C'mon, doesn't everyone use quickdraws like that?
The wakeboard and jumar setup at the end is an interesting idea.

That's all shot right here around in the Gorge. The rope jump is off a bridge into the Klickatat River. I never thought anyone who did that bungee jump thing with climbing ropes was any too smart.

Um... and he couldn't just... tie the rope directly to the bridge? He clearly knows a bowline with a nifty fig-8 backup.
OMG EDIT: I love the nifty knot... clipped to a non-locker...clipped to the harness.

Thanks for the pics. I thought I saw him clip in with a single non-locker. JEEEZus. Then the very close margin for error on the swing. Just a couple of feet to one side and his head is burger on that platform next to the water, not to mention the rocks. Not too bright, that one. Let's hope he continues to get lucky and stops teaching!
Reminds me of the time some friends and I observed an "experienced" climber teaching some buddies how to rappel with a single, non-locking 'biner. After a while, we couldn't take it anymore and went over to offer, as gently as we could, that a locker or two biners with reversed gates would be a better idea. As expected, Mr. Bonehead got offended and blew us off because he "knew what[he]was doing." Tell that to Tom Patey--RIP.

Yeah he was good no doubt.
Did he really tie in without a locker?
Did he really use just those quick draws for the anchor?

I think the rope to the wiregate is not his tie in, though it might have been on that jump. In other jumps it appears the attachment is at the back of his harness. Notice that the jumps start high and gradually get closer to the water, so he is experimenting and adjusting as he repeats the jump.
Pretty weird anchor, and it seems like the rope must be going up and over the railing. Don't see any padding. Hmmm. Rope is attached on one side of the bridge, hanging below and back up to the jumper on the other side of the bridge. Can't tell if it is over the railing or not.
Look at an enlargement at 3:14 Two ropes with a single wired gate on each. Pretty wild.

Yeah he was good no doubt.
Did he really tie in without a locker?
Did he really use just those quick draws for the anchor?
- This could all be taken on faith alone and without any further evidence...
I see nothing wrong with this guys decisions:
Quickdraws for anchors - specially when they are doubled up.
No locking biner is ever really needed - specially when a good knot.

Didn't watch the whole ski video, but it looked like they were mostly hucking big falls, then crashing.
Has that what it's come to? Seems like the goal would be more to land it than to pull off some wild spin during the huck.

deuce - Depends what form of skiing you're talking about. Park skiers, especially those that compete and end up in videos, are very much all about landing and riding away clean.
Wilson is out there having fun and just going balls to the wall. Frequently that means he doesn't ride away. However I'd invite anyone to stand on top of the Palisades or Fingers (Squaw) and contemplating hucking a double back over them. It's not something I'd say a lot of skiers have in them. Just another way to have fun on the slopes.
Anyway, I think Wilson has quite a quiver of tricks he can land given a straight forward park jump, or a more straight forward cliff (if there is such a thing), but I think he'd rather push it and see what he can get away with. Entertaining either way, if you ask me.

This might be a better option for his harness. Just one is needed.
Then tie the rope into it. It has 15 kN strength in all directions. So it's above 10 to 1 safety factor.
It should be tied in with a long tailed bowline or butterfly and the tail to the waist part of the harness for redundancy.
But then again whatever, ... clip in with a safety pin or a paper clip if that's what turns you on ....

Every red blooded adventurer goes through a period of reckless abandon, to push the limits. That's all good, I hope he survives (some folks with whom I've shared that kind of activity didn't) The issue is more about going all out to make viral videos that highlight crap rigging practices. That's f*#king uncool.
