I just wondering if Reno/Carson/Tahoe taco climbers would be interested in getting together on regular basis once a week, twice a month or so? Also looks like we got more fresh taco blood in town and they are psyched about climbing but don’t have partners. By the way it would be a good way to get those old local farts go climbing again and share some wisdom with fresh blood.
If anybody is interested throw some suggestions about time and place.
My suggestions for place:
1. Silver Peak – nice place, excellent service, happy Silver’s brother;
2. Sierra Gold by South Renown – Happy Hour Half off All Drinks and Pizza everyday 4pm-8pm and 10pm-"gotta go home, my wife is waiting", hot waitresses, 2 min form my place waking;
3. Men’s Club on Lake St. – gotta stimulate that local economy, right ;-).
Time: any day from Tuesday to Thursday at 6 pm.

If we could set up time and place for weekly get-together, that would be a start. Maybe some weeks we will get nice company show up and some weeks nobody shows up, who cares it's not a church meeting we trying to start. Eventually maybe we can start local climbing club or something, although that would be totally gay.
BTW anybody want's to go to Tuolumne sometime in October on weekend? I would love to go there once or twice before winter hits. As of right now temperatures are in prime and no crowds since campground is closed. Can't ask for more.

Ron you only have me by a few years ...I thought it was my job to "a tour of the lower rent carson city hot spots", I 'm feeling unwanted......
Truth is I'll go anywhere and maybe over a few cold ones someone will spark a motivation within me to pursue some grand and excellent adventure.
Regretfully Silver " with all due respect Sir", I'm a Beer Drinking Fool and I don't particularly care for your brothers swill.......I said with all due respect...OK I'll call you tomorrow man.
Reno (as most places I'm sure has about 5 different groups of climbers), everything from ol timers who are hard to get off the couch but can still lead solid trad .10's, to a few ol' timers that were naturally gifted and still push into the Hard, to the weekend warriors both the wannabees and the real up and coming potential hardmen, and the social climbers who spent a few seasons in the valley or wherever, and now climb merely for a mental distraction 20 or less times a year. 'bout sums it up.
So where are we meetin'?

Ok, I'll pitch it for consideration. How about Tuesday at Sierra Gold by South Renown at 6pm. Their Happy Hour rocks, the other day me and Shack had two big ones each and the bill after all was only $10, yeah!!! I really like Silver Peak, but gotta think about Mr. Miller too and it's as close to Carson as anything in Reno ever could be.

Clear Creek. Upper clear creek off the ol road about 2 miles up steep and spectacular. The Genoa side of the same hill, Voltaire Canyon, Back side of C Hill A .11c that has had the crux done but Knott completed through the .8ish wide hands to the summit. Kings canyon waterfall area, Tyrollean traverse, ice climbing and a .9 with broken Glass. Ash canyon about a mile up and to to south. CC is great for Ghetto climbing. Oh yeah what about that ol' Book that some ol' timer put out by the name of RA, Full of classics...and undeveloped areas.
Hey Ron I've been down to the area out of Marklieville(sp) and checked out some sweet long stuff, but there are Private property signs all around ( a private hunting area now) ? Have you put up anything in Pleasant Valley or Know of the current restrictions?

especially if it's Sierra Gold, that is walking distance for me and more like crawling distance for Dalyte!!

Thanks Ron I think I would go with a Topo before I tried that. Went hiking around down there earlier this year for about two miles up and over little ravines to get up to the base of the rock. A few sweet water falls back there, but honestly had a hell of a time finding which ravine I had left the truck. Finally just allowed one of the Aussies on her own and followed her back through the forests and two ravines and low and behold there was the truck. A good "outside " dawg is a lot better then GPS is some situations.
The blue lakes area is a definite potential area just need to wait into the fall so the crowds slow down, have you checked out the Donner like but larger crag to the west, the other one that has the North face of blue lakes? I have and there looks like some worthwhile stuff.

Between pleasant valley grovers and up round blue lakes, theres got to be five hundred stellar routes waiting for human touch...
Are you guys planning to check out that area more some time on the weekend? I would love to tag along if I may.

Yeah when I was back there last spring they had it very well posted. I think you're attitude towards them is the same as my opinion. Hey Ron do you have a link to the petitioning group that we can sign and also maybe we can get the Access fund to help,( they did such a stellar job at cave).I'm a member.
Even without access issues I think Saturday is a little warm for the exposure (Southern facing) for this weekend, maybe in a week or two but then it will start to get into prime LL season...

Silver, good to hear your hunting was successful. Maybe next gathering could include some deer steaks, that would be something. Judging on last gathering most of the gang, but me, are not big eaters, so your meat stock won't suffer much.

Seth, possible plan change ...Dalius want's to practice Aid, so we may head over to donner. We can belay him up this great aid problem and then we'll go do some laps on Jelly Roll arch. Plans are still tentative but I'll keep you in the loop. Enjoy tonight's events.

I have a buddy coming into town from SF, so he'll be present for the weekend outing...
He climbs,so lets get somewhere with good views and some easier climbs...
I'd put him around 5.8 on the tr, but who knows, it's been awhile since we've climbed together...

Wish I could make it on Thurs...
90' is perfect if you have a friend who TR's 5.8is. There is a GREAT 5.7 on the far left side, and a 5.8 crack to the right of that. The 5.10b arete is a great TR with slopey, powerful and balancy moves. To the right of the chimney is a good 10c (Alias Emil Bart) that will get your heart pumping. To the right of that is a good .9 crack and 10a. Also, the lightning bolt roof (10b) is a must-do!!!

Thanks Silver for good times at the crag. I like your RURPs anchor setup and especially the Seth face expression, once you said you can sleep on it or jug that thing, that was quite funny.
We should definitely get out climbing more for sure. Mark was slacking out last Saturday, but he usually is trying to get out climbing every Saturday, so do we.
This weekend I and GoMZ were planing a trip to the Valley, but looks like the weather is not gonna be that great so we might stick around in town. I sure would like to go to Black Wall some time and take a look at those routes you have been working on cleaning and replacing the bolts.

So what's the plan then for tomorrow? Should we just meet up at RR or somewhere in town? I used to meet my friend at 7 eleven store right on West McCarran and I-80, between Gas station and Arby's. Usually good place to meet for carpooling before leave town. Meet up at 12 or earlier and Silver will come to RR later at noon?

But as Fox said no way will it atke me 5 hours to do this, after he belayed me for 5 hours. Well upon completion he asked me how long it took and i replied 5 hours. Fox is no slouche he has done some serious pitches and PPP and he did the JR. So hes got skills.
So I should bring a headlamp too, and maybe a porta-ledge! LOL!

I don't think he'll die, but a fall into that tree doesn't look like any phun. Can't he clip the 2nd bolt (only for pro) just so the climb isn't DFU? RXXR.....I would have done the route years ago if it was the 3rd pitch of something.I don't like my "Deck" pitches that spicy anymore, (or ever).

Sorry gentlemen , my 9 drawer project has become a fifteen drawer project and I must keep at it ( I need the $). Sunday is looking rainy. Next week fer' sure.
Ron I don't think humble pie needs to be restored. A few intelligent bolts around the Pie Shop could be in order, but I'm afraid the Powers that be, would chop them.
1 a bolt anchor at the base of Pie in the sky, to allow single rope raps of that well used area. The bolts and chains at the top of Crepes have been there over 30 years.
2 A bolt at the top of True grip, half way from the end of the crack to the "Bolted" anchors, Someday someone is gonna get hurt slipping right before they get to the anchor, Knott a pretty picture 20'+ out and sideways of your last piece on knobby slab.
Just my 2 cents back to the sawdust.......

Ron I always liked the ripper on the real ( hardly ever done now) second pitch back in the days of hexes and stoppers...Into the bushes and all, funny shite....What do you think about bringing the climb into the 21st century? The hardest moves are off the ground getting into the crack anyways....why knott make it safe through the easy section?
Sorry folks my mind needs a day at the crags but I need to work while I have it ...Sunday is a Pipe dream.....

Hey D. when it get's cold and freezes around here ...the real local climbers don't go pull on the plastic we go aid climbing and free climbing the moderates with gloves (or Knott) and headlamps......We might make a hardman outta you yet....
River rock in a snowstorm and temps around -15, ask the Shack about how much phun leading Carls can be in the "right" conditions......Or the time the Indian Authorities tried to kick us off of Clear Creek in another bit of weather....HAhaha....
That's phun for us Reno Climbers, lets use our gear like the "Big" boys do in the catalogues....
A little suffering is great for the soul, and maybe someday on the big stone you'll be able to laugh at your predicament and get your arse out alive, or finish the climb.

Yo...Silver, The Lithuanian and I went up to 90' today in about 3" of snow with Mikey I and did the nines,,,, then Mikey and D did the 10's. as the light was fading and the temps dropped we rolled up and out as a few young bucks from CO rolled in....I explained a few routes and as we headed into the sunset( although behind us) , I hoped those folks had headlamps...
Most everyone else up there had the "appropriate" foot wear for frozen iced over stairs...Tall black boot's with heels...I felt a little out of place wearin' my Gortex high top Asolo's.... Temps were mild cloudy but in the 40's, knott to much sufferring was had by anyone but still a great day out.
Fatman's Mountaineering Journal, 1 any day out is a good day.2 Any day I return with all my gear is a really good day.. Miss ya and don't abuse CO too much...( we can't scroungh up the $ for bail).

What will the conditions be like for climbing on Saturday (11/27)? I'm not sure I'm ready for head-lamps in a blizzard, but I'd hate to let the cold keep me away from climbing. Out of the spots in Carville's guidebook, what's the most likely to have the least snow? River Rock, Pig Rock, Dinosaur Rock? I don't believe I've ever climbed at a temperatures lower than 60F, so any advice on how to dress for climbing in the cold would be appreciated.

Iron Butte looks great, but its not in the guidebook. I'd need a volunteer to show me around, I'm not sure I have the guts to pick routes without any beta.

Reservations for Yosemite Campground arrival dates for March 15-May 14, 2011 will go on sale December 15, 2010 at 7am Pacific time. I usually reserve sites starting late April and then through the summer and fall (Valley, Tuolumne and Valley) for weekends. Last year I had to cancel a whole bunch because nobody wanted to come with me.
Do any Reno climbers is willing to pitch in with reservations fees for Yosemite? I don't wanna freeze a whole bunch of my own $$$ for the next 6 months but if somebody is willing to pitch in I'll make the usual reservations which is about for about every other weekend. I guess once time arrives for camping and who ever goes camping can split camping fees, but like I said I would need a bid of a help with initial reservations cost.
Anybody is interested?
By the way starting May all Yosemite Valley campground reservations are gone in 2 minutes after the reservation window is open for next 30 days, so gotta be fast with those. And no Memorial Day camping, it's a nightmare there on that weekend unless you are within walking distance form camping.
I'm thinking about taking last weekend of April and May 13-15 weekends.

Mark, no worries. I have no good ideas about future myself, that's why i do make quite a few reservations and unfortunately some of them I can't make it and at the end losing a bit of $$$. I hope since there is a bigger group no reservations would be wasted. Last year I had around $400 in camping fees for Yose and that's a lot of money for me to freeze for 6 months. I got quite a few $$$ back from friends going with me but only on camping days. If some climber will pitch in a few bucks here and there it would help me to make a few more reservations than my budge allows me. I would have a list for all days available and climbers could choose which ones they can make it.

On Dec 21st l'm giving a slide show of my 2011 Grape Race/Tribal Rite solo at the Columbia Gorge Art Gallery. If anyone is interested and up that way, stop on in. $5 donation at the door. I'm not getting paid, the money goes to some community project.

BOG.. yep .. The nice thing about Reno is we get to live in Cali without paying the taxes.
One day drive to the Tetons, Yosemite, JT, Zion, City of Rocks, Shasta, Ranier, Canada, Mexico, and OK pretty much the whole western United States, and various Beaches. Not to shabby.

Yea I could put a bit of a SSPO show together. Haven't done that in a while.
I'd be fun to tell a few stories and drink a few beers!
Some time before Christmas would be best for me.
Pretty cool to be up there again.

HEY BOG my biggest local crag is El-Capitan
Alpine start from house, get through gate before rangers show up..
Climb all day..
In bed at home by midnight.
Draino sucks eh?
Ok I lied.. Got me a season pass for the national parks.
I'm getting old and tamed by the system.
Getting up at 3am isn't what it used to be.
