Drove the Big Dog Climbing to the peak in August 1975 - After several attempts since 1970 - The team consisted: by me, Jorge Marques Trabulo and two other climbers, natives of the island of São Tomé: Pires of the saints, Constantine Braganza, the Sebastian, our guide - climbing wall is vertical and very difficult - I'm Portuguese. Details of the story of our adventure, can be found at http://www.odisseiasnosmares.com/2012/02/cao-grande-em-sao-tome-grande-escalada.html

Peak Big Dog, is a rock almost ponteaguda of enormous dimensions, that stands out from the heart of the forest more dense and lush, the southern island of Sao Tome, near the equator - where the rainfall varies between 4500 to 5000mm year - is a monolith of volcanic origin of 663 meters, 300 meters high from the ground - or more, has the deepest aspects - Within walking distance, is located in the Little Dog, slightly fallen, equally difficult to climb. Powerful hot air masses, almost always involve the two peaks of dense fogs and mists.

Not sure if this is of any interest, but I established a new route up the peak earlier this year: http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/13201213866/Pico-Co-Grande-Nubivagant

I stumbled upon the peak one evening while Googling “super hero villain lairs.”

I love it!

Awesome effort and summit. Sounds like a hell of an adventure. Is there a more detailed story or more pictures anywhere (either now or expected later)?

Wild looking tower.

Would like to hear more about your climb, Gareth. How about an ST TR? :-)
