He must've thought he might find some Heroin up on those rocks. Not exactly an outdoorsy type wouldn't you say?

It looks like he's wearing Sanuks on his feet.

Velvet pants and fuzzy slippers are always the perfect bouldering attire. He rocks it.

What a great shot.
I wonder how long he kept that rock from falling over.

This made my day (OK, it's easy to make my day...). The Steve Tyler story is hilarious.

I think someone told Keith that JT had some good "crack" in those rock formations (though that photo probably pre-dates common use of the term "crack").

Could be a whole new sub-variation for climbing: bouldering in fluffy bunny slippers!

Wasn't Altamont in '70?

If Steve Tyler is so ugly and can still have a daughter as beautiful as Liv maybe we don't need to castrate weld-it.

Thank goodness for mothers.

I shot these photos in the mid-'90s, 15 years ago yesterday in fact, at Levon Helm's house in Woodstock. This video was made a decade and a half after the fact - I wish they would have used real prints to put this together, as it is it looks like they just scanned my contact sheets... Anyhoo, a fun time was had by all...

That's Keith Richards, obviously, and Levon Helm and The Band, Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana from Elvis Presley's original band, Paul Burlison from the Johnny Burnette Trio, Marshall Crenshaw, Stan Lynch from Tom Petty's band... and if you look close, Keith Richards father, before Keith sniffed him up his nose....

A gem of an image, Chris. Who would'a thought?

The other image, of Steven Tyler's daughter Liv, reminded me that I once (almost literally) bumped into her on the street in Princeville, Kauai, a couple of years ago. She had a toddler in tow and was as lovely in real life as any elf I'd seen on the silver screen.

ROCK SCARS
with apologies to G. Parsons

Rock hurts
Rock scares
Rock wounds and marks me in my heart
Not tough nor strong enough to take a lot of pain
Take a lot of pain

Face is hard to climb
Small holds your strength will drain
Crimps hurt
Crimps hurt

I'm young I know but even so
I know a thing or two I've learned from you
I've really learned a lot
Really learned a lot.
The rock is like a stove
Burns you when it's hot.
It hurts
It hurts

Some fools rave of long run-outs

Sketchiness
Wilderrness
Some fools fool themselves
I guess

But they're not fooling me i know it isn't cool
(Cuz they’re all gonna die)

No
It isn't true. Rock is just a lieback that makes you blue.
Rock hurts
Rock hurts.

Rock hurts
Rock scares

I never climbed Lost Horse Wall--how unkind my fate.
I watched a video in '83 of John B. on it.
The very first time I watched someone free-soloing anything anywhere.
And how unkind John's fate.

Two of the very best at what they did, Bachar and Parsons.
Both departed early.

edit--bluelens is right. Life is very good literature from a genuinely surprising source. The story of how Keith bumped his head getting out of the tree and then just "let it bleed," so to say, is a medical journey you want to avoid in your own life.

Toward the end of his bio ""Life" is Keith's story of camping with his family in a "battered Winnebago", where he uses his boyhood scouting training to start campfires in the rain. Due to rain flattening his hair he remains unrecognized. It's a great read.

Autumn Cannibalism?

Just because the doods standing there touching a rock doesn't mean he's "bouldering".
