of legitimate partners, someone who contributed to the ascent, not just jugging the whole thing.
Cheyne and I are 35 years apart.

No way, Jeremy, Gagner is younger than me and you are older than Cheyne!
Max is not tall, he's about 5'8", but yeah, I bring the average way down.

Eric Sanford, who I did the NA Wall with, and who probably never cracked 5'4" wrote about us in a Summit article "our combined height is no where near eleven feet and we both use half bags as comfortable sleeping bags…"

Apparently ot the largest, but for reference:
Gerry Bloch 81, Mike Corbett 45, spread of 36, in 1999 - not much different than Mark and Cheyne!
Hans Florine 37, Scott Cory, 11, spread of 26, in 2001.
[sorry, I did not see the "legitimate partner" qualifier]

Most female teams beat short male teams for minimum stature.
Have Jim and Cara H. done El Cap yet?

I don't think Jim and Kara have done El Cap yet, other than the West Face, and a run up to the Stovelegs where there was a a traffic jam of other parties. Their age spread is somewhere in the 30s, I think.

Reminds me of driving a 4x4 road into southern Death Valley when I was 15 - my grandmother was driving the other 4x4 and she was 81, my dad thought we probably had the oldest & youngest ever to drive that road, let alone at the same time!

I know Eric really wants to get the oldest NIAD ascent with both climbers over 60 but I don't think it's happened yet.

I wonder what the largest spread in IQ's is for a team.
I'm a 182. Mark? Please say we aren't gonna break the record this Spring.

I've been wondering recently who is the oldest to free an El Cap route? Not the West Face. Jim Herson? Age? When is Hudon going to get after this?

I think Steve freed it at 50ish, and one or more Huber has done so in their 40's, I think (guessing on age). Heinz was probably in his 40's when he did Freerider, and Platinum Rob would have been around 40 on the Pre-Muir.
Mark, maybe I'll get you for Secret Santa. It's still sitting out waiting for me to go to the post office and remember it at the same time.

Well JLP,
Has Englekirk freed an EC route? He'd be a candidate for oldest to free it. Probably gotta be StevePoopi at this point, but wasn't that on the one with the A0 rappell point (El Nino maybe?) not all free if you're a hard liner on them things.

Well, Max and I are going to be celebrating the 40th anniversary of our first climb together, The Nose, in 2016. He'll be 58 and I'll be 60.
Route TBA.

Mark, maybe you should train up Paul, and do a route with him. There must be 30+ years between you, maybe enough for a record.

None of this age stuff or spreads make any sense at all pertaining to climbing competence.
Yet it's used all the time.
Seems totally weird to me.
It's what you know and can do in the present moment that counts ......

Werner, yes, it's relevance to competence is non-existant, but it's more fun to talk about this than politics!
MH, she keeps saying she wants to climb the Nose with me. She's 15 now. It would be wild to do it with her.

I wanna say Tom Higgins, but I may be wrong. I think I read about it in a magazine, but I may be wrong .

Sorry if I missed this up-thread, but I wonder about the youngest combined age? But they had to have swung leads. For starters, I'm putting out Luke and Werner back in '70 or '71?.
