Midtown.Midpines.Midway.Along the Merced Canyon.See ya, Doc!

Really, I've never owned other than an Instamatic in the beginning, and a cute little pocket Rollei 35 that I've lost, ever. My new EOS is the Wiz.

Switching seats in order to satisfy the lens' hunger was authorized by Robert. Front seat..left side...right side...left side...front seat. He was very encouraging.

I appreciated the height from which these shots were taken. I used the Sports setting on the Canon. It is fast, bulbous, and, like Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, takes direction well. At bus speeds like going down the Bear Creek Grade to Briceburg, the setting worked very nicely. I worked it like a fool. I got the one decent mossy shot and a few that show the grade on the descent. There is a lack of blur, but just enough to soften the image with no noticable loss of definition. I used the Windows Photo Gallery "fix" to crop and enhance the contrast and brightness to match what I consider appropriate to the overall tenor of the day's theme, which was FLUX.

Everybody needs change.

The river's risin', the moon's chillin', but Bobbo's still Dylan, albeit touring in Europe, not California. Or even NOrth AMerican.

West to the East. Sometime soon.

A footloose climer with a satisfied mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There’s a woman on belay and she’s killing 5.9
Got tanned skin, got assassin’s eyes
I’m looking up into the sapphire-tinted skies
I’m well dressed, waiting on the last train

Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose
Any minute now I’m expecting all hell to break loose

People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

This route ain’t doing me any good
I’m on the wrong crag, I should be in Yosemite-hood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something mood
Gonna take jamming lessons, do the dirtbag rag
Ain’t no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag
Only a n00b in here would think he’s got anything to prove

Lot of snowmelt under the bridge, lot of other stuff too
Don’t get up gentlemen, I’m only passing through

Climbers are crazy and wides are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

I’ve been walking forty miles of chossy road
If the Roper's is right, I'd better hit the road
I’ve been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
My poor body can only stand so much
You can’t win with a rope-burned hand

Feel like falling in love with the first partner I meet
Putting her in a swami belt and La Sportivas on her feet

Camp 4 people are crazy and times are strange
I’m in with the rangers, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

I hurt easy, I just don’t show it
You can hurt step on your rope and not even know it
The next sixty meters could be like an eternity
Gonna start low down, gonna fly high
All the beta in the world adds up to one big lie
I’m in love with a woman who don’t even appeal to me (tough to paraphrase)

Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy, they jumped in the lake
I’m not that eager to make a mistake

Climbing is crazy and caving is strange
I’m a trad climber, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

Paraphrased from Things Have Changed by BD.

Nothing essential has changed about Yosemite, basically. As you can see. It still has the Lodge. It still has a bus. The Falls. All the rest. It is at it's greatest and best WHEN YOU ARE THERE!!!

Camp 4 is a lousy hang.--Colorado Donini

Camp 4 sucks, but it sucks in a good way.--Utah Donini

Camp 4 wasn't the best, but it was a place to park the car.--Nevada Donine

Wawons's fourteen times better, depending on where you hang, than Camp 4.--California Donini's reticent praise of Yosemite's legend (he's right, though)
forgive the interruption, it's late and it's nearly Friday. I am breaking in a new climbing partner...shhh...
