What The?
Ho Man. Maybe we can rig a hackneyed spoof shot up here...

The first time Long and the Fish met, both resisted the aquaintance heavily:

Largo: "Little Roy, 'need a ride to the crags, swing by and get me champ"

Roy: "Sure, I'll have to ask the Fish, he's drivin'"

Largo: "Gaahhh, anybody but that clown, what other options?"

Fish: "You want me to drive all the way to Santa Monica to pick up that Blow Hard?, too far outa the way babe!"

On the way to Josh, it was like a meeting of the Kings of smear: Fish pulled every goofball saying or gag in his bag, while JL furrowed his brow in consternation at all of it. By the time we piled out of the Time Machine into the darkness of HVC, it was like I no longer existed, the whole thing had turned 180 and these guys were trading endless barbs, laughing hysterically and on a roll...

Over in the Stonemaster thread they were speaking (derogatorily of course) of Henry Barber... I was reading an old rag the other day about the Cilley-Barber route on Mt Katahdin in Maine, a fairly gnarly winter ice route put up in 1973. It said Barber's partner was Dick Cilley. Now, there can't be two Dick Cilleys in the climbing world, but what's the scoop? Scary hard (for the time) long ice routes with significant soloing stretches at what, age 15?, just doesn't fit with the guy I met in the Valley a few years later. You around Leroy? Tell us a story!

(really now, not permitting links is just so contrary to the intardweb)

I mean really, does this look like Dick's kind of place?

Strange as it may seem there are east coast Cilleys, they have a statue and everything. I did not make that up.

I'm gonna post up a shot of rare, thick water ice formation taken 'Back in the Day at San T when I git home.

Dick Cilley = C#ck Cr#zy. I think I've spotted incongruous historical reference to another Cilley as well.

God help us.

Leroy told me about the other Cilleys. He pointed out a passage in the Harlin East Coast guide that mentions a statue that has 'Cilley' engraved on it as a landmark for finding something or other.

OK, multiple Leroys, world could be and is worse.

Just got an email response from Kenny Ariza: not a Troll, his head injury was sustained with minimal long term consequence, doing well and bartending in Sonoma.

Multiple indeed, the East coast housed two Cilleys, brothers. We should count our blessings in the west.

WB I am glad you are well, so am I, as for that whack to my head in 89' no long term affects, I remember the 80's all too clearly. Best thing that ever happened to me, knocked a little much needed sense into me. Just a little though. Tar, I forget the name of the area in Josh in 84' KS did a cool 11d tr called Baba O'riley, I think it has bolts now. Tuolemne FA? onsight soloed? Could be selective memory but that one must've been deleted from my hard drive in that crash of 89'. I dont doubt the story though-

'K Kenny,
Across from the Hall of Horrors, you guys named that whole area Teenage Wasteland, so Baba O'Riley is a close hit.

The other stuff was perhaps Murphy Creek, or a canyon down by the west end of Lake Tenaya. I do tend to get that confused with the canyon out of Olmstead Point. Anyhow, you and Kurt cleaned and fired a bunch of cracks there. I remember Bachar, Waugh and myself doing these things solo on a major TESTOSTERONE BENDER when you showed them to us, after you nabbed the firsts. One in particular had sequential locks to a cool Gaston section up higher. It's all in the book.

Goin home to post up some more jive now.
