The cover photo(Buyers Guide 2006) made Beth Rodden look like death warmed over. Actually, she didn't even look warm, she looked like a frozen corpse like you would find on Everest.

Yes, an icy cold and bleached out cover shot, followed by worthless pages of tables about numbers. Do people actully buy it.

No pictures as they don't update their website until months after the mag actually hits the stands.

Beth is a little hottie and they just ruined her appearance. She looks like the poster child for skin cancer risk.

I don't buy it, they keep sending it long after I let the subscription lapse. Climbing is doing the same thing. Thanks for the free mags guys.

Dudes, she looks like a starving vampire. Seriously.

She looks like a picture of mark twight I saw once where he wasn't looking too good at all.

For the record, I think she usually looks fine. Its just the photo.

What, you're expecting good copy from the industry rags? I stopped buying either mag over a year ago and every time I take a peek at the news stand it seems they just get worse with time. How long can R&I circle the drain? I mean, its amazing.

I, uhh, thought she looked great...

I'll leave the low hanging fruit since she's sans cams or other climbing equipage on her person...

Yeah, different look for her. Its ok.

Looks like a bad airbrush job to me. The whole issue makes very little sense; it's supposed to be a gear guide but there's no gear on the cover; it claims to review "every pad money can buy" but it doesn't (where's the Pagan Gear pad?); it totally ignores passive pro and belay widgets; all in all it looks like it was just slapped together to meet deadline. I liked some of the little mini-stories they used to introduce each section but other than that...

It's a big advert, nada mas.

OK story about Michael Gilbert lobbing for 60' in a Whillans harness(the word 'tortion' came up).... that sounds like a new thread topic!

I think the cover photo is over exposed, was this an accident or is there a dual meaning here? Does someone think Beth is getting to much hype? A conspiracy theory I admit. Whats up with no Alien cams in the review or did I miss them somewhere?

Dude, that chick looks so young! Like the kind of girl I'd look at and think, you know she is probably lieing about being legal. You know what I'm saying, you want to but you know it is wrong and illegal? Well I don't know about wrong, I mean some of us have no problems with it... no not me, just some other guy who is more bold than me and older.

I've always thought that Beth looked very young for her age, and I've read articles by her where she seemed to lament thinking the same thing. Even though the new R&I cover photo had a creepy overexposure, I noticed that Beth looked like an adult woman in it and wondered if she was psyched that her look was changing.

That pic brings up so many questions: What is that thing, some big ass cordelette? Why is his shirt all rucked up like a female impersonator? Did some fluffer add the droplets of sweat on her thigh? Did the production designer think that would be "hot"?

No offense to climber girls, cause you are all cool, but seriously if people want me to find some climbing pic hot... they will be far better off using actully hot chicks instead of climbers. When I want to go find hot girls, I don't make my way to anything that has to do with climbing. Tho sometimes there is hot girls at the gym... but they still look like they are 12 and are super thin and flatter chested than I am.

..."they will be far better off using actully hot chicks instead of climbers"...

Perhaps you don't consider them hot because the "hot chick" pictures you are used to are entirely artificial, using teenage women to portray adult images, and then airbrushed to
"perfection"......

Jeebus crispies I hope she isn't actually your wife. Not because she is unattractive (she's quite pretty) but because of the unwanted attention those sorts of shots gather on the intarweb. Who knows maybe she likes to bask. It's your marriage hombre.

As for Mrs. Caldwell she is quite pretty but she also looks like a kid. Not just some oversexed highschool freshman but a KID, as in, hey pass the crayons and finger paints, the moon bounce is over there, KID. Gee, it's 8pm, past your bedtime, KID. 80lbs.

Having met her in person at the gym, and thought she was a friend's 11-year-old daughter (when Ms. Rodden was 19? 20? this was back in 2000) I feel vaguely uncomfortable every time this sh#t crops up. Like overhearing some old crinkly car-club inmates talk about the hot preschoolers across the street.

If you pud-pulling freaks had ever met Beth Rodden in person... well hell, you'd probably be yanking even harder for all I know. Carry on, then...

....ummmmm, I can think of ways to make for a pretty hot scene using a cordellette and a couple of clove hitches. Add one slightly soiled climber guy and something bomber to anchor him to .....Maybe I am too chicken to 5th class over ball nuts, but I think they could cme in handy in summmmmmmmmmm situations....

Climbers not sexy!? My word, I must disagree.

Good things come in small sizes. My wife is about Beth's size. 5'1" X 95lbs, all muscle. She'll get carded until she's 40. She hasn't freed the nose yet though. Note that two small women have done it and only one guy.

akclimber: where did you get that photo? Looks like it was taken at Sunset Boulders here on the Sonoma Coast. Pelican Arete, .10a, is behind her.

Ok, with so much fuss over the R & I Buyers Guide 2006 cover, I had to take a look myself. You are all right, that is truly sick. Now, would it be some sort of copyright infringement to scan that image and post it up here? Or better yet, scan it and put some dang color back in her face (and body).
