Having just done the spire twice this fall, that really shivers me timbers...what a mindf*#k. I tried to walk a high line once, about 50 feet tall over a 50foot gap. three steps and I was gone. headfirst swan-dive for the ground, lucky I was tethered, but my tether caught a carabiener on my harness as I fell and clipped itself into a gear loop. This all happened so fast I had no idea. I felt my body slow, then I felt something break and I started falling again...almost sh#t myself...but then I stopped as the teather came tight on the main attachment. very scary for a moment.

Was the videographer sailing on a tall ship in rough seas while capturing the video?

Yeah it was super windy, which made it even more sketch. It was a tiny little handheld, sorry for the poor quality.

Not that I'm going to be trying something like that anytime soon, but the encouraging commentary, while I'm sure well-meant, would be a huge distraction to me. But maybe when you're hanging it all out like that, you don't really notice anything else.
I'm sure the guy was not thinking about paying bills or the like at the time!

Whoa, wild.
Hey saltandgranite, YouTube has this amazing new'ish feature where their software will steady a jumpy video like that. If you uploaded that vid, you can do it - got to click around for the option. It'll crop small percentages off of each frame, and the end result is that it will look like it was filmed on a floating pillow. Your film isn't all that bumpy, really, looking at it.

I saw a video of Mich free soloing a 5.13 somewhere over in Europe.
Here's a pic I took of Faith Dickey soloing my line last winter...
...and Skandy freesoloco on the Mexican Caulk Gun.
