Methinks the air quality, food, and water, was better "overall"/worldwide, in the 60s.

Not in the developed countries where gov't regulates pollution, it isn't.

It can be very effectively controlled - objective reality being the proof of this.

Hmmmmm.....I'll take the fluoride-free water, GMO-free food, and less pollution (overall) of the 60s, please.

Less pollution? Pre-Clean Water Act (God bless Richard Nixon for that), the Ohio River was an industrial sewer, schools of dead perch and other rough fish floating on the surface. That was market forces at work. Now the river is cleaner and healthier. The striped bass and sturgeon have returned.

If you think it was better in the '60s, you weren't there.

And do you believe that GMO food is the result of government regulation, or more of your beloved market forces at work?

HighDesertDJ, I'm just going by the term libertarian as it is used by the Libertarian Party. I'm open to other definitions.

obviously statements about the 60's by people who weren't there.

the specter of world-wide famine, measurable nuclear bomb residue in the air.

The only way that things are worse, is the population has doubled.

NWO2, I'm curious. Is GMO food the result of government regulation, or market forces?

Yes, life was beautiful. We had fairies riding unicorns, rainbows and butterflies. Perrier flowed from our taps and the food was organic & pure.

Oh wait, that was when I lived in a commune- I might've been a little "polluted" myself when I saw these things...

Here are some pictures of the abundant beauty that surrounded us in the 70s: http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/11/documerica-images-of-america-in-crisis-in-the-1970s/100190/

Also, you might want to check out the documentary "Koyaanisqatsi" for some really uplifting footage!

It's total foolishness to drink a toxic substance like fluoride so some of it might rub off on your teeth. Fluoride is a halogen which, besides it's toxicity, is very close to Iodide and your Thyroid can easily mistake it for Idiode and this can mess you conversion of Thyroid hormone.

It's a by-product of aluminum and other manufacturing processes and the companies love to sell it for water treatment rather than pay to have it disposed of.

In 1997 the FDA required a poison warning on all fluoride toothpastes cautioning not to swallow toothpaste.

Most European countries do not fluoridate their water and even China has ceased fluoridating water. Even the benefits of fluoridating water on tooth decay is questionable as numerous studies show that dental caries is declining worldwide, even in areas that donít fluoridate the water.

Peace

^^^ Anybody that lived in LA in the 60's and 70's (like me) knows how much better the air quality is now. To say you liked it better in the 60's is just pathetically ignorant,

Hallelujah -- Hedge and I finally agree on something! I'm sorry, but air quality in most places I've lived my almost 62 years is actually better now than in the '60's, with the exception of the San Joaquin Valley. The population growth, both in the Valley and in the Bay Area -- that exports its air pollution here -- is responsible for the deterioration of air quality here. In areas that were already subject to intensive development and intensive air pollution, such as the LA basin, San Gabriel Valley, etc., both the measured pollution and the visibility are better now. It no longer brings tears to my eyes to visit my old haunts in Pasadena.

Some of the quotes in those emails were wrong

Says the MSM talking head. The wingnuts are always crying that the media is left wing, but this is the way the media describes blatant lies from republicons intended solely to mislead the puplic and turn them against the president. No security or classified info concerns involved, just downright lies crafted for political advantage.

SOP for the GOP.

Can you imagine the level of outrage on the right were the tables turned?
