long story short: dateline: 1985.

me and brents "swole" hawks are feeling the mojo and decide to fire off the south face of the column in a day. never mind neither of us has done much climbing all winter and are about as fit as a couple of dartmouth frat boys after a four-week gin and juice binge. we saddle up and i lead pitch one. brents launches up pitch two, gets off route, gets waaaay above his gear, and gets pitched off into deep mussy nebspace with a terrified yelp.

sitting on the belay ledge, one hand on the cord, the other fumbling trying to light my smoke, i notice mounds of slack rope piling up all around me on the ledge as brents begins his epic gravity launch. i drop the smoke and lock both hands onto the stitch while seconds tick off with all the fleet alacrity of molasses. finally the cordage that's been stacking up around me start to reel out again with a horrific whipping sound, the rope comes taunt, and suddenly i'm suspended in midair between the anchors and the belay plate, rope stretched tighter than my wife's wallet at a single-malt bar.

brents makes his way back to the ledge, rattled but still looking hale. i suggest that we eat our stash of, um, "provisions" and repair to jojo, then hightail it to the mrb. no arguments from brents. we ecstatically downed our rations, washed to the gullet with warm OE, and punched out over to jojo just as the exlixer was taking effect. brents managed to snap of one quick, poorly framed and out-of-focus pic....

a few hours later we're heading into the bar when we get corraled by brooke and wason as we're making for the door. they give us the once over, trade a quick glance, and wason says: "so, did you guys save any for us??"

just another spring day in the valley, back in the day.

Excellent of you to drop in!

Easiest way to post an image is to upload it to Photobucket.com (you'll have to set up a free account). Once the image is loaded, copy the whole code from the box labelled "image" at the bottom of the picture. This includes the code that works with this board, which you can then examine so you can use it to post images from other places that don't set you up with a coded image location to paste. I tried typing the code here, but of course it tries to treat it like an image.

feel free to email me if you need more info.

Hey Roy, BVB don't let this go down too far. Roy Boy, forget your tendonitis', maybe Lisa can do the dirty work for you and start the scanning and posting. I would anticipate you have some material after the trip to Mussyville.
Happy Easter to all!

Ron, most everyone who was "keepin the magic alive" was at the party last night. I would imagine there will be lots of stories and photos comin down the pike soon enough. For the rest of you punters who found other places to be, I can only say you missed one of the best climber fete's money can't buy.

Where the hell were you Ron, I was expecting to see you there. The wife is NOT a good excuse.

The ermine coat was displayed in public again! Wonder what happens with that coat in private?

Hey BVB all is true about the gigantic whip on the collum, but I was in never never land (I know it's hard to get lost on that route but i.e. the name teton hack). The only part you left out was that after consuming the provisions and rapping down, we then followed a rattlesnake around for some time before continuing on.

ay me laddie, we downed massive loads of twilly's finest, poked sticks at the rattler, fired jojo, bumped even more massivley as we hiked out, and were coming into fill blaze effect as we headed for the MRB when we were intercepted by brooke and wason who took one look and knew we here holdin'.

'85 was a very, very good year...
