Looks way old school. Suspenders, white pants and mountaineers coil.

Great thread, Acer! Good to see this right now.

Here's a related thread I posted about climbing with sons (with some great posts on there to add to the mix):

http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/814143/Climbing-with-Sons

There's also a thread on climbing with daughters that's pretty dang sweet.

Does any body remember the article Alison Osius did years ago re: taking infants to the crags?

As I recall there was a great picture in that article of her child hanging in a baby sling from a stopper.

These are all more than a year old... I still haven't organized pics from last summer's adventures. Good times but no climbing last summer. I'll cross my fingers and hope they're in the mood for summer 2014.

'Tis getting to be santa season and I've got a nonclimber friend whose kiddo is about six; the kid is getting into gym climbing and I got asked what's a good gift for a young climber. I figured the best answer is "more climbing" but gear suggestions would be low-commitment items like a chalk bag or shoes; media suggestions might be an R&I scrip or To Be Brave.

All those are practical suggestions. HOWEVER I remember from when I was a kid the best presents were things that had a history to them longer than "it came from REI." Anyone have any ideas, know any dirtbags or artists who'd trade a shot to their paypal for something that's been around the block or fires the imagination?

(My beer stained JT guide probably won't grab a six year old's imagination, and I probably can't get away with sending him a bong or a stolen pair of DMTs socks in the mail.)

I'm betting a kid would love playing with a cam. Book of knots might be fun too (with a length of rope or cord).
