Damn sorry to see this is where he's at. I hung out with him a bit at the Pit this winter, when he was going through the tests. I headed off before he had gotten results.

I think he is an incredibly brave person, the way he stepped up and got through round one, and then how he stayed composed in the face of the wait this time. Smiling and laughing and a happy disposition the whole time.

You're in my thoughts, Clark. I'll see you next winter around that Pit campfire.

As Clark does not have a computer, when I was speaking to him on the telephone I read ‎him the posts on this thread. He was genuinely touched. Those of you who know Clark ‎know that he is very modest and he was surprised that so many people would wish him ‎well. He asked me to post the following in response:‎

‎“I thank all of you, my friends and well wishers, for the kind words and positive ‎thoughts. I have to undergo chemotherapy every Friday, but I feel alright now. I will have an update posted when I learn more.” ‎

I speak with Clark fairly regularly and if anyone wants me to pass on a more private ‎message to him I am happy to do it. Just send me a p.m. through this site.‎

Update on Clark. I just got the phone with Clark. He is at Esinhower under going his last round of chemo. He had a reaction to something, perhaps the chemo drip was too fast- he really didnt know, but he had to be revived and is under observation now. He was not very clear as I was talking to him, so details are a bit foggy.
He could really use your good thoughts right now. I will post more when I get it.

I am speaking to Clark right now and he asked me to post an update for his friends. He ‎said he was getting his chemo and he collapsed, vomited and passed out. The paramedics ‎were called. They had to revive him as he was unconscious and having trouble breathing. He was taken to the ER and given an MRI. He was told he had some kind of bad reaction ‎that produced a seizure. He was pronounced fit and sent home where he is now resting. ‎He is still feeling poorly, but happy to still be with us.‎ However he says he may need to take a day off from climbing to rest.

Just got a call from Clark. He asked me to post an update on his behalf. He said:

Because of the bad reaction he had during his last chemo treatment, his chemo treatments have been suspended for now. He is waiting for a new evaluation from his doctor on July 7 to see where his health is. He will know the next step at that time. In the meantime he is back to climbing daily in Idyllwild. He again thanks everybody for their well wishes, thoughts and prayers. Every little bit helps.

I'm already on this. I should have things all squared away tomorrow. The fundraising will be done on behalf of Friends Of Joshua Tree so that everyone knows that the money will indeed go to Clark.

He's currently staying in Wally Barker's trailer (thanks Wally) at the horse ranch here in Josh. My wife set him up with some forms he can use to get 14 cents/mile gas reimbursement from the American Cancer Society. It's not much, but I can assure it's better than nothing.

I'll be posting details on how to donate sometime tomorrow. Clark is in good hands here. He has a lot of friends who are looking out for him and helping him.

The parties are great and all, but the fundraising effort really needs to start now.

Agreed on this point. He has been driving back and forth to Eisenhower hospital 3 and 4 times a week this last few weeks.

I tried to coax him into allowing a fundraiser to be made when I first learned about this recent round of chemo, but he was too...something! I also wasn't the right person to manage it, and was hoping for someone better equipped to get it rolling. I think the Friends of JT link is a smart move, to help with transparency, and we all know that Clark has surely been a friend TO Joshua Tree for many years!

Went climbing with him on Monday, while he still had stitches in his chest for the port insertion. He said the doc had told him to limit strenuous exercise, but true to his nature, Clark felt that leading Double Cross and Sexy Grandma ought not be all that strenuous for him.

He led both cleanly, quickly and in such style you'd have thought he'd been on those routes a hundred times already...oh,wait...he has- hahah. Nonetheless, who amongst us would have the tenacity and good spirits to take that attitude and actions in the same circumstances? Clark has the best attitude possible, and that is inspiring.

Anything will help. I have the info sent off to the board of directors of FOJT to post on their website. As soon as that goes live, I will post a thread to support the effort here and on other websites.

FOJT is an established group so there should be no problems with people getting up in arms over where the money is actually going. It goes to Clark.

I spoke with Clark yesterday while he was hanging out on the job site about all of this and he is fine and very appreciative of the effort. A friend of mine has already donated $150. Another friend of his came by with food, blankets, sheets, and a extra sleeping bag for his new digs.

What ever amount people choose to donate is great.

We are definitely looking out for him.

As far as fundraising parties go, I'm going to leave that to people and powers far greater than myself.

I would like to make my intentions very clear on this fundraiser for Clark. After what happened to the John Long effort, I want things to be very clear.

I purposely chose the Friends Of Joshua Tree because it's a known entity. I know the members of the board, and there should be no issues of where the funds are going.

They are going to Clark.

For those that choose to donate through the site, there will be a small processing fee. Other than that, all moneys donated will go directly to him.

If you wish to avoid the online transaction fees and wish to send him a check, that information will be available.

There is an additional benefit to this process that will come to light in a few days. We are almost there. I just spoke with one of the board members and a few tweaks need to be made.

I promise to keep everyone up to date.

Additional benefit?

You mean they are going to do a little fine tuning to the face on the Old Woman so the visage bears a resemblance to Clarks? (bump)
