Sorry Ron.. Norg rarely rubs me the wrong way. Dean on the other hand... well. Whats weird is that I don't' fully agree with Norwegian on this subject. I know people like what he describes, but I disagree that everyone who carries a gun does it to feel manly. I carried a gun for awhile on one trip because it was the prudent thing to do. I agree with Norwegian.

I grew up in the country and plenty of people hunted deer/birds and most of my uncles had rifles. I had a single pump Daisy BB gun but always switched with one of my buddies as kids and carried his compound bow. Never actually hit anything with it. I can respect hunting as long as you are going to eat what you kill, and use the rest of the animal. Taking as much meat as you can carry is B.S. take the whole animal or let it live.

People who carry guns for self protection are part of the problem in my book. I don't see more guns as more safe I see it as more likely that someone gets shot and I think we will see an increase in people shot wrongly (not in self defense) by other citizens in our future.

Just read something about gun and ammo sales going up as a result of the election. Interesting reaction having citizens arming themselves, I'm at a loss as to what the heck they are so afraid of? Citizens that are largely unarmed? They think in our gun obsessed society someone is going to take their rights away? Sure seems to me the NRA is one great group of marketers for the sale of arms. Too bad they're using fear as a driver because the worse thing you can loose in any relationship is trust. For a society to make any progress we need trust.

Ammo has not been snatched up like last time though, probably the cost, but it is moving.

I bought 3 guns yesterday (Saiga 20, Bushmaster varminter with fluted barrel, Rossi lever action .357), but thats no big deal. I had my eye on a nice used over and under 12 too on Wednesday but the manager had the day off and when I came back yesterday to wheel and deal it was GONE (!!!&*#$&@!!)

Splitter,

"It is far too late to wring hands over the size of one's pud."

Happiness is really cool gunmetal. It means we got peace for a while.

Time has no vagina. It creates itself. A better image is a black hole. Similar, in fact, to the one Weej seems to dwell in. I see his point, though. We as a nation are the laughingstock of those civilized societies which prevent easily-obtained firearms.

On behalf of the bears, deer, wild sheep and goats, and all the rest of the targets of "sportsmen", you can all kiss our shriveled dicks, you dominant gun-toting wankers. Weej, you hit the center.

What is it that makes us think it's cool or admirable to wipe out defenseless animals from a safe distance with a high-powered rifle? It's called "hunting" and it's legal. This does not make it a nice thing. I think it's much more admirable to stalk "prey" with a camera. And you don't need tags, there's no mess, and the creatures get to go on grazing.

Hey, Ron, it's how I feel, have felt, and will feel. I give you the law, but that doesn't satisfy. I give you tradition in this country. Still no satisfaction. It's either necessary to kill game or it is not. Private land, do what you will.

I am simply crying in the E-wilderness.

Norwegian, you are denying the true nature of man. Man is an animal and any animal, plant, or other creature on this planet is here because they fight to survive. Peace does not make a man from a chimpanzee. All species have a constant arms race with their own kind and with all others who might ever take their resources and lead them to extinction.

Nobility is only a strange side effect of a big brain and will be ignored or will lead the human race to extinction while some other species passes us by... by buying guns.

You want to rid the world of those that buy guns? Get a gun and start shooting because you can't get rid of them with poetry.

Lets talk about Paranoia for a moment here.

We have America arming itself like NEVER before. That is many millions of people. So can we conclude that there just may be a worry or two down the road? When you look at the odd govt agencies that don't seem to have anything to do with LE stockpiling hollow point ammo across the country leaves one with questions. And then read the NDAA 2013 law that comes into effect in January and states wishing to succeed at alarming rates.

Ive lived 54 years thus far and never have seen the likes of what goes on today. I use the Germany of old in comparison to these actions taken by our govt as the 2013 law does not deal with terrorism but rather "belligerents". Which means You or I. A blanket law that allows them to do anything they please to US w/o due process of any article 111 kind. Its quite easy to compare that to Nazi Germany, and what we accept today will be increased upon tomorrow.

I agree with gun ownership here in America despite all evidence to the contrary. Maybe if the paranoid knee didn't jerk so hard, people would take y'all a little more seriously. A paranoid mind with a concealed weapon is not a comforting thought.

Again, I know you guys and your reduced reading comprehension when it comes to this issue, so I repeat: I agree with the right to own guns here in America.

Survival, as you well know, That DOESNT stop the will of the people to be FREE. Never has. The last time we fell under such "laws" we went to war and kicked the british out of the country. EVERY military and ex military person i know says they will NOT co-operate with any such law in any shape or form. Their OATH contains the reasoning.. "enemies foreign and domestic".

edit: John,, yes that is exactly it. That was the ADD ON and an extension of executive powers to the Patriot act. This has been going on for many presidents past- to seek executive powers. But the very language of the 2013 bill should chill one to the bones.

Ron.. My bones were chilled with the Patriot act. And the various not for regular criminals ( meaning they sit empty right now ) detention centers that have been build around the country. Many of them during the Bush era.

Glad to see you are awake now.

So I don't really blame Obama.. He is part of a much bigger problem. Mitt or McCain would have done the same thing, but the gun toters probably wouldn't have gone out and bought as many guns or as much ammunition. And Bush was definitely part of it, with his pals Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Indeed John there are ammo, supply and prison stations now built across the country. And i was also concerned with the Patriot act as there were many that feared exactly what has happened- that the act would be added to as most all presidents for quite some time have attempted to gain executive powers never meant for them to have by the constitution. And it wouldnt matter who is in office no doubt there. Time for we the people to get LOUD on this.

and Wade,, no they are concerned about CARTELS, and the some 400,000 KNOWN gang members- gang members that exhibit the most violent acts there are in this country presently. The same ones the GOVT ALLOWS here. 400,000 KNOWN- which should equal 400,000 deportations or imprisoned gang members. They are afraid of being robbed in broad daylight by these individuals. They are afraid when hiking and they stumble into a large cartel plantation- as well they should be.
Then throw in the NDAA 2013 law and they also become afraid of their own govt.

Holy sh#t Ron, you took my comment about quantities of arms, and you turned it into the government?!

That's the kind of twist that might make some think that you're going a little extreme.....
You should go reread my post.

But I'm here for ya man.

That being said, there's nothing in a battleship showdown like the one that can a shoot a couple miles further!

You fear the gun but not the knife,
rely on your fist to defend your life.
Willing to give your rights away
for delusions of safety you gain that way.
Dems or repubs hell the green party too
will all just impose their own ideals upon you.
The will of man-
Enforce his will
upon his fellow man.
That is the result of the societal plan.
This rant o'er guns is just idealistic spate,
more justification to subjugate.
Thank God we all live in a country thats free.
But how do i force my belief upon Thee?
Take a toke

edit: Survival, what do your VET friends say?

For many this is all far fetched whooowah. And i see that point. But then black and white is black and white. The NDAA black and white says i could disappear come january. Super Topo is getting very good coverage on internet searches. (good management of the site i suppose)
Im in that column of "belligerents" as im not singing praise to our govt. So what does that mean for me? Perhaps ill stop posting ANY political content come JAN. Thus they stifle my freedom of speech. Not even cell phones will be safe from prying ears. So then the choice is just take it..

I had a lot of training in the LE field at one time. Maybe this makes me view things differently. I KNOW what the govt is capable of as i was once their tool in the field. And even I was used to a degree youll not know about. In my duties, i recieved admonishments and gag orders in just my small time part of the gubbment world. And yeah i knew very well the catch-alls i could use to "tool" someone if i so chose. So when i look at such things as the NDAA 2013, flashbacks go with it and concern grows.

What would my long lost cousin Daniel Boone say about all this?

Daniel Boone would have agreed that the rights of the individual should reign supreme. Almost every swingin' dick here would agree with that guiding light on some level. He also agreed with the federal government of his day in many ways.

He also would have had little clue about understanding a 21st century, global economy, the white guy isn't right about everything world, where the colored citizens are supposed to have as many rights as the "non" colored citizens.

Ron, I never disagreed that the "government bears close watching." I think one of the founding fathers said that? Jefferson?

But more citizens believing that their own government is the actual enemy? We're clearly not that far down the path of destruction in my opinion.

This present government is universes more just for the common man than the vast majority of governments in human history.

But yet the black and white law seems surely to be against the very fabric that formed this country. DB wouldnt stand for that. Im ALL FOR a WORKING and properly functioning government. We dont have that. I write my reps, yet i dont hear from them back. Obviously my concerns arent their concerns.

I remember watching star trek long ago- thinking what impossible things they had. Now we have our own flip communicators complete with push to talk features.. There's plenty of judgment on both sides. A lot of knee jerk on the gun side, including judgments that Weedge is putting his daughters in danger for not having a gun (statistics may say otherwise).

Although, granted, Weedge waded in with all the acrimony of a nut punch ;).

I dont see Wege as a hipocrite. Hes expressing his opinion. By this thread i take his opinin to be that of anti-gun sentiment. And he openly states his presumption that gun ownership singularly devalues the owner.
The vegan wearing leather, just like those who eat meat yet deplore hunting, is a hipocrite.
At least in that regard. I would not automaticly discount them as worthless.

I also don't see the bearing of the vegan who hates hunters in anything Weedge said at all. Anyway, we're all hypocrites in some form or fashion, it's not really a mind blower.

If you want to reflexively scream "vegan!" after getting nut punched, I guess that's your right. Or condition? I dunno, some kind 'er brain thing. Quick question. Do you scream "falling" or "vegan" when you take a whipper? This is important, please be honest.

Just curious, has anyone ditched their guns and just happened to notice that their "little dicks" immediately grew a couple of inches?

edit: the reason i ask is because i have a winchester 30/30 stashed away in my storage locker that I haven't even dug out, let alone shot, in 10-15 years, and i was thinkin' if perhaps I got rid of that rifle, maybe there actually may be some correlation between "little dicks" and ...

oh, never mind!!

Is this a gun argument?

Cool, I think guns are great. I own two myself.

I do however think that people who obsess over their firearms are scared, whiny, pussies who are compensating for some inherent weakness in their personality.

Genetics? Parenting? I don't know.

The fact that gun nuts are hoarding ammo is a sign that said people are weak, scared, and unintelligent.

I like shooting, but reactionaries freak me out.

Don't get me going on handguns...

Elk, Moose, and the tenderloin off whitetail deer. All the rest of that Ronanderson listed taste like crap. Only people dumb enough to eat grouse and dove are the ones who spent a bunch of time and scratch to hunt em in the first. Call yer dentist first too cause #7 1/2 shot does a number on your pearlies.

I always thought little dicks and big guns was a name for body builders. Take them roids and shrink their gonads but get some big old arms. Then they just go apeshit crazy and drop dead like Lyle Alzedoh.

Are you going to eat what you kill?
I have something to say to both factions, here!

My father, mother & family are from Cape Breton, NS! He, when he was courting my mother, went out and shot a deer and (after field gutting it, etc) brought it to her mother and offered it their family. That told her (my grandma/grandpa had already passed on) that my father was capable of providing food for my mother. This was 1940.

By the time I was 6 y.o. my father took me out into those very same Canadian woods and taught me how to set snares to trap wild hairs (rabbits). And how to track and hunt them with a rifle (22)! This wasn't a hobby or simple pastime, it was at times, pure survival (cape Breton was an isolated island back then, and the winters could be VERY severe). It could have meant life or death in the most extreme situation, and believe me when I say things could get very extreme in the Canadian outback of the 1950's! But it also meant supplementing an, at times, Spartan existence ... putting some much needed protein on the dinner table. There is something very satisfying & rewarding, and very ingrained in our psyche, regarding that.

We moved to upstate NY and for my 8th birthday I asked for a rifle. I drew pictures of one a couple times and got up early in the morning and snuck down and put it in my fathers lunch pail before he went to work s a reminder! So, when my birthday rolled around and this long box wrapped in birthday paper was handed to me, you can guess what I thought it was. Well, to my surprise, it was not a rifle, it was a recurve hunting bow and set of hunting arrows. I was shocked. I couldn't figure out what went wrong ... was I that bad of an artist?

Well, I fell in love with that bow (and i never questioned my father bout why he got it, but I suspect he figured i was little to young to be out in the woods, etc. with my own rifle). I also developed a keen interest on the Native American tribes and culture. Spent countless hours in the library[s] (we moved a lot) studying about their ways. I also learned a lot about their respect for all life. My father also had that respect, and passed it on to me.

I recall coming home one day with my newly initiated butterfly collection. I had this beautiful Monarch butterfly that I had caught (when i was 13), put in a bottle with mothballs to kill it, and then pinned to cardboard and proudly showed it to him. I will never forget the sadness and sincerity that afternoon when he said to me, "Oh the poor thing, it just wanted to live to!"

I learned a valuable lesson that day, that there is a time to kill, and a time to let live. He (and the books on Indian culture) had taught me that early on but it was slipping away secondary to the changing world around me (we had moved to California, lol). My father was no wimp. In fact, he had gone over to our next door neighbors house that very summer (had never been in that house) and in front of this mans 10-12 kids and wife, took off his belt and wiped his ass and then drug him outside and threw him in our car and took him to the police station and had him arrested for child abuse.

These kids were being tortured every day. They lived right next to us (across the alley) and every evening we could hear one of them crying, etc! They had a lot of kids and we had just figured one or two were being punished for being bad or whatever. One day this kid about my age, invited me into the house. It was very unusual for him to do that because they were very aloof, very guarded and stuck to themselves. He told me this horrific story how his father would come home every evening and randomly pick one child and then literally torture the hell out of them well into the night. I saw the fear in their eyes (the were literally shaking and weeping) and the hideous scowl on their fathers face when he walked past me as I was going down the stairs and out of the house and he was going up to their rooms to pick his victim of the day.

Well, that is besides the point. What I am saying, the point i am attempting to make, is that things have gotten somewhat out of hand in America over the last half century (since I was a kid). I use to go out and hunt jackrabbits with that bow with broadpoints/arrow tips (the blade type for hunting big game) and dreamed about bringing home a big buck some day instead of a measly jackrabbit.

BUT, i also new that if I had killed those hairs/rabbits when one had a litter of babies, there would be a bunch of little babies waiting an awful long time for their mother to return ... suffering a cruel and prolonged death. And I had stood face to face with a large cottontail which i had wounded but was not yet dead. It turned and stood up on its haunches and looked me directly in my eyes and let out a long and desperate wail. It was begging me for its life (it to just wanted to live). If you have never heard that from an animal, and are a hunter, I hope you soon will. It will certainly give anyone who has little or no concern for their preys desire to exist something to seriously consider before you take it home and hang it on your wall.

Well, kinda of a rant/ramble ... hope that i made my point!

PEACE!!

Edit: Another thing. How are you gonna feel when one of these people you just got into a heated argument with the night before ends up dead, and it could have been somehow directly related to some you said. Perhaps they were distracted by it while driving home (preoccupied by it) and drove off the road or hit some kid!

Try showing each other a little respect. We are each only on this planet for a VERY short time. Today could be your (or the person your hating on) last day here on earth. How would you like YOUR last day here on earth to be like?

Ron O,

Dood, I am pretty certain I have killed WAY more rabbits than you, bro! How many rabbits have ya eatin? I am positive i got ya beat in that dept also. Rabbit is taste a lot like chickens dark meat, but a lot tastier, imo. And the same goes for deer/venison (prollie shot/eatin more).

Matter of fact, I loved hunting, it was practically a way of life. And if I was hungry and didn't live directly across the street from Albertson's and and a half dozen fast food places, i would do it in a heartbeat. It just seems as though it has lost much of its allure (for me anyway) living in these times in the middle of a big city. These doods here on ST whining about it (guns & hunting) would be the first ones to take it up, or beg you to go out and kill something for them if they had been born 50-100 years ago, or even now and lived off the beatin' track.

In my opinion, wildlife and animals in general have more than one purpose though. And I have come to respect that. That is all I was saying.

And as far as being an "asswipe" I sure in hell hope you weren't referring to me. Cuz, I have little self control at times, and I would hate to have you kick my F'n ass all over Jtree or wherever, should we run into eachother sometime and I was fool enough (believe me i am) to come up to you and remind you of it and challenge you to a fight.

Because where I come from, them's are fighting words. And I have gotten my ass kicked so many times over "fightin' words" that getting it kicked one more time isn't gonna make a whole lotta difference! lol

BTW, several of my uncles in canookland were hunting guides, bitd!(fisherman also/lobster, haddock, cod & halibut). Like I said, it was a way of life (a damn good way, imo)!!!

Ron A, ya I know ya only hunt jacks during winter. WInters are long in Cape Briton. The one that i confronted that stood up on its haunches was a big ol sucker (very tasty) that i bagged in Utah when I was about 14 (with a 22/not a bow). Venison was a staple in CB, ate it several times a week at least, & a lot of venison jerky. So, no telling how many. I was pretty sure ya had me beat in the hunting dept in larger game.

Ron O, (hard to keep you two Ron's seperated) I wasn't kissing anyone's ass, maybe attempting two walk a fine line between two camps, but no compromising my stance or whatever. Surely no asswiping, but I'll have to go back and look at what I wrote (suppose its not beyond me, lol) since I typed it last night and had just finished watching my favorite movie, "Bambi", for the 117th time (gets me every time, lo)! ...just kidding!

BTW, haven't you figured out by now that Weege is an F'n troll? I really like and admire the guy in many respects, but he musta been born under a f'n bridge. Just sayin'!

edit: "admire/respect" he's a family man, and loves his chidren & his wife. Hardworking/built his own house in the woods, pursued and got a degree and a career. Rope solos sh#t, etc., likes dogs, don't take sh#t from no one. and prollie many other things, but i don't wanna be accused of being an asswipe & get myself into another fight over "fightin words" cuz I'm really a big chickin sh#t except fer online !! ;)

Oh ya, one more thing i respect him for, he's uglier than sh#t and never whines about it!!

Ron, rabbit, we used to raise them. But the raccoons would rip down the 9mm gauge fencing on the hutches, no problem and take the rabbit they wanted.

We had several chicken coops. The largest was about 15'x15'. When we would hear a noise the dogs and I would run up the hill. Try getting a skunk out of a coop, with a broom handle. You hold your breath and pray for the best.

Eggs are a missing = skunk. Chicken is a missing = raccoon.

The whole coop slaughtered, with out a chicken taken away = domesticated dogs.

And I have seen chickens swallow down mice. Chickens are vicious, nice little rabbits can be vicious, I worked on a ranch, only turkeys are stupider than sheep.

Goats are cool though. Ask Chaz.

EDIT

We had one goat, Lucifer, a big sucker, at least four feet at the shoulders. He had big horns, well over 15". We would 'wrestle' with him. He knew all the tricks, he'd drop his shoulder, and you thought you'd won, but then bang... up his head went and he won the contest. Talk about arm wrestling, Lucifer knew it all.

EDIT again

And Lucifer knew he'd gotten the better of a human (Mac, Casey, Brian, Andy, me)

He went to pasture on a friend's ranch, Levi, outside of Marysville, in the Sierra foothills. Levi had a pony and Lucifer and the pony hit it off like best of friends. It was a great sight to see, a pony and a goat becoming instant best friends.

I have a horse and goat out back from the neighbors all the time- follow me around like two dogs.

I wanted to add this (cuz i don't think that i really made my point).

Where I grew up there were NO grocery stores or markets, or places to buy food, PERIOD! We, everyone on our part of the Island, were self suficient, or you starved to death, plain and simple. Subsistance fisherman, hunters and farmers. Most did all three. Some specialized in farming and would trade/barter for fish, etc!

If any of you gun/hunter haters were living there, born there when I was, you would have been doing the exact same thing, even Werner Braun!

Everyone owned guns, had respect for firearms, and it had nothing to do with the size of there penis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And although Lucifer knew we loved him he was a big goat he needed more room. Going to Levi's ranch and meeting up with a pony who needed companionship, it was great to see them frolic together. A goat and a horse/pony... instant friends, sort of like meeting someone in C4 and the climbing with them.

And it was a sight to see, believe me, as goat and a pony, never knew each other, but instant buddies, running in the fields, frolicking, my heart wept and yet, Lucifer was having a better life.

Anders, does it think it is a dobergoat?

I love you people. It has been a stressful morning. The health care assistant (HCA) the the health board sends on weekends (not always the same one), didn't call me until this morning, when I was at the garage and the mechanic was telling me that the ECP light could be anything (as I found out on Google), but it was the break light switch, more money out of the pocket.

So when the HCA came by I raised (I did not shout, you'll know when I shout) my voice why she did not give me advanced notice (she was suppose to the night before), and she was intimidated, and called the nurse, Mary, who I had never met.

Mary comes by and starts lecturing me about being civil. I told her there are two sides on a coin. It would be nice, decent, civil, to have some idea when the HCA would show up. She threatened (yes in so many words) that services may be withdrawn. Jennie needs these carers everyday for social support and interaction.

But I made a bollocks of the whole situation. Rent is due today, I don't have it. Car mechanic's bill, I can just make it.

I did not lose it, but I came pretty close. Shouting? NO! Upset and raised voice, YES! Stupid? That is me.

Stress can be a killer.
