I'm surprised it didn't pass in Oregon. After all, their team is the Blazers.

Silver,

You pose an interesting question.

It will be interesting to see if there will be more vehicle accidents down the road, and how they deal with checking drivers for pot, rather than booze.

It's all fun and gAmes till stoned doodle kills a family of four while, driving high. Just saying this pot is not the pot some of you old doods smoked its hit the bong then the couch.

Maybe what you had BITD... But not all of us smoked bunk.

Driving is a whole different thing.

If your light its true that cause you cant think you might do something stupid.

But if your a vet its different.

I know some people who toke up before going motorracing, and they win!

And remember all climbers smoke pot.

Hey Silver, why not all your hysteria and chest puffing-out over booze?? Or for that matter, tobacco? They few times I have smoked cigs, the massive head rush that I got was overwhelming, and I wouldn't want to be driving while that happened.

I think you're just displaying the typical and tired double standard.

Silver, I think you have the notion that all smokers are space cadets.

That would be incorrect.

Legalization won't significantly increase consumption, so current stats regarding OUI will remain largely the same.

If your fight is impaired driving, alcohol is and will remain to be the greatest danger.

I'm not saying you do this, but think about all the people who cruise to the corner store for something after they've had two beers.

More dangerous.

Unlike alcohol it has to be tested by a blood test, not something a cop can do at a traffic stop. The dilemma will be whether to arrest a person, not knowing what the test results will be. But they do this already.

I think there will be an increase in use, not just because of the law, but because this whole thing is already having an effect on public perceptions about mj. But some of it may be a substitute for alcohol, which is a good thing, in terms of driving, and overall detrimental effect on society. Alcohol abuse makes people mean, mj has the opposite effect.

A far more significant effect, though, will be the gold rush. MJ will be massively produced and exported to other states. This is the challenge facing the legislature that has to write regulations to try to prevent this. But I think it will be unstoppable.

One other point. People are saying this doesn't matter because MJ is still illegal at the federal level. Maybe so, but 99% of MJ arrests are by state authorities. So step one is, stop cooperating with the DEA. This pratically guarantees that users will not be arrested. Someone running a big commercial operation may have problems, though. In writing the regs, the legislators will have to think of ways to protect them.

I think that I can understand Silver's point of view.

I just became a grandfather, yesterday, for the second time and as I get older, the thought does cross my mind occasionally of the dangers my siblings
are exposed to on the road by drunks.

I know many who smoke pot and they seem to function quite normally; however,

I'm sure there are a percentage who can't handle it, just like booze, and I assume those are the people Silver is worried about.

You'll have incidents where people are stopped at a green light, or parked in front of a stop sign, with no immediate plans to go anywhere. But as for danger, I'm with Locker on this, get the drunks off the road first.

Overall, I would be quite happy to empty our prisons of non-violent offenders. Put them into a treatment program.

It is cheaper than prison if it is outpatient. Prison is super expensive. That is why the private prison lobby is against letting anybody go.

It will be interesting to see how the Feds respond. I think the fears regarding driving are over exaggerated. Alcohol is and will continue to be a greater threat. I do believe that the slow lane might be more congested with slow overly cautious drivers;-)
