On the return from Showcase Spire, Mike. Both of us thrilled to have beat the long odds of our combined ignorance, starting with thinking the lifts would start at 8:30 am.

Dave not nearly as happy on the 'approach.'

This is from a sad series of photos I took a couple weeks ago. The poor calf did not survive the river crossing. I wanted to to help it up the bank but momma would have attacked me if I got anywhere near her baby.

Every time the calf made it onto the bank it would tumble back into the frigid water. It was heart-wrenching to watch as the little calf got colder and weaker. Eventually it got too weak and floated downstream sinking beneath the waves. :-(

That's pretty sad. Here's one I photographed a couple years ago that lived a little longer. Hopefully it's still doing well and hasn't been shot.

Chewybacca, would it have been possible to get to the calf after it went downstream from the mother and get it out while it was away from her? I suppose the water was too big. It's hard to witness events like that!

Nice moose McHale. I love it when their antlers are in velvet.

Yeah the water downstream was fast moving and very cold. And the banks are filled with dense brush so moving along the shore was a slow process.

I also find myself debating the ethical issues of interfering with wildlife. As a compassionate human I want to help, but as an observer of wildlife I think I should let nature take its course. These conflicting ideas often do battle in my brain, neither side has won yet.

Jefe, that is an amazing photo of you and your siblings. I hope you and Jim were singing an Olivia Newton song to Bets. ~smiles

Safe travels today. Kisses to Betsy, Kitt and Donnie.
