On Tuesday January 15 Kevin Daniels,Trevor Anthes, and Kurt Wedberg climbed the Widow’s Tears in Yosemite Valley, the longest continuous ice climb in the contiguous 48 states.

The climb looks amazing. Apparently there's more to Yosemite than just rocks.

I borrowed 5 feet of barb wire. I should be able to front step with my new crampons.

Here's a couple of photos of the viewfinder of my video camera.

Sweet! Dave dave dave jealousy is unbecoming. All of the mags are desperate for this stuff and monitor all the sites and blogs. Especially a 7 Summiteeer and 3 time Everest Summiteer form the North and the South Routes like Kurt Wedberg. Try to remember you can NEVER MAKE Yourself LOOK GOOD by trying to make someone else look BAD. Simply unbecoming. And of all the people in mountaineering I have met, Kurt is the MOST HUMBLE. Also, didn't notice a photo of him in the article either? By the by, is there a list somewhere of the alleged 3 previous climbs that would have given anyone notice...I thought by rare the ice only forms infrequently and not every year. Just a thought bro. Silence can be golden.

I suspect this has fallen apart with the recent temps since late last week.

Im scared of heights so I tend gravitate to big mountains over 17K but have met Kurt. I have observed some of the biggest names in mountaineering approach him for his opinion and request for his help. I'm a retired law enforcement SAWAT type of fellow not prone to your type of animus and negativity. Normally we'd just thump a first class butt head like you and escort you down to the county jail. It's clear that you have a poor self image and the fact that you responded to my post means you have the little man syndrone going on. I thought you California types were open about alternative life styling...with the man love thing but your prelidiction to name calling and insults is so telling. My bet is you soke to much weed and have few friends. Over...

It's well past my bedtime but I was hoping Dave would defend his poor self image or little man syndrone before I pass out from all his blond California ambition. A little verbal thumping appears to go a long way with you juvenile types. What a conundrum you must live given the lack of matriarchal attention as a child, still acting like one. Please ponder your next post as I want it to be worthy of consideration. Over

Hey Tater WTF? You show up here nameless with a fictitious name and your first post is criticizing a long time member with a real name for calling out Kurt on his glorious chest pounding and bring it back into reality. Do a little research you will know who dave is, his intentions and how real he is you nameless fuk!

These guys did a killer route in good style. They should report on their ascent but "Rare" it was not. Did the mags track down Kurt looking for the story? I don't know all dave did was call it like it was.

Tater typically cops are the ones with the with ego problems. I am betting you’re the guy that got beat up on the playground for being a weenie, and that’s why you like to
Normally we'd just thump a first class butt head like you and escort you down to the county jail.
Does this kinda make you feel a little better about your history on the playground?

Why don’t you take a look at the history of dave contributions here at Supertopo and then take a look at yours and tell me who the fuktard really is. Nice first post Kook!

well whatayouknow other guys climbed the tears besides Kevin Daniels and friends. you wouldnt know that cuz if you read rock and ice .com they have only their ascent mentioned-sprayed up all over the main page as a rare ascent without mentioning any of the four previous ascents.
pretty rude if ya ask me cuz those guys wouldnt even of been up there if the reports werent all over the internet for days.

Reports?

More like "Spray."

But then again, it's "reports" when your ST clique buds post em up. But rude "Spray" when outsiders do the same.

In the end, does it really matter. Really?

It's just another frkn climb. That is all it is.

I think it is so cool that so many parties got to do this route this year. Big pat on the back. What more needs to be said? Get to the top, go home and rest and enjoy life that much more. There really is no need to belittle others efforts, it detracts from us all.

Either way, it doesn't sound good. So this is because someone didn't get the recognition they wanted or worse someone thinks another person didn't get what they think they should have? I don't get it either way. I'll go sit in the car now.

the longest continuous ice climb in the contiguous 48 states

Is this true?

No Sierra gully ice forms up continously enough to beat Widows for length, much less something in the Cascades or the Rockies?

When the climbs gets done 4 times in week, does that still make it a "rare ascent?"

The climb was done by less than 20 parties ever? I would call it rare. 4-5 strong teams climbed it this winter. That is not THAT many.

Dave, I do not know Kurt and am not trying to defend him but I do not see a reason to get so offended by the article. They might not had much space to write much. Seems like the article itself is very brief and does not even mention much about their climb. Giving recognition to everyone who provided beta would probably not make it into such brief article.

It is true however, if the beta photos were not posted on line not as many people would know to monitor temps and hit it during the short cold snap. It was really nice to have pictures and live reports about climbs in action. Those guys do deserve a thanks!

Is this true?
No munge. 300M is not the longest ice climb in lower 48.

Ran in to a couple of guys on Sunday. They had a good day at Reeds and said they were a little tired or they would have got after a little more climbing. After talking a little bit, they said they had done Widows Tears the day before (Saturday the 19th). They said the first 2 pitches had fallen off and it was a little scary. After that it was great. One guy was from New Mexico and the other guy was from Germany(living in Santa Barbara). They were only there for 2 days and left. Didn't seem like the type of guys to talk it up much and didn't think it was that big of a deal. Just thought I would give some out of towners some props they deserved. Not every body reports the climbs they do. They seemed to just have enjoyed it and left it at that, as it should be more often than not - Eric Gabel

LOL. You'd be writing it up too.

Just because some climbers come off as "unassuming" it doesn't mean they don't have sponsorship or a blog. Still proud as sh#t. What six ascents this year? The longest ice climb in the US? Haters gonna sit on the couch and hate. Climbers gonna go out and climb. Best part is they still have time to write about it. lol

4 pitches of ice....this shizzle happens every day in Canadian Rockies.
Sorry I know it's 'rare' for Yosemite.
The mag that reported it could easily strung more honest words together in a short amount of text space, however, would lose the gripping headline of how Rare it is.
