Franklin D. Roosevelt Speeches
Message to Congress on the Concentration of Economic Power
Franklin D. Roosevelt
April 29, 1938
To the Congress of the United States:
Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people.
The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism -- ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.
The second truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe, if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way as to sustain an acceptable standard of living. . . .

What we have here is fascism to some, but it's lobbyism, really, even though that term isn't appreciated or accepted.
Get your foot in the door, twist his arm, bend his ear, take him by the hand, and show the Senator how your company's interests or agenda is in line with his own and his state's best interests.

Interesting solution to offset the growth and strength of private industry was to grow government so big that it overpowers all else and makes the US look like a different country?
"I accuse the present Administration of being the greatest spending Administration in peacetime in all American history - one which piled bureau on bureau, commission on commission, and has failed to anticipate the dire needs or reduced earning power of the people. Bureaus and bureaucrats have been retained at the expense of the taxpayer. We are spending altogether too much money for government services which are neither practical nor necessary. In addition to this, we are attempting too many functions and we need a simplification of what the Federal government is giving the people."
"Campaign Address on Agriculture and Tariffs at Sioux City, Iowa, September 29, 1932"."
Well, we all know where that went....

Mouse, its a lot more than "lobbyism". This type of facism plays out in these revolving doors between government and industry.
One glaring example is Monsanto. There are several executives who have gone back and forth (more than once!) between leadership positions in the industry and leadership positions in the FDA.
Then there were Cheny's ties to Haliburton, as another well known example. The military industrial complex is rife with this kind of cronyism. Its business as usual in the usa. The foxes are guarding the hen house.
And, do I have to point out the most agregious example? The bailout of the banking industry (supported by both Bush and Obama, by the way). Those bastards held our economy hostage and out government hopped to it. Hell, Obama even kept Bush's key players on the team. Democrat/Rebublican, it doesn't matter any more. They own both sides.
The american people have become totally impotent. The occupy movement? What a joke that was. What did they accomplish? Nada! We're back to business as usual.
No wonder we need so much Viagra . . .

I believe that the impotence of the voting public goes hand in hand with the demise of organized labor. I see nothing wrong with lobbying apart from the money involved, but unfortunately money is a reality of the situation.
Labor unions are a lobbying force for working people that are in the present situation, no match for well funded corporations. This goes hand in hand with the huge disparity in wealth that keeps growing in our country. Wealth along with power gets concentrated in the hands of very few people. I do agree that both parties have been complicit in feeding from the corporate trough. Sometime back in the eighties the Democrats started to abandon labor which came to full fruition with Clinton's signing of NAFTA.

Well Honey Boo Boo, we tried hands off deregulation and shrinking the role of "government" of the financial sector twice,
once in the "roaring twenties" which ended in the Great Depression. STRIKE ONE
and again from 2000-2008 under the great government hating, de regulating Republican Bush, and what happened?
what happened was RECESSION, tens of million of jobs lost STRIKE TWO

When it takes about a Billion dollars to be president.. 10s of millions to run for senate and a few million to run for the house.
Where do you think the money comes from?
Who do you think the elected serve first?
Government of the people by the people and for the people does not exist here.
Not until we make contributions to candidates illegal

The man was filled with irony.
Interned Japanese Americans yet created the CCC...
I give more heed to IKE:
Eisenhower warns us of the military industrial complex!
Listen to Rumsfeld, He is trying to point fingers while he is instrumental in the corruption.
Military Industrial Complex Totally Out of Control!
The FED is out of control.
It is bedmates with corporate America.
Grossly reduce the FED!
Power back to the States!
I want My Republic reinstated from the Federation it has become.
How many teachers these days teach about, and when was the last time you heard of a plebiscite vote.
When was the last time you heard of a Senator or Congress persons kid killed in a foreign country?
Obama talks health care... yeah right !
While he and Federal bureaucrats get the best health care for the rest of their lives even if they only serve four years !
Reduce the FED, I am FED up !.
How many people at a state level do you think would vote to go to or sustain this stupid guise of policing the world ?
What we spend in a day in the middle east and on FED politicians salaries and health care could be spent domestically with huge positive impact !
The way we are headed...
I predict that in less than two decades 10 percent of the American citizens will be employed in law enforcement under some federal program.
And their salaries and benefits will be, well .... a joke compared with the FED bureaucrats !
REDUCE THE FED ALTOGETHER !
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, and I'm with you all the way climbski2:
Spending caps on campaign spending...
A penny over and your DSQ'd from the race never to run again !!!!!
