I'm gonna reel it in and actually get serious, hope it's not too much of a faux pas on a thread like this...
I was first directed to supertopo during the Growing Up/SFHD thread. I was immediately sucked in by the presence of legends, history, and yes, tire fires.
I had never even checked out online forums before.
I started lurking around. I passed by the political shît and clicked on a thread titled "This is a climbing thread" or something like that.
It was far from it. Page after page of perfect butts, boobs, and bodies helped break the monotony of the GU and Obama threads.
I checked it daily {{-;
Then one day it was gone.
Apparently that guy locker had taken it a bit too far and gotten 86'd.
Then I witnessed something pretty fûcking cool.
The community, yes community, rallied for him to be let back in.
Locker apologized sincerely, revealing struggles he'd been experiencing in his personal life. He expressed his gratitude and with his classic self deprecating sense of humor titled himself the "Villiage Idiot".
I liked this guy.
Although he didn't include a Jolly Rancher with his resoles like Jules used to, i liked that he did dirty work for us climbers.
I liked that he loved Josh. I liked that he posted pictures of him roasting, at Josh(two great tastes that go great together).
I liked that he didn't take it all to seriously.
Soon he was back to his old shenannigans of posting epic lingerie shots, thank god.
So Locker,
Thanks bro, it was you- your meltdown/comeback, herb smoking, humor- that really enamored me to supertopo.
There will always be big names and legends but it's the everyday weirdos in climbing that make our "tribe" so rich.
Here's to locker!

One day I ended up in this place with a cover band-they said request ANY song you want, we can play them all-so the above was the Jimi song I requested-... and yes they stumbled a bit, stopped started stopped, and finally concluded it was too difficult and they couldn't play it. Jimi was a master musician-from his guitar skills (maybe the best), to his lyrics...

The other side of that coin is if a dimwit gets deleted and all his content is still in the mix... then we would be hearing about how the board lords are "holding my thoughts hostage!!!!" The ST management is showing that they do not own the content... if you want your vagina palm pics and all your posts gone, that can be done. Sure it f*#ks stuff up pretty good, but in the two cases you referenced, them dudes wanted all traces of them removed.
Something like LEB is another story... I think she just got whacked along with all her content.

(Not like there was any resistance, just that Chris is a busy guy and it didn't happen immediately)

Hard to keep up with things here, so I imagine that Locker either got banned or banned himself or something like that . . .
He had very poorly formed political views, and was a a bit of an ignoramus and all around "jackass" in the words of noted pundit Sean Hannity.
Nevertheless, I believe he was a pretty GUD guy, had his comedic moments, and imagine I'd enjoy saying hello in real life and climbing some 5.1's.

I had heard that he actually did not intend to post the pics that got him banned... someone sent him some photo ID numbers, unannounced, with no description of the pictures they were linked to. The only way to see the pictures was to post the numbers and then the pictures would pop up.
He posted the numbers, using the correct ST format to view, the pics popped up, and there was a cop behind a billboard on the lonely road that leads to banning. Lights and siren braj... RIP

Yea I expect a dose of that might have helped those guys not get banned, if that was something that they were interested in doing.
The problem I think is that it’s a public forum, and we’d like it to be a private forum for just me and my friends and people I approve of and can forgive for being a monkey-brained human. We think that we’re evaluating it with an objective open minded offense-detector, when really we’re tipping the scales in favor of people with whom we identify as part of our tribe.
Working it out in public leads to some pretty f*#ked up sh#t. Just look who’s in the White House!

Yea we’ve all got our sh#t to deal with.
Part of my sh#t is that I have a kid on the autism spectrum who’s also bipolar who’s currently not doing all that great, and since the last time he broke down he ended up in a psychotic episode that landed him in protective custody and a psych hospital for a month, that’s kind of tweaking me. But my part in it is a lot easier than his.
For locker, I wish him well, he seems like a good sort, and if what he’s dealing with is needing to take a break from this forum so he can reorganize his brain or his posts to stay in good standing in this society, more power to him.
And sure, somebody, anybody, whatever they’re going through, whatever the reasons are that they’re behaving the way they do ... I think if we can try to handle it with a little more good humor, with a little help from folks like locker, the better off we’ll be.

I'm fine with people that leave or get kicked off Supertopo. What I don't understand is the removal of all of the posts by a person. It really fubars all the topics they have been involved with and in my opinion it messes up the history that is stored on the site. It seems so selfish and petty (taking my toys and going home because I can).
It's also sad that past threads are also missing photos as well. Photobucket ..... and others..
Why is it allowed? Can someone explain it to me? If it has to do with owning content couldn't it be a sign off so the poster allows it to be stored on the site but not allowed to be used by Supertopo for other uses?
