You guys already have 'em.
For pure power and technical virtuosity in jazz, Buddy Rich was at the top.
But for COOL jazz, it was Gene Krupa. That guy was the COOLEST of the cool!! What he could do on nothin' but a snare? And the faces he pulled!! Man, Gene Krupa could pull good faces while he was playing!
Neil Peart from Rush [a fellow Hoser] owns 7/4 in rock, certainly one of the best.
And chubby Keith Moon always had the best licks.
But John Bonham from Zeppelin could do stuff that nobody else can do. I have a pretty good sense of time signature, but to this day, I simply cannot - ever - count Black Dog! I just can't do it! Maybe if I saw the actual chart on paper, then I could read it. But I can't count it, it's that hard, and he does it that well!
Here are some of the best jazz Youtube drumming selections.
Buddy Rich playing Count Basie/Sammy Nestico's Wind Machine:

I always liked the ABC Eyewitness News finish with the stacked perfect fourths.
If only watch ONE of these, watch THIS one! It's the Legendary Drum Battle between Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich on the short-lived Sammy Davis Jr. TV show. I only just found this version of the video today, and what makes it so great is Sammy's tap dancing at the beginning.
Man, that's entertainment! Today's entertainers do not hold a candle to these guys, the Masters of Cool.

OK, OK - so maybe I lied. Maybe you have to watch one more. This is Buddy Rich playing on Johnny Carson with Doc Severinsen's The Tonight Show's drummer Ed Shaughnessy.
You gotta see it to believe it! Who wins? I think it's Buddy, but it's a tough choice!
