I have been on the road for a couple weeks now, but my first stop was cal dome, saw only one climbing party the three day we were climbing at cal dome, beautiful and fun place to climb, but the other camper that were there sure left a lot of trash all around, and the thing that make me think, really really come on people :-( was people have been skeet shooting off the top of cal dome, walking to the base of totally buzzed pinnacle you can find shot gun shells all over and pieces of clay pijeons all over the ground as well, it make me super sad that people would trash such a beautiful place, but besides all of the trash i had a awesome time at cal dome, happy climbing mike a.

Ellis Road is passable for a four wheel or high clearance vehicle, but the washout is not actually repaired yet (Sept. 2012). Otherwise suggest the slightly longer but more high speed (quicker) approach- continue up 88 to Bear River reservoir, cross the dam and the ridge across the way (Forest road 8n40), then take right on 8N16, down to the domes!

Cool shots mikea, I was almost disappointed, until I saw your signature beer in one hand wave with other picture. You always look like you are having tons of fun. That's good.

the road can be past with any can, yes it is open one line, but it's ok with any car, stair case crack is at the dirt road before the bridge before the big boulder camp site. go up the dirt road until the road ends at the aquaduct on the left follow creek up hill, park and follow the aquaduct on the south side "left" side walk 150 yards to the stair case, crack on left, anchors on top of stairs, hope that helps.

Cal Domes is freakin rad. The sheer difficulty and/or severity of the majority of it's routes will always keep the crowds down. The camping is free, abundant and quiet if one knows where to go.
Some of the burliest, most sustained routes in Cali lie here.
Some photos to keep the stoke up.
On the Karakorum Highway. A 7 pitch extension to silk road boasting 3 pitches of hard 5.11, and two pitches of sustained 5.10+ offwidth bringing Silk Road to 16 pitches if you link everything you can. This extension puts this already classic route into the world class category.
5.11 stemming pitch of Silk Road
The never ending dihedral of Laughing Hyena 5.11c/d. No moves are harder than 5.11, but no moves are easier than 5.10d on this 180ft pitch.
Working our way up the Rainbow Arch. A very physical 3 pitch 5.10d full of fist cracks, tips liebacks, and bombay offwidths... all of it overhanging.
The "Kick Out" move on Tsunami.

I ran an aventure race a few years back - one leg of which required us to ju ju up Cal Dome and rap back down (at night, in our case) in that canned adventure AR style.
I'd never heard of the place, and thought WTF, THIS THING IS AMAZING.
What was not amazing was the bushwhacking in the surrounding area. Wow, California. Those acacia. No need to even mention manzanita. Respect.
Someday, I'm gonna go play around on that thing.
