That's Gordo as MC, with hair. And Watusi on the right, still standing.. :)

Yep Tar-Bido, it's Shawn and MP on the right with Dave Paul at the front of the shot. The blonde behind Shawn was his g/f at the time.

Ksolem, nope the Gorde-deluxe isn't in the shot. But you are right in that the three caberllos are all Chuck's siblings, don't remember their names right off.

Werner, nope the two guys in with the dogs are MP's brother Danny Paul(left) and Brad Fuchet.

Watusi--Think. Remember. I gave you a B (just one of several occasions) on Test-tube right after my climbing partner and I finished on Crucible and you tied-in with a bowline on a coil, no harness. Later that evening we bumped into each other at the Larry Norman concert in SD (late '70s).

bvb-- Yep. Larry Norman was like the first rock musician to cross-over to Christian Rock. Don't make any judgements, he played really good music, and I would assume MP was there for the music. He had a lot of cross-over fans back then. So anyone into good music would have liked listening. That was the only time I have seen Larry Norman in concert. It was very good. No different really than a real rock concert, minus the herb use (maybe?).

It was a burned in memory, having just climbed with MP that day and later bumping into him at the concert. Small world.

Edit: I have eclectic music taste, but by far my favorite band is YES. I'm a YEShead for sure. So, I would say I have a discerning ear. Larry Norman played some great music in his prime.

dude, while i was busy smokin' a pound of herb a day i was also larry norman's BIGGEST fan. i've always though his music was amazing, and i saw him live 20 or 30 times...last time at the tommorrowland stage at disneyland, '75 or so. i don't make judgements. i know great music when i hear it.

plus, i thought i might be going to hell when i die, so what the fukk, a little insurance. eh?

at this very moment, i have bootleg, on wax, worth $400.00, sitting 5' over my head on the top shelf of my desk.

Amazing bvb, you must have been at that concert in SD with MP? I think it was at the SD Civic Center downtown?

I still have my favorite albums (vinly) of his "Upon this Rock", "In Another Land", and "Something New Under The Son."

One of my favorite songs-- "Hard Luck and Bad News," must be the ultimate drinking into depression song ever. True rock blues. Don't recommend that song if one is truly depressed . . . could be serious (it should come with a warning label).

Funny we are talking about this. I wondered about Larry Norman a few weeks ago, did a google search. He is living up in Oregon with his family, has a website, he nearly died with a rare disease. I believe he is now on the mend, but it is still very serious and iffy. You can now get limited editions of some of his works on CD. I might do that and send him some $. Great music.
Off White

Mar 19, 2006 - 11:50pm PT
Oh god, not Larry Norman. BVB is responsible for Mike being there, I'm sure. He used to play his albums and serenade us at the crags and in the car. Made me go to a show where the opening act was some guy blathering on about how credit cards were the sign of the coming of the apocalypse. You know, how the numbers were a group of six numbers, and the companies were going to start making people tattoo them on their foreheads? Still waiting for that little event.

And hey, broadcasting abroad from chateau VanUpchuck in Flagstaff I can confirm that the bootleg does in fact sit on his shelves, but Greg Sage's photo is on the desk.

speaking of stoners, first time i met too tall he was living in san diego and working at "future foods", a hippy sandwich shop in p.b.

following a bunkweed session at watusi's mom's house, we had major munchies and dave had the keys to future foods....so we went in there (mind you, it's like 1 a.m. or so) and proceed to ravage the place like an army of starving huns. smoothies, tomato and sprout sangi's on home baked organic flour wheat bread, fresh fruit bowls, the works. for the next few days i was more regular that i ever been, before or since.

One thing does come across clear in this and the Stonemasters thread is the amazing level of training aside from just climbing and the very early adoption of bouldering in the SoCal crews. I never saw the videos or came out that way climbing so never really understood the degree that this was the basis for many remarkable careers and accomplishments. I understood this about Gill, but only to a much lesser degree with all of you. It's interesting to see how you all fed into and off of it and one another. In our case if we didn't get it climbing we didn't get it. Training per se wasn't part of our deal. I'm sure it rates a "duh" from all of you, but it wasn't that way everywhere back in the 70's. For Gill being from Colorado it seems there was a more rabid adoption of his ideas in SoCal than in Colorado during those years. Looks like a big part of the reason for it was what was available in the way of SoCal stone led to an inclination for serious bouldering / training to make the most of it.

As far as I know, nobody ever trained down in SoCal. Just a bunch of lay-abouts is what I heard.

Muss Man,
You are like, soooo lucky I tossed that Polaroid of you on the hangboard, with your huge ass, replete with way over-exposed butt crack-plummers butt. I was "insulted". You Rock, Pal.

Do us proud, get Susan to reshoot it and post it here:
