Today I did first ascents 999 and 1000, which was sort of a life-time goal I had set for myself........How many of those FAs were good ones;...a few. How many were choss piles on grainy low angle dummy domes in Joshua Tree...most of them. How many were fun adventures for my friends and I;....pretty much all of them. It started under the wing of Michael Paul in 1977 on a FA called Pictures at an Exibition at Jumbo Rocks in Joshua Tree. First ascents in Arizona, Pakistan, Tahquitz/Suicide, Utah, San Diego County, San Bernardino Mountains,...mostly at Joshua Tree. No rap bolting either;..all put in on the lead....(At least when I was leading...)...Thanks to all my partners and friends who do first ascents with me. Let's go for 1000 more.....yeeeehoooooooooooo!

Doing first ascents is oftentimes a slow process;...thanks to those who both rope gunned for me and led me up many a first ascent, and for those who patiently belayed me for zillions of hours, oftentimes in not perfect weather...while I slowly crawled my way up new route turf;...barking demands and raining down rock on my patient partners.........celebrating the unknown and the spirit of adventure.....and supporting me in many a gamble.......

anything about Copper Mountain College? What is the staff like?

PT went to San Jacinto for two years, benefitted from Bud Couch and other unusually good
professors there, and then went to UC Santa Barbara. From there directly to HP in the Bay area,
back when HP was a power house.

Just being very familiar with accomplishments of the staff can open unsuspected paths.

Great stuff, Todd. You clearly have issues...like the rest of us....
I see a lot of desert towers in these pics. Problem is there are still hundreds of unclimbed desert towers all over the place. (But is that a problem?) Anyway, I need a sugar daddy. Are you wealthy? Best, Camster

Thanks Cam for the good word;....you are an inspiration to me, for you continue to have grand adventures with your family;......as my kids get older, I am trying to do the same......I realize there are still all sorts of desert towers and faces that still are unclimbed;......I think I'll save a few for the teenagers who are all too soon going to develop an appetite for such adventures......I still have a bunch more low angle dummy domes here in Joshua Tree to conquer......so I will be nibbling away at these 35' giants for a few more years anyways.......and Nature;...I DO need to see a therapist;......just as soon as school starts and I have 35 kindergarter students in my class this year;........

Thanks for the thread Todd. Wow! Thats an incredible accomplishment. All the photos are great too. I would love to see captions for them. Where, what when that kind of stuff. That is if it doesn't give your secret rock garden away. The tower routes look burley!
