Rookies. Try setting your story in some 3rd world country, and add gory pics of how the natives beat you up.

VerticalBound - I know your situation well, although I made my own whereas you had your money stolen.

I left upstate New York right a day or two after Election Day(early November) and by the time I hit Arkansas, I was down to a dribble of cash and a full tank of gas. Not quite enough to get the rest of the way to Joshua Tree....

I knew I was going to be hunkering in and waiting, as I made sales online(I have some websites from which I do business). In the worst case scenario, I just would have to wait until the beginning of December when I get my trust fund payment(not really a trust fund, but it is a small amount of passive income generated monthly).

I was not interested in getting too far west in this scenario, because the twons are much further apart, and I knew that since I was going to be stalled in some towns, I had to be able to move on if a policeman informed me of vagrancy laws.... I made sure I had enough money to keep the gas tank filled, and spend many - many - hours in the library working online, and also of course hanging out with my dog in parks and such.

Spent 2-3 days in *very small* towns before getting to Little Rock, AR, where I holed up in Chanel Valley(ritzy) for a good 10 days. Eeps! But, there was a state park 5 miles from the Walmart, and a great library 5 miles the other way.

Still, it did get tiring....

Then I made some sales, and headed onward, but ONLY really enough to get to Hot Springs, AR, where I spent another 4 days.

I actually didn't expect to have to wait for the monthly cash flow to come, but that was what happened.... I arrived in JT on December 5th, a full month after leaving NY. Now I AM a slow-going driver, and would have normally taken 10 days for the trip, but 30 was stretching it...

Fridy will be here soon, so don't worry too much. I am sorry you got ripped off and are struggling, but hope you are able to be enjoying some things along the way which you'd otherwise have wizzed right past without noticing.

Geez, I thought it pretty naive to solicit help for Lance Armstrong or Los Angeles.
Both are pretty much beyond the Pale.
