Only info I have is that Mike passed while on a climbing trip to Colombia- his mother posted on his fb page.
A unique individual and a warm person- you will be missed.

I'm so sad right now! You will be missed my friend! I had a great time with you on half dome. I will never forget the time we spent together.
I would have let you drink all my beer if I had realized I'd never seen you again. Too bad my ego was huge back then... Farewell Mike!

I had the pleasure of climbing two el cap routes with Mike. He was a proud partner who lead his A4 pitches and perfected the art of "pretending" to be awake in the morning. Mike gave me many of my best bigwall memories, including both of us having our hands so full of Red Bull and Cobra that we couldn't hold any more even as he was trying to dig out more for later in the day. "Dude, can you hold this?" "Um, my hands are already full"
Mike, I'm sorry I didn't dig deeper in the pig to find your beverages, my arms weren't as short as I acted like they were, I'm sorry I made you lead Sun and Steel in the dark (sort of) and I'm sorry we didn't climb Aurora together, but man, I know you would have hated all the bathooks.

Mike and I became friends in Prescott in the late 80's. He was one of a kind, a climbing lifer. He really walked the walk. I couldn't log onto FB witout getting IM'd "Bobo, El Cap this fall?" and him rattling the names of routes off. He seemed to always be somewhere cool, climbing something hard. I miss you Mikey! See you soon...

LOL, atch. Mike was a Facebook pro. I barely knew him, but he'd climbed with J a few times...notably on J's first trip to the Creek. J doesn't really do FB, so I log into his account every couple of months and let him know if has any messages or requests. Mike requested a chat every time I did this. Last night, I clicked on the little icon for his unanswered chat requests. It said "Mike is offline," and this made me cry. I hope he was having great time in Colombia. My condolences to his mom, the rest of his family, and close friends.
I will remember Mike for being nice to me when the people that he was climbing with were not.

My first trip to the Creek, Mike would get me up before everybody else and we'd sit and share the ritual of strong coffee and a euro-style rollie while watching the sun rise in that magical place. I won't forget Handsome Mike.

I remember leaving Yosemite with Handsome and CDR, two dreadlocked heads, for an extended trip to the Creek. We got out of Lee Vining on the 6, Subaru freighted heavy, Handsome's grade VI haul bag lashed up top next to the rocket box. Handsome cracks the last Cobra and promptly drops it on the floor in the backseat! Classic move. With the car reeking of malt liquor we managed to make the trip Law Enforcement free! Loved that guy. You are deeply missed MIKE.

So surreal to lose another one of us. Like so many, Handsome Mike will just live on in my memories, sort of like he just hasn't been able to make it here in awhile. He'll be missed, and not "gone". Very sorry to hear about this and I wish peace and comfort to everyone grieving the loss of this great guy. HB

Sounds like it wasn't climbing related- he had caught a bus to Bogota for a soccer match on a saturday with plans to climb with the crew monday and did not return.
He was there for my first and life changing trip to the creek. His hand gobies were of a depth and width you might not believe, and yet he continued to refuse the tape day after day. The ol' e send juice was all he needed.

While perhaps not an original thought, the real majesty of the climbing experience to me is the sharing and the depth of the friendships forged in the process.
This photo sums up the Creek experience to me; the apostle with duct tape patched jeans thumbs the bible while the experienced master preserves energy for later battle.
As much joy as I felt capturing that moment I feel equal sadness in the passing of a comrade. RIP Mike.

I knew Mike from back in the Prescott days and he always had the stoke to climb.
He came to Donner Summit once and he had to get on Crack of the Eighties because he had read about the FA somewhere. He was the only person I ever saw even get on the thing in the 20 years I have bounced around Donner Summit.
RIP

Hello everyone
It's been really wonderful to read all the comments regarding my brother Mike's passing. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences about climbing with him.
I wanted to let you know that I've set up a blog to memorialize Mike, and inform people of what's been going on with the Colombian authorities as we try to resolve everything and bring Mike home.
We are also asking for donations to help cover the costs of settling his estate and repatriating his remains. Please help us spread the word and pass along links to http://www.mikes-memorial.org
All the best,
Ian Bohorquez (Mike's brother)

the gate creaks and swings crooked.
as i pass thru i vow to fix it as soon as i fix myself,
for i issue no sounds and i wallow around with sad gaits,
anyway silence screams all truths at once
though no one can hear them, the truths, so wars do not abound
....as ignorance and genius clash swords;
i sit still in the warm glow of a mountain sunrise
the trees issue endearing indifference, in deference
and i try and try to follow their lead of staying still
through all times until my death becomes of gravity’s will alone,
and i clamber earthward in a graceful arc and slam willingly against
my domain,
though i will alter nothing by doing so,
except my departing smile stains eternity with lip-stick.
yea, i’ll lay down and die when i need to.
i care not for life, i try not at living.
my body is the seed of a larger idea,
and, no, this idea may’nt bloom until I, is soiled.
i come home at night, smeared with tree pitch,
tainted with oak oils,
itchy and sticky, broken and broke.
i have three cups of water as my daughters tell me their stories.
and i believe that their story is more like a song,
and their walk is more like a dance,
their laughter, music.
their smile; hate slaughtered.
i listen to them and my heart is glad –
glad for all of the moments crashing upon it.
