber/guide and all around good man. He's been battling cancer. He was in remission for quite a spell, then it came back with a vengeance.

The goal here is to get him a little cash to help with living expenses since he will be unable to work.

I know what this is like because my wife went through cancer and she was bed ridden and I had to take care of her. It made working nearly impossible. We were broke beyond words.

My apologies for the bumpy start. These things sometimes take a bit to shake out.

I'm going to be posting to other climbing sites as well.

I appreciate the compliments, but the real appreciation should be directed at the folks at FOJT for their efforts for making this possible. All's I did was make arrangements.

Clark's next batch of chemo start's this Wednesday and ends on Friday. I just dropped off a portable heater for him to help with the late night chills. It's a temporary loaner for the week since it's a mutual friends and he needs it back, but it's a start.

Thanks again to everyone for the efforts. If someone wants to set up a spring fundraising party, go for broke!

Please pass the word. It's a very worthy cause!!!!!

Bump for The Man...

We all have a lot to learn from this guy. He shows us happiness and grace in the face of real challenges. Barbara and I were out visiting with him a couple weeks ago, and like HappieGirl says, he has an amazing and totally positive attitude.

A few weeks ago a fellow at the pit named Max and Clark and I went up and did Sail Away and some of those face climbs near there on Wailing Wall. It was a great day.

You can send checks directly to Clark, and the mailing address is listed on the FOJT page.

Bump for Clark. Talked to him last evening for a short bit and it's like he "skoffs at danger" - but, have also seen him a few days after the first chemo, and know that when it is tough for him, it is tough. Even so - when feeling exhausted, he is just slower with the jokes and spray about SAR stories from BITD - hahah.

Just got off the phone with Clark. He just did two days of chemo, and is going back down this afternoon for some other kind of s shot, and might need a transfusion as his red cells are low.

As always he is upbeat and cheerful. An amazing guy.

Here's Clark goofing around with Alois Smrz at the Idyllwild Historical Center in November 2009. Seems like yesterday.

I was invited by a local Joshua Tree friend to have dinner at his house, as was Clark. This was last Friday evening - after two days of chemo, driving to/from both days, and another run to the hospital for the "day after" shot, you'd think the guy would be too tired to socialize.

Not Clark! He was gracious and conversational the whole time, and had that positive mental attitude so many of us have been inspired by.

I spoke with the park service and all the reserved sites large enough to handle something like this are booked well into the latter half of May. Plus there is also the parking issue.

My original suggestion was not the best idea.

I vote the lake bed.

Saw Clark at the Park Rock cafe yesterday. He is not happy that his hair doesn't seem to share his can-do attitude and is thin, thin, thinning, but even then he says it with a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye. Says he is feeling a little tired, which of course is normal.

The big news was that his phone went kaput and he bought a new one - and has upgraded to an iphone. Seems the Taco isn't optimized for mobile though - he says he has to scroll like crazy to see threads anyway.

I ran into Clark the other day - in between two days doing guiding work, he had been down to the hospital spending 6 hours getting another blood transfusion.

It seems those chemo sessions kick the hell out of his blood cells. This is the second transfusion since he started this round of chemo.

Nonetheless, he was spry and upbeat, talking with enthusiasm as usual. It is amazing how that cancer can jabbing at him and he just scoffs in the face of it and keeps going.

Buy one for $250 and the proceeds will go directly to Clark. I will cover the shipping costs in North America. Your choice of the remaining numbers available.

The chemo is horrible. I've been through this with my wife. First the white cells drop, then the red. I had oh so much fun giving her daily injections of Nupegen to boost the white blood cells. Since they stimulate the bone marrow, it causes very deep bone pain in the hips, legs, and shoulders.

A positive attitude is what get's people through this battle. Clark has what it takes!

hey there say, all...

not sure who would be the one to USE this?
or HOW you could use it?

raffle at a get-together if you have one, auction it here etc, or what???
OR--some one can send the money, whatever we set as best-price, to
clark, and then i can just mail this to the one that wants it,
after we know he has the money... :)

*i can not mail it 'til may, though, when i get my funds for the month...

AND IT IS ALMOST DONE:
yep, just touch-ups, 'til done...
it is oil, canvas, 16 by 20
AND AM JUST 'feeling this out' if this will do any good for clark...

however, :(

sadly, it IS flawed--i had bad brushes (usual for me, sorry):
and on one of the coatings, one eve, the brush left many hairs
on parts of it, mainly in side-areas, and, i saw them too
late to fix and get them off.. :(

not many are on the face, you will have to go by our gut-feelings,
if you like it, etc...

HAT AND SHIRT ARE NOT-NOT DONE YET!!!

just 'bump' it a bit, and we will see how it goes...

This is "chemo week" for Clark - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Spoke with him by phone a few days ago. He had to go in for some session on Tuesday as well, but I cannot recall what that was for.

This is round 4 for him, and if the previous rounds are any indication, he will probably be pretty wiped out by it.

Edit: I figured I may as well give him a call, so just did that. As usual, the guy is positive and minimized the impact. He said "Yeah, I'll probably be really tired for about a week." Still he did say that at times there are dark moments, but he just tries to keep his chin up. An impressive attitude and resolve, he has.

separate auctions or something??? not sure yet...

trouble is... the brushes were bad, i only have a few good ones, and those are large, and i used a smaller new brush on this, and it is now
a 'not perfect quality painting' :(

(just pretend, if you are UP really close, that clark was holding a cat, or something) ;))

but--if you really enjoy helping clark, by art work, and would love
the painting--from about a foot away--it CAN be yours...

let's see if it can bring him something nice... to highest
bidder, etc...

EDIT:
I JUST POSTED ANOTHER THREAD FOR THE BIDDING... :)
SEE THE LINK, JUST BELOW IN NEW POST

I am looking of a Travel Trailer to buy or barrow this summer for Clark to live in Idyllwild.
We have a place to put it.
Anybody know of anything?
Thanks Karen

What's going on with Clark right now? I heard he's in Colorado, and has taken a bad turn recently, compounded by Lucas's death. Anybody been in touch with him in the last few days?

Clark is recuperating in Joshua Tree after a trip to Teluride with his friend Kojack to visit Steve Sutton got cut short because he came down with pneumonia and had to be hospitalized.

He will resume chemo as soon as he is well enough to do so.
He is also very upset about Lucas.
He is currently staying in a trailer Wally Barker is letting him use in Josh.
Very shortly it will be too hot to stay in a trailer in Josh.
He really needs a place to stay where he does not have to break down camp every day.
He has a place he can keep the trailer parked in Idyllwild.

It would be great if someone that has a trailer they are not using for a few months would let him use it.
If not I will buy one but I would love to have some help with that if people are willing to.
Thanks Karen

I talked with Clark the other day. He's hiking up to the rocks and doing some occasional climbs. His car is weak and he's looking for a van or something easier to camp in.

Chemo is over for now, a bone marrow test of some sort early in September (I think he said the 9th) will determine whether the cancer is in remission or else there will be more chemo.

He has every confidence in his doctors and hospital.

What a guy!

So all the fathers in Idyllwild are keeping a close eye on their daughters, I hope.
