Metallica is one of my favorite bands ever, but they're not Stoner Rock, they're Thrash Metal.
Lately, Wo Fat has been getting a lot of play in my house. The Black Code album, and I do mean album as in vinyl, is heavier than an elephants nutsack, and full of swampy psych-blues infused raunch that grooves.
Take Hendrix and Sabbath, put em in a blender with Pantera, and you get something like Wo Fat.

Mars Volta is the worst band ever, the singer is very annoying. lol, I HOPE IT'S NOT THE FUTURE OF ANYTHING.

Split, I think Dead Meadow usually gets the "Doom" label or psych-doom.
There are a couple of killer channels on youtube for Stoner/Doom/Psych/drone. One guy, "Stoned Meadow of Doom" posts lots of full albums of recent releases, couple others are "Mr. Stone Believer" and "Doom Lord" that are really good too. It's worth checking out.
I listened to the new All Them Witches "Dying Surfer Meets his Maker" album last night on Stoned Meadow of DOom channel, AWESOME!

I've been pretty stoked on some instrumental stuff lately, not sure if I'd call it stoner rock but there are some elements that show definite influence. Lots of jamming and buildup, long songs.
