Note the direction from 395, and you'll figure out how Tioga pass can be open while 120 is closed...

Oh, my bad. Quote: "26.5 MI EAST OF THE JCT OF US 395", I missed the numbers. Thanks.

The road has been open to bicycles for a week or so. We rode to Olmstead yesterday, saw maybe 20-30 other cyclists, and one sorry skier who'd come over from Ostrander and was hoping he could hitchhike when he got to Tuolumne.
Anyway, approaches through forested land - Fairview, Drug, Mariolumne, and Medlicott, Whiz - all looked miserable because of the copious foot deep slushy blobs of snow that are hanging around in the trees. The snow is melting fast, so those approaches will shape up in a week or two. Stately P., Harlequin, Lembert, Daff, and Pywiack all looked climbable and dry on the approach. Medlicott had lots of water running down it. Crescent Arch is wet. Crescent ledge on the Regular Route has a snow bank on it and the route is wet.
Lots of trees blown down near the Mono Pass trailhead.
That bike ride is a blast! I'd never done it before.

But is Tioga Pass Resort open yet? Or is Lee Vining the only close place with restaurants?

Hey Bruce! TPR wasn't open, but a couple of guys were shoveling snow, so they are getting ready.

Tr- you should go give the new gear a try this weekend. The snow won't last long, but there is enough to have fun on.

Really cool time to paddle a kayak around the T. Lake right now. I love shoving slush and ice chunks around and feeling the feeling that a new season is opening up. Nope, didn't do it this year :(
Yeah my summer is almost here.

Hey Bob. I found this ride up to the pass! No brakes and no nuts holding the front wheel on, but in my long underwear on this baby I fit right in with you guys. Made it up to the pass in about an hour!
Returned it in the afternoon when I picked up my gear.

the Merced, Clark and Cathedral Ranges were the smoothest, most consistant, corn I've skied in years. All aspects, all day. From the time I left Tioga, out to the Clark Range and back via the Cathedral Range, in 7 days I only had to remove skis a couple of times for lack of snow. Triple Divide, Foerster, Electra, Lyell all skiable from the summits (or very near) as well as Mt Ansel Adams couloir. Many more sport skis I didn't get to.

Nice John! Looks like a marmot had a go at the seat of that beauty. Did you ride from the pass down to the big turnout with no brakes? Considering our relative fitness levels, I'm surprised you didn't pass me.
Skiing looks OK too...

That bike belongs to one of the housing managers, it gets plenty of use all season long, I'm sure he would be glad to know someone got use out of it this early in the season!

Altesky Chute (climber's right of Unicorn Saddle) was in great shape this late morning. Unicorn Saddle itself looks decent but has a lot or rocks showing further down, still ski-able though.
Hoping to hit the eastern chute of Hoffman later this week. Any skiers got beta?

It's amazing how fast those high country lakes clear up once they start to go. It was maybe 80% covered on Sunday.

Sure. With the only exception - bicyclists wearing Da Brim™ on their helmets could ride wherever they want without restrictions.
