I'm surprised no one has commented about the big glass balls !?!@! Dude those things must be heavy. Not to drift too far from the OP. I hope Andy gets all the kudos he deserves, seriously!

So WTF does this circus act have to do with climbing? I'm confused.

i always thought slacklining was a corrolary to climbing because of the balance , focus , and keeping your head cool when gravity wants you to fall ...

So why aren't we following competitive unicycling or juggling? Same requirements, just as clownish.

I bet if someone in the climbing community was in the superbowl halftime show for juggling or unicycling, we'd hear about it....seems quiet likely.

So why aren't we following competitive unicycling or juggling?

You have to focus really hard to do anything at your limit. There are an arbitrary number of ways to challenge yourself. You can do it stoned. You can do it outside. You can do it with your friends. You can make it risky. You can do it in exposed places.

Now do you know why we're talking about it?

I'm not dissing slackliners, they are skilled showpeople, just like circus clowns, fire eaters, trapeze artists, and lion tamers. Just wondering what it has to do with climbing (hint: nothing).

I'm all for anybody getting a nice paycheck, and if they so desire the broadest exposure possible via TV.

Just find it comical that a clownshow act is so tied to climbing to the point it shows up in some form on every climbing video of recent vintange. Someone said "has slacklining finally arrived", and I think "has this clownshow finally jumped the shark" is a more appropriate question.

I mean, clownshow wire walking at big sporting events isn't exactly a new phenomena, witness Karl Wallenda opening day at the Vet in Philly back in '72:

Now do you know why we're talking about it?

Nope. Utterly bewildered.

I wasn't going to post again, but...Once, I had a young patient, he went vasovagal, lost bladder control. I made sure he was o.k., then went to talk to the Dr. next door. I asked, "Urine is sterile right?". He replied, "Sure, people drink it all the time!". I got some things, and went to clean up. Later, the doctor explained that his daughter also became anxious in similar situations.

Sorry to piss all over this thread. Also, please don't get me started about the diabetes epidemic. Finally, maybe something back on topic as appeasement.

And Wes, I hope this naturally gets you back up on your good foot.

It's always amusing when people spout off about their opinions about what is cool like it's a fact.

What type of climbing you think is best is personal opinion. A boulderer only interested in the hardest moves humanly possible thinks big walls are lame. A big wall climber thinks bouldering is lame. It's entirely subjective and you just make yourself look like a fool (in my eyes) when you don't get that.

Slacklining has a lot to do with climbing. Climbers created it, in Yosemite, with climbing gear. Highlines often use climbing anchors and climbing locations. Of course there's a lot of crossover.

When people complain about how lame something is it's a safe bet they aren't any good at it.
