I saw them early 90s with Green Day and Neil Young. Was there for Social D and GD and sort of decided to tolerate Young--I was all like whatev on the old man look at my life crap--but then he totally rocked. Great show.

Ball and Chain. One of the best songs EVAR! When they released their first LP, all I could compare it too was The Clash.

I saw them in the very early 80's a couple of times, and then again in the early 90's have yet to see them this century. Thier first EP is one of my favorites.

I saw them a year ago in Reno. Everybody is getting older, the band and the fans, but the music is all the same.

It was great. Go see them if you can.

Years ago, social D was selling out the HOB Anaheim for a month straight.
Then Mike Ness kicked the guy in the face on stage.
They were barred for a little while.....

Always a fun show, always.
They never seem to change, if they did there would be a riot!!

Jefe,

Mike and I came close one night at Big Johns pool hall in Placentia. it was just one of those things where two guys just look at each other wrong. mutual friends kept us apart and neither one of us really wanted to anyway. we eventually became decent acquaintances but never friends.

They are one of my top five bands, especially, Mommy's little monster album

I first heard this song on an old Thrasher album compilation. I was hooked. I've only seem them twice in the last decade. Always a great show.

Long before Jonny Wickersham joined SD he was a teenage local in Mammoth. He played along a few times with a pick-up punk band that practiced at my house in Bishop. A great guitarist and a great guy who went all out in everything he did. He got locked up for awhile at the Mono County juvie when it was out at Whitmore where the animal shelter is now. The crime was slashing tires. Not one or two or even three or four but something like 30 or 40. He got fed up with whatever one night during ski season and just kept slashing until his hand hurt so much he had to stop. That was Jonny.

I've seen Social D a bunch of times, all in Orange County.

The band literally had a month+ residency at the HOB, the House of Mouse, at Disneyland.

The HOB face kick incident was towards the end of the Bush Regime and Mike Ness was very outspoken about his distaste for the wars and Bush.
A dude in the front of the crowd was talking back to Mike, so Mike invited him onstage to say what he had to say because "This is the United States, man, everybody should be heard." or something like that.
Well, the guy got on stage, was handed the mike, and said "If you say one more bad thing about our president, I'll kick your fuucking ass".
No sooner than "ass" left his mouth, Mike gave him a full karate kick to the head! Crazy!

Once Mike was the only original member of the band left, I think they got better.
It finally WAS *HIS* band, something I think he always wanted since the early days. Watch "Another State of Mind" for insight.

The last time I saw Mike Ness was at a fundraiser for my surfboard shaper, Midget, in San Clemente. Just Mike and Johnny Two-Bags acoustic, very small room, very cool.

Best song I think I ever saw was the debut of "Bakersfield".
Just Mike on a chair with his gold Less Paul, telling the story of breaking down close to home after a long tour. Still love that song.

Great story. Mike was always a scrapper, never one to stand around and talk about it.

I wish I could easily do links with my smart phone but its a piece of crap. Reach for Sky is one of their better newer songs in my opinion. it is the story of my life and gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.

by the way Jefe, that sounded like a great show.
