Question for Tony, if it's not too off putting...when it rains should I walk slowly to keep my torso dry...or should I run fast to avoid mussing my oversized coiff?

Tony I have 8 possible device choices for booting. The first 4 are
this, 1. *Diskette Drive 2. CD/DVD/CD-RW 3. Card Bus Nic 4. Internal
HDD. Take a look at these prior to the questions.

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

Questions from diagrams. Take note of *Dock.
1. What is a Security Cable?

2. Where is it showing?

Facts for boot device questions. The 1'st 4 are set in order
as are in paragraph 1. Here are the next 4 choices in order.
1. C/Port 11 or C/Dock 11 NIC
2. C/Dock or C/Dock 11 top PCI slot NIC
3. C/Dock 11 bottom PCI slot NIC
4. Mini PCI NIC

Questions from facts.
1. Is *Dock referring to Express Cards?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard

From the same wiki page,
PCMCIA devices can be connected to an ExpressCard slot via an adapter

2. Is Dock bootable if a USB can be adapted to it?
3. Is there such a adapter?
4. What is C/Port?
5. Is Cardbus Nic the pcmcia side slots?
6. If 5 is yes will it boot a USB stick? See next fact.

1 in paragraph 1 is now CMOS "Diskette Drive A:" showing "Modular Bay" and its a 1.44 meg floppy.

Can a large modular bay hard drive fit in there and is there such for fitting?

Tony im adding clarity and asking questions because i want to
possibly add a large bootable hard drive and boot from a USB
stick. Dell documentation is not clear enough for me.

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

10 the Modular bay currently shows automatically in CMOS as "Diskette Drive A: Modular Bay".
Currently the Modular bay is a 1.44 meg floppy drive.
Automatically and currently CMOS shows "Diskette Drive B: Not attached".
From the previous post note the boot order 1."Diskette Drive" and 4. "Internal HDD"->(Hard Disk Drive).

Can a large Hard Disk Drive be read, written, executable and bootable from the Modular bay?

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

5. is listed as Docking connector. Please refresh your memory by looking at the previous posted boot options.

Is 5. C/Dock?

What is C/Port? I can't find it within the Dell documentation.

What is Cardbus NIC? Is a network interface required for booting from this?

What is Mini PCI Nic? "Same as above?"

A USB stick will not boot from either USB port, however i did have the modular bay attached.

Can a USB stick be booted by adaptation to 5. or "8. in the previous post"?

If i detach the Modular bay will a USB stick boot as Diskette Drive?

Tony in case you or others have looked at some CMOS settings noted.
If you attempted to duplicate some I posted you do not need to fdisk,
disklabel, re-format or reinstall to bring back network settings or
default music sounds -> crock(Yes, i know some are not relevant to the sound.)

Here are the current CMOS BIOS settings.

Pg:1of7 CMOS BIOS.
Diskette Drive A: Modular Bay (This is a automatic setting.)
Modular Bay: Diskette Drive (This is a automatic setting.)
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive: Fixed Optical

Pg:2of7 CMOS BIOS. (These are all manual settings in this order.)
Diskette Drive
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
Internal HDD
Modular Bay HDD
Cardbus NIC
C/Port 11 or C/Dock 11 NIC
C/Dock or C/Dock 11 top PCI slot NIC
C/Dock 11 bottom PCI slot NIC
Mini-PCI NIC

Pg:3of7 CMOS BIOS.
Docking Status Undocked (This is a automatic setting.)
Docking Ethernet Enabled (This is a manual setting.)
Docking IRQ OPTIMIZED (This is a manual setting.)
Universal Connect Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

Pg:4of7 CMOS BIOS.
MiniPCI Device Combo (This is a automatic setting.)
MiniPCI status Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

Again why i posted the previous questions is,
1. I want to boot a USB stick without a remote network connection.
2. I may wish to install a large Module Bay Hard Disk Drive and boot from that.
3. As with many if not most Lap Tops they are limited to USB 1.0 speeds
at the USB ports so to use USB 2.0-3.0 etc. i think i need a firewire to
USB adaptation from the firewire port showing in the above diagram(s) but
i don't see a boot option for that.

Again Tony or any others.
1. How can i boot a USB stick on this system from the pg.2of7 showings?

2. I assume 2. above i answered myself with showing of boot option 4 on pg.2of7.

3. Can i boot from the firewire port? If so what boot option on pg.2of7 is it?

I would not be asking if i knew and Dell's tech manual for the system has nothing about this.

if you see moss, which side of the tree on you on?

EDIT: sure glad the Cap'n did not see this

So zbrown? Answers?

The firewire connection is shown as #7 in this diagram and listed
as IEEE 1394 connector.

http://www.supertopo.com/photos/17/5/292041_17199_L.jpg

It also maybe larger if accessed from the previous post.

MiniPCI status Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

The above is a correction to pg.4of7 in the previous post.

Hey Tony ...

if you see moss, which side of the tree on you on?

That maybe a good question? As of 2002-2003 it was assumed commercially
internally linked list were still being used. At that time it was
common to have class member functions for pre-order,post-order and
in-order transversals of the trees. I was told or read they are not
using the transversal functions anymore, maybe because log() issues
degenerating back to linked list are already known.
