http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2018020/Amy-Winehouse-dead--Found-dead-London-flat.html

In an interview in 2008, her mother Janis said she would be unsurprised if her daughter died before her time.

She said: 'I've known for a long time that my daughter has problems. But seeing it on screen rammed it home. I realise my daughter could be dead within the year. We're watching her kill herself, slowly.

'I've already come to terms with her dead. I've steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road.'

It's hard to imagine a parent saying that to the press. So sad.

This comes as no shock. She had a big history of drug use & abuse. She made many poor chioces in her personal life.

Wow, I just watched the video linked to the story and can knott believe how badly she butchered the awesome Back to Black, as she slurred and stumbled through it.

The wrecking train has finally screeched to a halt.

Here's a well-written article with a lot more info:

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/43866337
She was famously blunt in her assessment of her peers, once describing Dido's sound as "background music — the background to death" and saying of pop princess Kylie Minogue, "she's not an artist ... she's a pony."

LOL!!

It shows how one's strongest ties, "the one's to your family" become weak compared to the pull of the drugs. It's a sad story. I feel bad for all the people who loved her and tried to get her to recover. To have them literally watch Amy kill herself. I can't imagine the suffering.

Rest In Peace Amy.

My advice to rock/pop stars is go from 26 to 28 directly, avoid 27.

Actually, Otis Redding only made it to 26, however Hank Williams made it past 27 to 29.

For Amy

It's like a cinder in a raging fire
blazing towards a speedy death
no direction, no desire
Pull me closer to the flame
The night air is cold and sucks my breath
My burning spirit flares it's strength
Soon extinguished, the time is near
I glow with wonder, I travel free
no more worry, no more fear
I let it go, it's easy now
My cooler being allows me time
to travel unseen by hurtful eyes
I trust the sky to lead me from
the ways I've known for far too long
I drift alone and free at last
To find new treasures
To find new paths...

"Winehouse was apparently 'beyond help' when paramedics arrived, according to Sky sources."

- Reading the story, and seeing the photos... I've come to the conclusion that she was "beyond help" long before the paramedics arrived.

If you deny the junkie artist his needle, you risk his product coming to an end. So the behavior is usually tolerated, often encouraged to some degree. Everyone rubbernecks at a car-crash. Media sends helicopters into the air so we can gawk from our comfy chair. We're all complicit in the end.

I'm not sure about that. Often the product coming from junkie artists is utter crap.

All I have to offer is that a young woman died and regardless of the reasons behind it, it's really sad. There are lots of people out there hurting as a result, and to them, I send my condolences. I don't really think anything else matters. RIP.

It's interesting to read some of the laudatory type comments about Amy knowing also she was on a fast track to destruction. Yet, many comments about the tragedy at Vernal Falls suggested "Darwinism"...dumb, careless and a host of other unsympathetic characerizations. Regardless if you are infamous or just out for a fun day with your church group the loss of these young lives leaves a hole. At that age the concept of death and the " rules don't apply to me mentality" is a powerful and provocative pull. The invincibility of youth...we all bought into it until we got older...a lot older. I'll miss her unique talent. Susan

Really sad for anyone, especially that age. It's especially poignant with her, because you can see how much she had ahead of her and what she had to offer.

hey there say, all.... oh my... i did not even know who she was...

had never heard of her,
but what matters is that her mom knew her and loved her (though from that first post, here, she wasn't able to reach out to her--that was so sad for both of them) :( ... oh my...

my condolences to her mom and her loved one, at this sad time...

What a shame.

As in the Vernal Falls tragedy, I feel sympathy for the family and friends who suffered a loss; and grateful it wasn't anyone close to me.

We all could see it and we all knew what was happening... That's the kicker.

There isn't a family member, a friend, or any emotional tie that can stop it. There isn't enough money in the world to solve a drug problem when the addict doesn't desire it themselves. Even if it wasn't a drug overdose, I bet it was still from the effects of drugs. You could see that she was physically damaged extensively by her habit. She had taken it to a level that you simply don't survive.

The drugs owned her.

If you deny the junkie artist his needle, you risk his product coming to an end.

Not true. Junkie artists who produce quality art do it in spite of the needle, not because of it.

We're all complicit in the end.

"So sad , a great talent". But the choice is still your own, live and die by the needle and the spoon or choose a different path. There are so many great artists who struggled and are still alive today: Clapton,Robin Williams,Chrissie Hynde, just to mention a few.

If you chose the road to ruin, you know where the path leads, sorry no compassion from me.

Dying in pursuit of your goals may be noble, avoiding reality with drugs is not . What do we teach when we sympathize and honour destructive behaviours?

I'm no saint or bible thumper, but i've seen both sides of the razors edge. Talent be damed, Darwinism strikes again!

I was at an open stage in Venice last night and there were 3 young girls from London. One slight girl, maybe 22 yr old and 5'1" channeled Amy, it was spooky hearing such a big voice coming out of such a little girl, I still have goosebumps.

“Jazz is a wonderful art,” he continues. “Listening to it, I compare it to watching the greatest tennis player who’s so intelligent about where he places the ball, it becomes effortless. The great ones that are very talented know just how to turn jazz singing into a performance that’s unforgettable. And Amy had that gift. The fact that she died at 27 years old is just horrible to me. If she had lived, she would’ve been right up there with Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. It’s just a tragedy.”
