"with the secret aspiration that it will one day build to what it should have been in the first place: a single payer system."

I doubt that will take longer than halfway through Hillary's 1st term.

i'm sure all you young, healthy libs have signed up for barrycare (or you've tried unsuccessfully--several times--and will continue to try) and are eager to pay more money for health care than those in your age group actually need just so you can cover the cost of older, less healthy people (like f), but...

let's consider:

"...doctors are looking at a system which is relying on the cost model of a privately run, profit driven industry (the insurance part of it) to pay for something being driven by a not for profit government scheme. And when the government’s anticipated participation levels don’t materialize, either from a lack of interest in a bad deal or the fact that potential customers can’t even access the system, the profits for the insurers don’t show up on their bottom line. Do they suck up the loss or attempt to pass the cost on to the health care providers? That one should be obvious. And if the doctors, who are also private business owners in large part, can’t recoup their own costs to deliver their services, where does the plan go from there?"

Let’s all put on our thinking caps and play the Jeopardy music.

Hahahaha, Unhung's "chart" shows current deficit at $4 trillion. It's actually around $600 billion.

And as we all know, Bush's share of the debt extends into 2009, the last year for which he wrote a budget. Funny how they point to 2005 as the end of Bush's administration - typical wingnut pablum.

Back and forth you guys go. Day after day, after day.

No, let's all try to pretend that every other industrialized democracy on earth doesn't have better health care at a quarter of what we pay. We pay twice as much for half the coverage.

And you seem to be arguing for eliminating health insurance altogether. Good man.

Schadenfreude is a very Republican concept, although the word is of German origin.
It is the feeling of joy or pleasure when one sees another fail or suffer misfortune.

Does it not show the deficit at $4 trillion? That's some pretty brilliant republi-math, considering the budget is only $3.6 trillion

NO Hedge. The deficit is what is in excess of revenues.

dude, there probably isn't a simpler means of deception than putting numbers into a spreadsheet and fiddling with graph types. People don't get past the initial visual impression.

Thus, such they are a meaningless but wonderfully sneaky tool for saying whatever you want to say. That's why I post them myself all the time. 'Cause who can argue with fancy charts?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

1) per our Constitution, the HOUSE is charged with originating and PASSING SPENDING BILLS

Actually while this statement is true the Constitution provides no framework for this process. So the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921 requires the President to present a budget annually to the House (something this President has not done since his first term.) Further budget process rules were adopted in the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974.

It's spelled out here.

Ok, but it's the same number though, so your distinction is pointless

Budget vs revenue and spending vs revenue were the same number last year, $1.1 trillion

This year it's about half that

So where does that chart get "$4 trillion"?

Tea party leader proposes ‘class action lawsuit’ against ‘homosexuality’

A tea party leader and former Baptist pastor — who believes that AIDS is God’s judgement against LGBT people — this week proposed filing a “class action lawsuit” against “homosexuality.”

At a Tea Party Unity event on Thursday, LGBT activist Peter LaBarbera told group Chairman Rick Scarborough that Fox News should be pushed to cover “these wonderful stories of happy men and women who have left the homosexual lifestyle” like they covered African-American conservatives.

“We need to work on our conservative, alternate media and say, ‘Look, don’t do the pro-gay thing, why don’t you rather step out and support these ex-gays?’ We should encourage Fox News to tell their stories,” LaBarbera said. “Fox is now telling the stories of black conservatives because the other media is not doing that, we should all get on Fox and say, ‘Come on, tell these stories, these wonderful stories of happy men and women who have left the homosexual lifestyle.’”

Scarborough, however, had a different plan for fighting what LaBarbera had called “the pro-gay thing.”

“Peter, the whole issue of a class action lawsuit, you and I have talked about this a little bit,” Scarborough pointed out. “I just wonder if you’ve explored that, talked to anyone about it.”

The former Baptist pastor opined that “homosexuality much more likely leads to AIDS than smoking leads to cancer. And yet the entire nation has rejected smoking, billions of dollars are put into a trust fund to help cancer victims and the tobacco industry was held accountable for that.”

“Yeah I think that’s great,” LaBarbera agreed. “I would love to see it. We always wanted to see one of the kid in high school who was counseled by the official school counselor to just be gay, then he comes down with HIV. But we never really got the client for that.”

Also holy lol at NWO's post about how Bush is 32 generations removed from Vlad the Impaler and all that other garbage. You do realize that family trees expand in two directions, right? We are all related if you go back far enough. That isn't a conspiracy isn't just basic math.

I'm not sure what is so hard to comprehend. The chart clearly shows revenue and deficit spending adding up to a number below 4 trillion $. For a brief moment around 2001 revenue exceeded spending and you can see the slight reduction in the debt. The total budget is below 4 trillion on the graph, but the graph lacks the resolution to peg it at 3.6. That's the budget: revenue and deficit combined.

Or try to look at it this way, the graph shows total spending (divided into revenue and deficit spending) vs. accrued debt.
