Born in 1916, I'm guessing that this pic was taken sometime around the year that I was born, 1945. When someone has a birthday, especially me, I always try to honor the mother of whosever birthday it is since she is the one who put so much of her life's energy into our initial existence.

Thanks Anastasia. I seem to have only gotten my hair texture (straight, thick, pleasant gray, er I mean blond) and walk from my dad. The rest is all my mom.

She thinks she's ugly. Breaks my heart.

A pic from a couple of years back of me with my mom and my (now) wife. My mom's a real trooper, she has Parkinson's and had to go through dozens of medications before she found one that her body could take. She's actually doing quite a bit better now. She turns 80 this year on Dec. 25th!

My sister scanned this for the family calendar. Note the lovely dresses my mom sewed for her girls. She made all our clothes and grew all the fruit and vegetables for the family. We ate out very infrequently, so this was a real treat.

The five of us gave Mom and Dad a top shelf golf vacation for their 40th anniversary. I did a timeshare exchange for them, my sister worked for American Airlines and got cheap airline tickets, my brother got tee times at several famous golf courses, a sister got a luxury car rental for the week, and another sister arranged for various restaurants. We discussed doing it for their 40th since we all had decent jobs. She died 2 years later when breast cancer returned to claim her in less than a week.

I am so sorry Daphne! Lots of prayers from this corner.
Bill is saying that having it encapsulated is actually better. It means that the stuff isn't spilling into the rest of the organs, though it does make it harder to clean out.

I really hope for the best. Praying, etc.

(As for the pictures! Thanks folks... You are making this thread so wonderful. I love how we are honoring them, never forgetting their importance, etc. My own Mom died ten months ago so remembering her means a whole lot to me. I love this thread and all the great pictures, but I reallylove how much support is available from this community. It isn't the first time I have observed it and it moves me every time. Thank you, all.

I spoke with my Mom a couple of hours ago. She is responding really well to the heavy antibiotic treatment and the doctors want to keep her in the hospital for another three days and then to a hotel to for another few days and then if she keeps on doing well, she can fly home! The encapsulation of the appendix needs to be solid before she can fly, and really healed before they can go in and take it out, probably a couple of months. Until then, it is like living with a ticking time bomb, apparently. She seemed in great spirits. She really appreciates the prayers and thanks you for them.

My Mom ( left ) doesn't appear to be having as much fun as my step-Dad and my Cousin were here ( they were laughing their asses off when I got the camera stuck in the tops of the trees, and I had to fly it out with the kite. They thought that was funny as hell. ), but she has done some real artistic stuff with the shot of the lighthouse I got that day:

You can report her to the DMV. They will give her another test and if she doesn't pass, well... They will do it for you. I was on the verge of doing that to my own mother when she had her own wake up call. My mom was one of the most stubborn people on this planet but it was tempered with intelligence.

I can't get to my mother's photos at the moment thanks to the mess of a home renovation project. I do have a photo of Frank Sacherer's parent's on my computer however, so I'm posting that instead.

This photo was taken during a picnic at the Plan de Brevent where the gondola stops above Chamonix and across from Mt. Blanc. Frank's parents were visiting and we had our Siamese cat with us as always. Frank's mother always looked at least 20 years younger than she was. The date is 1971 and in this photo she is mid 60's.

Definitely, Verna Sacherer was the best mother-in-law anyone could have. Unfortunately, she passed on in 2000.

Hey great pictures Nita and Jan...loved the Siamese...I've always had 2 or 3 or 4 at a time. And then there is shootin' Mama...any relation to Bonnie of Bonnie and Clyde? I really love this thread! Can't wait for Father's Day also...or as some cynical people would say "every day is Father's Day".
DM: my face is wet with tears...my Mom died over 15 years ago and I was well into adulthood. I had always called her "Mom" for as long as I could remember. After she died whenever I would think of her it was always "Mommy" ... in fact the last words I said to her were "Mommy I love you". Yes, indeed being pulled back into the mothering years seems to happen no matter how old we are.

This is one of the rare dinners out - for Mother's Day. Eventually there was five kids. My little brother was deemed too young to go out to dinner this year. You can't tell from this photo, Mom sewed all of our clothes. The two oldest girls in this photo have the exact same dress with a slightly different color (same print). I never owned a store bought dress until I had my own job in high school. Even then, I bought fabric and sewed most of my clothes.

I don't have any pictures of my mom scanned, but she is beautiful.
She turns 70 this year and is still working part time.
I got to visit with my grandmother just over a week ago. She is 94 and slowed down by arthritis and blindness. Her memory is also not as sharp as it was, but if you give her a few moments, it comes back. Synapse slower is all.
My wonderful Aunt lives with her and cares for her.

My mother and aunt grew up in Hawaii in the 50's, I was born there. My Mom was one of the first surfer girls in Hawai'. She has a photo of her up on some big burly howlie's shoulders on one of those monster boards.
She was also an accomplished free diver, or snorkler, until an accident that swept her over a reef made her sick for some time.

My mother is another of those sweet gentle souls who never has a bad word to say about anyone (excpet GW, she could'nt help herself and got vehement about that monster, but always with an apology.)
I am so glad I got her as a Mom, she countered my Dad, who was a bit of an as#@&%e. (He's not anymore, his 2nd wife broke him in good, lol!)

I am trying to get to a point where we can move in together in the next 2 years. I have relied on her so much over the years, it's my turn to give back!

Love all the photos of your Mom's, wish I had one to share.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's out there!

Here's one of my mom last Thanksgiving. We were putting up Christmas lights and were having a great time, teasing each other.

She looks really good for someone we gave last rites to in 2004. Spent 6 weeks in ICU on a ventilator after her colon burst during an examination. I think the survival rate is almost zero after a couple of weeks.

Me and mom a few years back. They are now right in the middle of moving out of their home and into a retirement community. It's a pretty scary and emotional time for both of them. I feel lucky that I still have them and sometimes, I feel wonder at how much helping your loved ones through pain and uncertainty can make you feel closer.

I totally agree not all Mom's are mothers and... Not all mothers are genetically related to you. The act of being mothered can come from anyone, from any age, sex, and any species.

I have been well mothered by my dog. I have been mothered by friends, by even a small child who brought me a band aid when I cut myself. My biological "real" mother was a very interesting and intense person. She was a great Mom on some levels and others... Well, she was sometimes a lesson on what "not to do." All I can say is I have chosen to remember the love, her dedication to me, her desire to do what was right and this does matter. What I am choosing to remember makes me a better person, I'll take the good and the bad... Well, why put energy there except to make sure not to repeat it.

Plus there are tons of folks that help raise me, even today... To all folks who have mothered me through some interesting times, helping ME "do it right." Thank You!!!

Here's to all those that mother us.

hey there say, anastasia! thank you so much!!

my grown kids, i had to leave behind when i had to get away from their dad, which was a long hard story, though i stayed for the whole years of their childhood, ...when a 'danger' time' began to keep growing, and friends helped me leave, well:

my kids rarely even say a fast hi, if at all (on the facebook) ... i never hear from them, and their dad played a major part in all that, as i am now the 'bad one' for leaving their home, :O

no amount of sharing, love or, trying to communicate, ever helped, so i have to just let it sit, now, and have for the last few years...

but--due to god's grace, i have so many 'children' that love me as if a mom, and many gals like YOU that i have nutured and share kindness with...

so:
this is my sweet mother's day from god--it comes everday, from all you all, and in a sense, kind of being a 'mom' here at the ol' taco, too,
keeping all the climbers in mind, as to prayers-on-their-journies...

:)

thus-- you, and my OWN mom, have made me a good solid and special mother's day, these last few years!

thank you!!!!!

god bless to all the moms..

and bradon-....

thank you for your story, a hard one to share... i know some little children in a situation that i can't share of, and they are NOT having a good mother time in their childhood and it is very very sad...
no one is able to help at the moment, so it is all we can do to pray, now...

i am glad to see you made it through that hard time... and i am praying that these young kids make it through their hard time, now, too...
at least they have a father to hopefully keep tabs there, but he may not be able to do much for them, only time will tell...

for all of you that know families like this...
let's keep 'mom's that need serious help' in our prayers so that that something can get into those homes and help the kids... :(

when it is not our home, not much can be done... :(

she made cupcakes with my sister... they had their own personal
mother's day... :)

and took a nature walk...
:)

me-- ? i actually had a mother's day, this year...
three of my kids, contacted me... :)

(been better, to communicate, since after my ex died)

i will post a pic, in just a bit, ... my oldest, and his wife,
sent me a fruit-gift...

and i got a card from that wonderful ol' lacey gal that know, :)
(she spent her day being a superviser, so to speak, to a
wild mama cat, and kittens) ...

great day, to do it:

helping a mother, ;)

Me and mom walking next to Union Square around 1949:

Think we lived just up the block in a flat on Hyde St. close to the Presidio. A real native San Franciscan. My mother worked at the gift shop next to the Geary Theatre a couple of blocks closer to downtown.

I know it is not Mother's Day but today is the 1 year anniversary of my mother passing. Below is a picture of mom and dad on their wedding day (he 23, she 19) and then a picture of my dad and my uncle with their wives. My parents are on the right, picture taken at a family reunion in Yosemite in 2006.

Miss you Mom.

My Mom is a fabric artist, so of course her books are organized by color:

Back in the day, my mom was quite the looker. That's her on the right

Here she is a few years ago. Not bad for someone we gave last rites to in 2003.
