Can we make it non-sectarian, and call it a Yuletide Gift Exchange, or even a Midwinter Gift Exchange?

Someone needs to sign up Audrey's daughter, Camilla. In fact, maybe we need a system for all those under six... Baby bluering. Baby Aristides. And so on. But they only get - they don't have to give.

I'm with Melissa. I just looked up sectarian to be sure.....

Meaning: characteristic of a sect or limited in character or scope: parochial.

Santa, especially the secret one, doesn't qualify under those definitions.
So I guess we're good to go with the Secret Santa Gift Exchange. Smiles, lynne (love yo Anders)

Lynne,

I was starting a remodel in my kitchen when I had my accident last year.
I had everything delivered to my place. When I determined that I was going to be incapacitated for quite awhile, I had all the cabinets and appliances put in storage. I received your box, but it disappeared when the contractors moved everything. Your gift was either stolen, or accidentally thrown away.

I thought it might have been you who was my SS, but when I emailed you, and sent you a PM, I never got a response.

Sorry I never gave you a proper thank you.

Hope all is well with you. I returned to work last Wednesday.

No, no... Humble in a realizing "I'm going to make my gift better than last year" way isn't the right perspective. There's research to be done and tailoring the gift to the recipient. Missed that last time around due to time constraints with a little one (how is she 2 already???), and looking forward to personalizing it much better this time.

"...it's the lack of sensitivity, refinement, and intelligence that bothers me!"--eKat

I saw your email. You said Please. I went to sleep late, got up late. I would have taken this down as soon as I saw email as nice as you sent. She did say Please, ladies. I took it off, like Miss Carole, but the nice Xmas fantasy must have been just a dream of Xmas past with Liz in my mind. My late lady loved Xmas. She was as bawdy as they bawds with large bods ever seem to get, since it's sterotyping, insulting, demeaning, talking about large breasts in general to some VCs (I'm not calling ANYONE here that dreaded label, except zBrown) I'll stop.

I then saw your tempest-in-a-teapot blather and that last remark stung badly. Not sensitive? I fvcking cried I laughed so hard. Not fvcking refined? Malarkey! Un-intelligent? What?

So you think you pegged me, or just my actions. I certainly hope it was the latter. It's a rhetorical question. The answer shall remain a secret.

CHEESES OF NAZARETH,
long-time advertiser in Summit Magazine, has announced that they are cancelling their advertising with the periodical in response to widespread criticism of a photograph in the latest 1973 Summit Calendar Issue.
the photograph was accompanied by an advertising logo for a climbing ropes manufacturer.
"Apparently Christmas is becoming too commercialized for some Valley Christians," commented Royal Robbins, editor of the magazine. "It is not my place to condemn anyone for their actions. I am holier than that, anyway. I learned that lesson years ago."

I do apologize to anyone with hurt feelings. I sh#t wherever I go.

Pray, if you must, to the god on high.

I will celebrate mine.

Else where.

Maybe I'll just go to Tierra del Fuego to live or Ellesmere Island and crack stupid penguin jokes. Or to Petulant Place, where my ex lives.

So there.

Hey all,

Finally back now. I spent a week in Texas and then had a few days to catch up with work before I had time to come back to the Secret Santa project.

Over the next few days I will be responding to everyone's sign-up with a confirmation email. Give me a day or two to catch up and if you do not receive a confirmation email, please let me know.

Again, if you wish to sign up, email me:
supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com
Supertopo name
Real Name
Shipping Address
Special considerations like allergies, no alcohol, international shipping, etc...

This was an interesting thread to go back over and it seems I missed a lot. Here's a few comments:

Hand Crafted Items:
Hand crafted? You betcha
Count me in and hand crafted rocks!!
i've been able to do this, when at first i thought i'd lack, as i didn't understand that we could make stuff, too, or buy
This is always the best part of the Secret Santa, all the hand crafted and thoughtful items that make their way to people. We have seen some amazing and beautiful gifts in the past few years and any/all effort for hand crafted inspiration is appreciated!

Anonymous Santa's:
I'm in!! I still feel bad that my Santa last year never self-identified
I try to encourage anyone and everyone to participate either publicly or anonymously. You might be surprised how many people have concerns over their privacy and have messaged me before they committed. I do my best to verify as a Supertopo user but there are no guarantees. And yet, to my knowledge, we have not yet had a thief just a few mis-deliveries and late arrivals.

International Secret Santa:
I'm in if Santa doesn't mind having a trip across the Atlantic.
Supertopo secret santa has no borders! Welcome to the pool.
Every year we have had a few international users and I have not yet turned anyone down. Everyone is welcome to play and I can always find someone willing to ship internationally. So come on and join in!

Happy Holidays!

I have for once signed up, but wish to emphasize the non-sectarian, non-religious nature of my participation. It is purely a "secret Yuletide gift exchange", managed by a benevolent elf. Naturally whatever I send will be timed so as to arrive on midwinter's day, the start of the traditional seasonal festival of northern peoples, before it was corrupted by all the religious/commercial crap. It may be delivered by reindeer, and hang in a fir tree - all are politically correct. It will not be accompanied by a corpulent person, an inebriated ungulate, grating carols, fatuous homilies, or other nonsense. However, simple, plain good wishes will surely be part of the package.

And thanks to the elf, for organizing this for the fourth or more year in a row!

No worries, MH. Kindly take it as a shot across the bow to stave off the negative vibes Fatty contributed last year, and my sincere apologies for nor not clueing in that you were playing nicely. :-)

Frankly I agree with you; it's just that the FattyGrinch kinda gave the thread a sour tone last year and it bugged me. That said I'm mostly a lurker, do take it as my overly-inflated $0.02.

Last year quite few people gave money to buy Strider a gift.
Some people sent a little, and some a lot. We collected quite a bit, and I believe we gave him a rope, one or two books, and a Dream Catcher.
The gift suggestions and money were sent to me, and then I ordered the stuff, and sent it to Strider.
I would like to do this again this year.
Please contact me off site if interested.

I was curious about the logistics, o illustrious elf! When you match givers and receivers, do you pair them, or is it some more complicated system? That is, do simply match A+B, C+D, and so on, with A giving to B and B giving to A? Or is it A gives to C, C gives to D, D gives to A, etc etc?

Keep it simple Brother Anders. I don't know what the system is; but my gift person, Tony Yeary, could not could not have been more coincidental. And Gals gifts were great.

Just going to have to go with the flow Bro.

Hello Again Everyone.

To be honest, this year I have been slacking. Ostensibly I will whine about work and how busy I am but I really should have stayed on top of confirmations and answering questions. Sorry about that.

As of this moment, everyone who has signed up should have a confirmation email sent to them.

The number of sign ups is down this year so I encourage everyone who hasn't signed up to get on it! There are only 5 days left to sign up!!!!

You nailed it with your second guess of: A gives to C, C gives to D, D gives to A, etc etc?

I assign everyone a # based on when they signed up. Then those numbers I enter into a random number generator to do the matching. I then massage it a little bit to accommodate special requests for privacy, security, international shipping, etc... I NEVER allow someone to choose their recipient for example but they can tell me who they do not want to be matched with because of privacy concerns.

This is what I have to give:

Lynn Hill. Ma Vie a la Verticale, Editions Guerin. Awesome photos, much better than in the original English version. Fine condition.

Patrick Edlinger and Gerard Kosicki. Rock Games. Escalades Aux USA. Arthaud. Very good/Very good+ condition.

"Multe"-berry jam, best Norwegian quality, Nora hjemmlaget multesyltetøy.

One freely chosen CD with Norwegian or Swedish music.

If you are interested - send me an e-mail no later than Friday 30.11. I will not answer the e-mail unless you are one of the winners in which case I will need your name and address. I will draw randomly. Everybody has got a chance.

Last year was my first year to participate. I recommend it highly.

My suggestion is to Focus on the Forum and the people who share our common interest in climbing which is what we love.

It's a crazy world out there during the holidays. Days that should be filled with peace and joy are overloaded with stress and tension. Plus the corporate buck $ shouts so loud to buy and spend we lose the Wonderfulness of the Season. Regain that fun and joy in the ST gift exchange cause here it's not about the gift.....it's about giving love and receiving it.

Ho, Ho, Ho, and Love, lynnie

don't have a window for i though, except perhaps the bathroom one...
might look nice into the backyard... :)

NOW--thanks to you, when i see them in windows, i know.

I'm sorry strangeday. Guess somethings up and I pray for you and wish you well. You could just make something or re gift a book you have or something. It's not the greatness of the gift we are looking for here, just the connection of one Taco person to another. Draw a picture.....write a poem. Just be involved. When life challenges ( if it is....i don't even know that it is for you.) don't pull away. Keep pulling the oars up stream. We're here on the Taco to cheer you on.....once again, I don't know you need cheering on. Just guessing from your post. Ciao, lynne

Thanks again for all the kind words... I knew I liked this place for a reason. I'll be just fine, and I'm still in a better position than most of the people in this world. The holidays are always kind of a rough time for me, and I guess this year is no different.

I would like to take this time to thank all of you for the gifts you have given me, although most of you wouldn't know it. As someone who rarely posts here, and is pretty much a serial lurker, I feel like I've gotten to know some of you through your posts, and have been able to learn from what each of you has to offer. It's heartening to see such a wide range of people come together and share in their common joy and passion. I came to the climbing game quite late, but one of the things that drew me too it wasn't so much a passion for the sport itself, but for the ability to be around people who are passionate about life. In all my travels, real life, or the Internet, climbers in general, and especially the group here, are as good a group as I've ever met or encountered. You all deserve a pat on the back.

May you and your loved ones have a wonderful and safe holiday!! Keep being awesome.

Hey folks!

Sorry for having been out of it. That storm that hit us in California two nights ago was a big one. A single lightning/thunder, louder than I have ever heard in my whole life, zapped the property here and fried numerous electronics. At last count we lost 5 network switches, 2 computers, 2 power supplies and two network cards. And our whole phone system is fried. You know those little green posts on the side of the road that the phone company's equipment is under? We found ours blown off the equipment, about 20 feet down the road. I have spent the past 36 hours fixing things as best I could before I could even check my own email. Yee Haw!

Having said that, the latest round of confirmations is done. So if you have not received one, let me now ASAP.

So here's a conundrum. When are the giftees supposed to open their gift, assuming that it arrives before December 25th? Especially those who aren't christians, or have other traditions? Bearing in mind that many of us have ADHD, or something not very different, how are we supposed to wait (patiently, or at all) for what could be a week or more? Would it be a victimless crime to open early? Is santa watching, and keeping notes for next year?

Perhaps the morals & ethics committee could chip in regarding this.

hey there say, mighy hiker, most folks go by that inner 'gut feeling' or that little nudge that 'it is time'...
so:
some have opened early, and some have not...

depending on a variety of things, not just 'not having the patience' or
'haveing too strong a curiosity'... :))

i usually open 'special stuff like this' on christmas eve,
as it is a bit like family 'sit and chat' time, though i have no
family around to do that with... *however, i seem to speak well to the ol' pupdog, cats and rat and bird, so i reckon i will share and chat about my gift, with them... and then, share on the taco, soon as i am up to dealing with the ol' computer, :)

so you'll know... :)
and you won't get 'banished' ;) if you open too early, :)

Mine is not in the mail yet...this weekend...shame on me, but since I hate to take responsibility I can say that the company sending it to me was late, because their supplier was delayed, because the parts for that supplier didn't come in time from China beccause the 50 cent an hour workers in China got snooty and slowed production because they wanted $0.55 an hour but the bosses were entrenched because Bain Capital needed to sell them for a profit because the Marriott Hotels wanted Romney on their Board of Directors. So there...it really is Romney's fault. Someone had to take this political....

As the organizer of this little event, I love seeing everyone debating and talking about the the inconsequential details involved, because it shows how much it means to everyone...

So here's a conundrum. When are the giftees supposed to open their gift, assuming that it arrives before December 25th?

As the guy who organized this, all I can say is: it doesn't matter!

As a normal person who isn't a part of this exchange (to me it doesn't feel right to participate when I am the one who organizes it) I have a quick allegory... My girlfriend can not stand having a gift in front of her and not open it. Something arrives for her and she wants to know what it is and will open it ASAP. To me that's perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with that.

On the opposite side is me, who will receive a gift and I will wait until the appointed time to open it, no matter how long that is. Last year I received a few gifts as the organizer (THANK YOU Zip and everyone who participated for making that happen!!!!) and they sat under my Christmas tree until Christmas before I opened them.

So when should you open the gift you received from this Secret Santa exchange? It is all up to you, there are no rules!

All that matters (to me) is that everyone enjoy the the spirit of the season and connect in some way with their fellow climbers.

Happy Holidays!!

sharing for the twelve days...

well, they COULD share a picture of the unopened box, if they like, too...

some of us did that, last year, that is fun too... and for the ones
that DID open, that was equally as fun....

dear seamstress... i just been reading about the 'bad' day :(
i am behind in the news...

find a quiet space when the memories of your conn. homeland feel well and then you will know it is time to open it... like a sign of prayers having moved over to the families of those in pain...

WELL now... me, i had been up all night doing little chores, i seem to work better then:

i JUST mailed my box off to the secret-santa-getter'er...
i can't pay much, so it went the SEVEN day way... it should get

I thought that i would throw this out there again.

I have had a few people respond, but not enough to buy Strider that timeshare in Hawaii.

Secret Santa paid me a visit today, and since I am the type who used to scour the house to find my gifts as a child, I just had to open it....

Neebee, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful painting and dreamcatcher!!
It's funny too, because the photo you used, I didn't even remember posting. I took that a few years ago on one of the first trips to Joshua tree with my wife. It was one of those really cold and windy days, and it seemed like we had the entire park to ourselves. Seeing the painting brought back wonderful memories from a really great time in our lives.
The dreamcatcher is also wonderfully timely. I used to have one over my bed that I got many years ago. I had it at each place I've lived, which is many, and unfortunately lost it in the last move. A few years ago we had to move back in with my parents, and are still here. I've put off on decorating our room, because I didn't want to feel to "permanent" here. When I was looking at your beautiful dreamcatcher you made, I looked up, and the screw in the wall from my old one was still there. No installation needed.
Thank you again for the lovely art, they will both hang proudly in our room, and I will cherish them every day I see them.

I opened my note and it read....the rattle is made of an elk rawhide head on a stick which I collected from a beaver dam showing toothmarks on the cut ends and around the stem where the bark was removed. The trim is beaver fur and deer leather. Inside the rattle is dried corn grown on an ancient native American site, a small quartz point, chips of jasper, amethyst and small stones collected from the roots of an upturned pine tree.

These rattles love to "sing" when sitting around a campfire with friends. Enjoy!

Did you know, Santa Edge, how much I love music and collect handmade instruments for campfires? Please come join us at Tioga Pass Resort in the Eastern Sierra where this rattle will be lovingly cherished and played.

Edge, the two spoons represent another great love in my life, cooking. I will take such good care of them!!! I love the Tiger Maple they are crafted from. The stripes in the wood are so unique. Even my grandkids were amazed that wood could do that. Thanks!!!

Lynne, I am so glad that you like the gifts! And the picture story you told: photos, captions, multiple posts, building anticipation; thats how to do it! You even had me wondering what it was...

The fun of this for me was doing some Christmas staulking (misspelling intentional) to figure out something special to give. I recognized your name from around the forum, but while checking out some of your old posts I realized I was giving to one of the Taco's own angels.

Several posts mentioned cooking, so the wooden spoons seemed appropriate. We use a similar one that I made almost every day.

I went out on a limb with the rattle. I had no idea if you were even musical, let alone collect small instruments, but I just had a hunch that you needed to have one. When I collect the stones and branches that I use, I rarely know who will be receiving them, but always know that they end up with just the right person.

Happy holidays everyone!

I just went to let the dogs outside, when Jasper alerted me to a foreign object on the porch.

It felt light for the box size, but the contents shifted with authority during the time honored shake test. Since we are flying out to Denver to spend Christmas with my daughter, I made the executive decision to honor my impulses and open it now. Besides, I was too excited; what would someone I don't know choose to send?

Wow, just wow! A brand new Kong Speleagle Hammer.

New compact stainless steel hammer specially designed for mountaineering, caving, rescue and equipping. It can be used to tighten 13 and 17mm nuts. Fitted with an ergonomic rubber handle and safety sling.

Gal wrote in her thoughtful note that she saw that I do FAs, and hoped that I would be inspired to do more with the hammer. Absolutely! My ancient Stubai has seen better days, and isn't nearly as compact and easy to carry/pack as this will be. And the yellow handle means that it won't get lost or misplaced in the leaves at the base.

The best gifts are the ones that even you yourself didn't know you need. Thank you Catherine for spreading the love Taco style! Happy holidays from the frozen North.

Daughter was a bit sick today, so let her help open my STSS gift before putting her to bed...

What beautiful paper!

Very nice card!

A climber holiday wreath adorned with green webbing, rap rings, Russian titanium pitons and a 3mm bow!!!

Now sitting at the proper spot at the top of the tree!

The card reads:

"Aric- Looking at your Supertopo posts, it seems like you've been good this year. Now, to the uninitiated eye, this looks like a basic Christmas wreath, but it has a myriad of possibilities. With a couple of biners, you could turn it into a slackline. With the Russian titanium pitons, webbing & rings you could have a bomber rappel anchor off the desperate alpine route of your choice. Or you could display it on your front door, letting all those who enter know your recreational proclivities. Your choice. From your ST Secret Santa, all the best in 2013!"

Thanks so much, Rockin' Gal! Will put this all to good use come spring! :-)

Hey Zander, here is my best attempt at an early apology limerick:

O boy I’m a secret santer!
To a climber nicknamed Zander
“the gift I will make!”
Oh no, now I’m late :(
Well now, my name you may slander

Hey Zander, I tried to pm you but I never got a reply so I’m not sure it got to you. So now my confession goes out to the whole community. Seeing your posts I think you’ve been climbing a while so I wanted to get you a gift that you didn’t already have – i.e., make it! Since I’d been traveling until today (I spent last night in an airport, it’s been a bit of an epic), I just finished it and will send it asap. So it might be late. So sorry! Bad santa! I hope the uniqueness at least in part makes up for it.

neebs-
I assumed you would pick up on the hint (winkie, winkie). Inside that box, one gift is wrapped, the other is not. Hence the "Do not open until xmass" labels. Just ran out of time for wrapping the other, but I think you will like it and find it worth the wait. Thanks to the pooch for keeping an eye on it.

Coincidently, when I got home this PM there was a box sitting on my porch with a sent addy label from Mountain Gear in Spokane. Hmm??? Being that none of my family would even know MG exists; I suspect this is my Super Santa gift. I'll wait till the 25th to open it.

But the BEST gift I could receive this xmass is my 83 year old Dad went into surgery this morning to put some stents in his arteries. Apparently the procedure went well. Like all father - son relationships we had some rocky times. It was very relieving to get the call that things went well.

Happy holidays to all.

Edit: neebs- feel free to open the big box whenever you want to receive the unwrapped gift, but wait until xmass morning to open the wrapped package.

hey there say, zip and lolli...

as to this:
My recipient received their gift on Monday, but no word here yet.
Guess they thought it sucked.

oh my, perhaps, not, be off good cheer, you gifts may still mean
more than you know...

remember, SOME folks may want to be annoymus, and you may
have gotten someone that would only like to be known
to you...so they don't share here...

or--they may not know the words to explain their feelings...
later, you may just get a thank you note...

or--they were not home and another memmber of family
took it in for them...

or they did not open it yet, and have not been on line for
the holiday...

:)

or for some reason, i is late...
:)

i used to fear, i had overstepped or done wrong, sometimes, with surprise
gifts, being that some folks may not be used to such things, so:
i learned this...

life is short and it is better to show we care, in whatever ways we can...
the day will come when folks will understand...

thus:
your recicant will always remember you cared to give from
your heart, this year, as to who you are, and what you'd like
someone to enjoy... you did your best, >:D<

christmas love, lives all year long... some gifts may not hit the mark
right away, but sure enoug, as time moves on, the gift
turns into a treasure in some way...

you both did well!

but back to he one basic thing first--holiday mail overload

I sent you an email letting you know this as I should have written it on my card, but did not think of it.

Guess they thought it sucked.

Now the gift I received is way cool and I needed it as well. I just gotta take a photo of it before I really brag about it.

Moms make the rules - but we don't have to live by them. My 20 year old baby has been home two days and is constantly asking about her presents. NO, you must wait till Christmas -

Unless you have been looking at it for days, and it came from your Secret Santa. Santa says I have been a very good girl this year - and the note in my gift box says so. I got a lot of booty. And I can tell that Santa cruised through some of my posts to see what I like.

I gave a favorable review to Petzl Attache biners and viola My husband is always trying to monopolize all of the attaches.

A thoughtful book for those of us that dwell north and have a lot of dark hours to fill

As I said earlier, you can never have enough chocolate.
And these gifts were wrapped in holiday placemats! That's better than recycling paper.

Moonlight was overcome by this wealth of treasures.

Thank-you very much!!!! Phyl is very generous and thoughtful.

Now I can't wait to see my person unwrap their gift!!!! No posts about it yet.

unexpectedly i
received an engagement proposition
from that blessed mary.

she posts here now and then,
though ya'll most likely haven't
read her stuff cause
they always occur in that little
gap between the prominent intents.

i didn't even thoroughly sign up for this exchange,
so i'm without a reciprocal jesture.

so i talked to my wife about this
gal, who happens to be a renown virgin,
that has asked for my other
hand in maiwage.

we dont know,
for i killed wisdom long ago,
so i guess i'll go down the aisle
once again.

now i need a beast man.
can i tempt some fine suitors with
promise of mary's virginity.
i got no use for that holy hole.

the date is set for december 25,
jesus will be in attendence
though i didn't invite that creep but mary insisted,
i chose the bald cap of lover's leap
for the locale.

the eagles 'll be there.
not the desperado type
but those perchers of absurd nests.

i'll bring beer
and toty's.

Ok.....it came.....
I picked up my mail after being away...and what did I find?.... 3 possibilities!

So here we go, is it behind door 1, 2 or 3.

So we begin the process

Well now it's been narrowed down. One padded envelope had a lovely note from Nita and Andy with some of my favorite salty licorice from Lolli, thanks Andy and Nita for sending it to me; the next padded envelope was the CD of my most recent CT scan; good news there, everything inside working just right; and voila! The BIG box....yes that must be it....

THERE IT IS. A lovely and festive handmade clay sculpture! It is moving to my mantel....yes a lovely piece...

And WTF!!!!!!! My Secret Santa is choosing to remain secret....shame on me for such language...but guess what....I've got an address and I'm up there a lot for skiing at Kirkwood, so watch out for that knock on yer door! You never know...thank you Secret Santa...and if I ever need breakables packaged I've clearly learned from the best...plus someone likes Target!...those bags make excellent packaging!

hey there, say, .... bump for the christmas thread...

my grandchild is my helper this year...

the other christmas's i was able to go to their family party-visit
(the mom has a large family, and the dad has some here, but the
rest are in south texas)...

well, this year they are divorced suddenly as of summer...
the mom is still in town, as is the dad (at their old house) but:
the mom is too far away gas-wise to get there... and, for the
eve it is too dark for me to see well in that long stretch, home...

most likely i was spending the time alone--but sweet grandbabe
surprised me...

we will share our joy here, soon as the
computer dail up settles down:

typeing is just hard write now--but i got this into in:

and ONE PICTURE... we are putting the rest very soon john--
you ol' secret santa you!!!
(she's seen the secret santa gifts, the last two year, but
never got to help open them--this is a treat for bother
her and me! usualy on the eve, when i open them, i am alone)

:) god 'sent her my way' (when her mom went shopping)...

well, here we go, PART ONE:

now, there is neat little story that follows, as:
she did not really understand this simple yet
richly 'down to earth' gift... :)

more to follow when the computer settles down... :)

edit:
her face is priceless--she lovesssssss opening gifts AND
making them... that i why the story is so sweet...

and of course, as johntp said, there is ONE MORE!!!!!

hey there say, all...

wow, and oh my... the co-incidence of my secret santa, being the one that helped play a part in me, painting again, is 'much more than that'...

here is the secret santa adventure, along with my granddaughter, helping...

all at first, started early and then progressed, as he said 'open box'
and patty ann marie had to step aside, :)

hey there say, secret santa, johntp!

well, here we go! my granddaughter did not, of course, understand the humor of wonderful climber-gal, tami--so the t-shirt prompted her to want to open the wrapped gift! child that she is...

so, we later moved into 'open wrapped gift mode' which she was really ready for --and this made her day, and needless to say, it made my day, or EVE actually!! as, i keep wanting to cry!

yep,it was OIL PAINTS, and all the proper colors!

john!!!
thank you so very VERY much! i do not have words to thank you...
(will send an email, very soon)...

the biggest reason as to the 'made me cry' as to this gift, this year, is as you all know:
god have opened the door for me to paint, after TWENTY YEARS of
being dormant, and actually thinking i'd never do it again...

(i also talked with the granddaughter on all this, and she's heard some of it, before,
as to how god opened the door, so now, she got to see more of the 'same gift' in actions, before her own eyes!) this was amazing to see happen, and to see her studyig all this... THUS:

THIS is a gift that will keep on blessing the whole taco, and other folks in my life, around here, as well, being that i put this artwork out for whoever is on my heart,as to sending good cheer!
*i DO try to put folks that might be feeling sad, FIRST...
and then, i send out stuff for the HAPPY occasions! :)

(i've got TWO 'HAPPY'S' ready, soon, to send... i will surely not run out of paint!!)

this was so perfect, and only the good lord KNEW you'd be the
secret santa this year--what a surprise 'miracle' as to the paint!

now back to the WONDERFUL tami art!--
the good sweet thing about the granddaughter opening the tami-t-shirt is this, it promted a climber-adventure talk, :) (edited there)...

we had a little talk about climber humor and i used ekat's
'how does the rope get up there, anyway' BOOK...
edit: and she learned a lot about what goes on up on thosse rocks :)
:))

and, i shared all the wonderful things i've leaned about tami!! and this whole gift has become double precious! ... :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!, john, it will make a great pajama shirt
and thus, every night, tami will be dear in my heart,
like a SISTER and woman of like-hearted 'love to others!'
and thus close by, when i pray!

thank you with all my heart, dear ol' santa!...

wow, thank you strider, supertopo-santa-set-up-guy!
i have precious memories from buddies, here...

i now have precious memories, from the first year:
a lovely handmade wood cutting board from zander, that christened my
move to this bigger house, and in a deep special way--i HAD room to cook!
and my house was now a home, as his home-felt gift, adorned it.. .
BEFORE, i was living with most stuff in boxes, though the kitchen was okay ,
just far to small to use such thing...

then, the second year--i have lolli's lovely lights and the story and tradition behind them,
and a 'sis' out there across the ocean!...

and now, third year, i have the continued means to reach out to folks by paint, for a taco buddy!! and one who was part of the 'start up' that god gave me in the first place.. all back to the days of the todd gordon fundraiser!

will wonders never cease!
i hope NOT... may the wonders continue on up into our old age!

we need such wonders as by then, we kind of wonder if we're
holding up our end of the ol' trail, and now:
i know i will have!

happy sweet christmas to you all...

AND yes, i have rambled... but these gifts have all been
a real healing of some pretty hard times, that have only these last
two years, been broken down into feeding the new crop of
really being alive again!

HAPPY sweet nice christmas time to you all, and
god bless the new year to be a good solid and stable one,
with many a smiles as well... :)

edit:
usually i am alone when i open these...
this was extra special this time, with her here...
she's my little 'moral support' gal, :)
and loves to learn all that i have to share...
hard to find that, these days... :)

EDIT:
JOHN, oh john, you did SUPER!!!! can't stop laughing,
granddaughter wants to meet tami now!!!

for this 'extra' i am having more and more smiles!
and all from your prompt to "open the box" :))
and all due to a sweet-thought, of a tami climber shirt,

oh my.... >:D

Howdy folks. Sorry for being out of touch, I have been working hard for the Holiday season and just got over a wicked virus that laid me up for a couple days.

It seems this year was a pretty tough year for presents. Right now I know of about 6 people who have not received their gifts.

It appears a few of these gifts are in the mail and a few are MIA. I have sent emails out inquiring about them and will let everyone know what is going on as soon as I know.

If you have not emailed me or posted here about not getting your gift please let me know so i can find out whats going on.

I am sorry for the trouble folks, it seem this year was a tough year for gifts to arrive on time. But with a little luck everything will arrive safe and sound.

Merry Christmas everyone and I love seeing all the creative and fun gifts. This is an amazing group of people here!

So, there were a total of 6 people with missing packages. 5 of whom I have spoken with their Santa's and found out what is going on. All of it seems to be shipping delays and/or life complications preventing timely delivery.

The one person I have yet to hear from I will not forget about. The giftee was sent an email this afternoon stating as much so they know who they are.

If anyone has not gotten a gift and has not spoken with me about it, please, please, please get a hold of me so I can help!

hey there say, nick... very well done...

all in all, too, considering the vast amounts of mail,
6 is not so bad as to a holiday season...

two of which are over seas, so four, is even less
not so bad...

odd things, sometimes: like my cards...
all sent over seas, and most were delivered in the 1-2 time frame for letters? i think it is...

and only one or two? took about 25 days... :)

Thank you, Lynne. This was truly one of those occasions where I felt blessed to give back to a fellow Tacoan.

And a BIG thank you to Gal for her generous and perfect gift, and to Stryder for his efforts in putting this together. Happy New Year to everyone who makes this forum what it is.

Some close-ups of treats from Abend.
Game and book. I haven't tried the game, yet. The book is apparently based on something on television - hopefully that doesn't mean I'll have to buy a TV?!
A new CD, with 40 (!) songs on it. Plus a note saying "jstan rocks!".
A rather dashing beanie baby, who is apparently named Groovey. In his left ear, some rather unusual ornaments, which bear close examination.

Thanks to Strider for all the organizing!

Ok after finally learning that the usps guy wasn't delivering packages over the holidays I tracked down my awesome gift from Naitch! Thanks I can't wait to start using them. I can't help but wonder what the upstairs neighbor thinks. Every time I do a pull up the wall mount squeaks. He must think I have a very regimented nightly routine. 100 pumps and I'm done.

Thanks again the grips are awesome. I guess upside down sticker counts as a cosmetic second...

hey there say, lolli...

you can stretch them out on frames, for artwork...

or of course if too big,but not much, use over shirts or for
pajama tops, etc...

you can also make them into nice little soft packpacks...

or make them into pillows...

or take them in on the seam, if they are too big...
if too small, i know that's not the answer, :)

if too small, perhaps make them into placemat type pads for the
supper with climbers, :)
or pot holders, just insulate them...

not sure what else... others may have some neat ideas, :)

can't see them yet, due to dail up...
:)

*edit:
just saw them... art work would be nice, for the pink ones!

and then:
i like the camp 4, just as it is...
just 'toss it down' and use it for just about anything...
:)

very fun 'sign' as to just 'basic versitility :)

N B,

"say, how is zip, doing...?"

I'm fine, thanks for asking. And you?

Recovering from a bad Internet date last night. Met on Iammuchbetterlookingwhenyouaredrunk.com.
I was expecting a hot chic, but it turned out to be a dude.
I had non refundable tickets for the accordion festival, so I still went on the date.
He was nice, but a little rough around the edges.

Still no gift from my SS, but I am sure it will arrive any day now.

Oh Andy that is a bummer-and you really hooked me up amazingly, I was thrilled/so excited when I opened my Secret Santa package... I hope your gift is on the way!

....sorry for the delays in posting, but, here is the AWESOME gift that I got from Andy (from across the pond in the UK)-I absolutely LOVE it, and wanted to make sure to give it a proper presentation...

This is a signed print by an artist friend of Andy's, Anya Simmons. She had offered to paint a picture of their choosing, and they selected a painting of the millstones around Stanage Edge in the Peak District. This is one of only 20 additional prints she did, signed by her (www.anyasimmons.co.uk). So amazing & beautiful... Millstones were used for grinding wheat and other grains-as modern technology took over, some were still half carved, left where they were. This is a climbing area where Andy climbs regularly... I so hope i get a chance to visit the UK and climb there... here is a description of the area...

"The finest of the gritstone edges and by quite a margin, with over 4km of exposed rock, in a setting of unrivaled grandeur. Stanage has to be the most popular climbing destination in the country,... The cliff has routes of every grade from the easiest of rambling chimney climbs to routes at the very limit of human ability... enough here to keep most climbers busy for at least half a lifetime...

here's a pic of Andy climbing there, to get an idea of it-

Thanks so much Andy, your gift was very much a thrill and above & beyond-love my new artwork!!!!!! It's so cool too, because I have several artist friends who I have been lucky enough to get signed artwork from, so to have this beautiful piece added to the mix is really stellar-it fit's in so perfectly, it will always hang on my walls. Secret Santa is a great thing for the holidays, thank you Strider for getting us all together like this. I've met such cool people, Harrison last year, Fogarty (thank you for last year!), and this year Andy & Edge!

I really hope I get to climb in Stanage Edge sometime (and it really could be possible, my family wants to get back to the UK). I've always wondered and wanted to try gritstone. Thank you so much Andy-cheers!!

Well, well, well....

It seems there were a few hiccups but I believe with one exception, everyone has received their gift, yes? If you have not received your gift please, please, please let me know. This is not the kind of thing you should just accept and move on. We are all friends here and while we can make allowances for the complications of life, that is no excuse for no gift.

Again, as always, I am sorry for the delayed catch up on my part. I have been on a climbing road trip to Joshua Tree and am now in Texas poaching a friends Internet. And after this I am in Hawaii for 17 days with very limited Internet access. I will be back home on feb 7th and will definitely be able to catch up with any possible remaining problems then.

Andy, I sent you an email but I also want to say here that you do have a gift but it is the type of gift that takes time to arrive. The good news is that it is a gift that keeps on giving, for 6 to 12 months at least. If you would like to know I can tell you, otherwise, hopefully the first week of February it will arrive. Please keep me updated if/when it does arrive so we can make sure the across the pond shipping is working as it should.

To everyone, thank you so much for participating. I believe for the most part it was another successful year. I am honored to be a part of this and love giving back with my time in some small way to everyone who spends so much time making this place a great spot for climbers on the Internet. One of these years we will have to get C-Mac or sign up and play!

Happy New Year to everyone and I hope your year is filled with many climbing adventures!
