Just before I moved from Vail, in 2004 I (along with 999 other Eagle County residents)recieved a jury summons in the mail. I wonder, if the Kobe trial had happened and if, I had had to find him guilty, what teams would have been playing, tonight?

What's wrong with Shirley?

Gladiator was a good movie. Haven't seen too many others lately. Zombies are better.

Men have nipples because they're analogous sexual structures similar to other such parts that won't be discussed here. It's really not that strange from an evolutionary standpoint.

Somebody on ABC (espn) was questioning Doc River's decision to bring the team out to LA so early (3 or 4 days) before game one . The Celtics had a rough regular season and seem to have peaked in the playoffs . They got concussions etc in the Orlando series . (and) With the 2-3-2 format http://www.nba.com/finals2003/breakdown_232.html they are hard pressed from the get go . Tho I'm rooting for the Lakers , this is a likeable Celtics roster . I just hope they still have some games in them to make it interesting .

Long suffering Trailblazers fan here, I learned to hate the Lakers in the early 90's, so I'm pulling for the Celts.

Kobe is going to do his damage no matter what. The key to beating him and Jackson's triangle offense is to stop the two guys behind him: Gasol and Odom. Let Kobe go for 50, just don't let those two beat you. That's how to beat the triangle. How many titles did Jordan win before Pippen and Paxson/Armstrong turned up their game?

Here's to hoping Kobe gets 35+ field goal attempts. Problem is, he and Jackson are both too smart for that. Hate to say it, but Lakers in 7, maybe 6.

The celtics have a deeper bench (which really is the key to this series).

Plus on any given night the celtics can be a four headed dragon. now that Rando has turned into a star: KG, Ray, Paul and Rando. If all those guys catch fire in one game it's impossible to beat them.

I don't see LA in six... it might go to seven. To win in six they need to take two of the next three IN Boston.

Tonight is a huge game for Boston. Win this one and you pretty much guarantee seven games (or these series before that).

Game 4 was a nail biter . . . the Celtics shooting percentage was pretty grim in the first three quarters. I was starting to doubt their potential to shut those f#*&@!ng Lakers down. Doc Rivers had the right attitude and kept his boys from doubting themselves. Then that bench showed up in the fourth and turned things all around. Glen Davis possesses amazing desire! The Celtics have all the tools they need to win this thing and I can't wait to see that punk Kobe walk off the court empty handed.

i'll say it again, lakers are going down in LA on Tuesday. Momentum has shifted and phil put his foot in his mouth last night when he said (correctly) that celtics lose more games in 4th quarter than anyone else. Doc rivers will use this clip to motivate in game 6..

^^^I thought Pierce's response to Jackson's comment was perfect:
“You know, he’s right,’’ Paul Pierce said. “What you just said, that’s been the truth for us throughout the regular season. I haven’t really seen too much of that in the playoffs, but coaches say things to try to motivate their team. He’s supposed to give them confidence. He’s supposed to say something like that. I probably would say the same thing if I was a coach in that situation. It doesn’t bother me at all.’’

I don't think the Celtics need Jackson's huddle comment (or anything else)to motivate them...and Doc knows it. Pierce's lack of defensiveness says so much about their team confidence right now.

Another good quote from the same Boston Globe story this morning...Doc talking about Rondo pushing Artest:

I don’t like that stuff,’’ Rivers said. “Let’s just play. It was physical. There was a lot of pushing going on, but we kept getting the technicals. You know, and I understand you want to take up for your teammates, and that is good, but strength sometimes is walking away, and I tell our guys that all the time. If you want to show toughness, toughness is walking away from all the other stuff.’’

Go C's.

I think it's very telling that even when the C's lost, Doc River's kept telling them to stick to their game plan. He has unwaveringly preached the same strategy throughout the series.

Whenever the Lakers lose or are down, however, Kobe and Phil start spewing about making adjustments.

Phil Jackson is getting out coached, plain and simple.

Celts/Lakers is always one for the ages.

I totally agree that almost all of the 12 Celtics-Lakers series were/are classic (the four game 7's in these champ series have been decided by a total of 16 points...and all but two of the past 11 series went at least 6 games), BUT the "rivalry" has been, across series, quite one sided.

Celtics have won 9 out of 11...so far.

Maybe the Celtics didn't like the last time the TV camera "listened" in on Phil Jackson telling his team that Boston is the best team in the NBA at losing in the 4th quarter.

Kinda like Bush telling the insurgents in Iraq to bring it on . . .in hindsight the comment sounds pretty foolish.

I live in CO, but once a year we go to visit my sister who lives in
Newton, for Thanksgiving. Each year my brother-in-law takes me to a game,
and we sit a few rows back at center court, and make small talk with
Kevin Garnett's sister and husband. It is really fun to follow these Celtics, and yell support for them while watching the game in Boulder, wearing our Celtics shirts.

Go Celtics in six!

Hilarious that almost no one had the Celtics winning the Finals this year and now they're on the good end of an elimination game. They looked so old and feeble all year and then they turn on the gas.
Kobie is one bad mofo. Probably the best jump shot of all time. He wore himself down in the 3rd quarter and didn't have as much energy in the 4th. No other Laker could get it done.
Got to give credit to Doc Rivers. The Celtics seems more inspired and confident. Not only is the Celtics bench bringing good energy, but the Lakers have no answer for Rondo. That guy is 6'1" with a 6'9" reach. Must be nice.
Game 6 is going to be sweet! Beat LA!

That was a mauling, as Marc Jackson put it.

I'm a card-carrying Laker hater, but they were a thing of beauty last night - we can all admit that, right?

The shortcomings of the Celts - as a team and as individual players - were on naked display last night. These shortcomings are hidden when they are playing defense and rebounding, but man do they look weak on nights like last night.

Going to be hard to bounce back from that for Thursday. I'm sticking with Lakers in 7, the bastards.

Tony Allen - far and away my favorite player of the Finals. I've never seen anyone D up Kobe like he does. Visions of Joe Dumars smothering MJ!

Ya without Perkins, there was little chance but C's scrapped still.

My Transmogrification: From Ultimate Lakers Fanboi to seriously not.

Man, I was such a huge fan of the lakers. I watched Kareem shoot a hook shot through mini binoculars at the FORUM (staples center, cough cough). I was probably 7 or 8 years old. That's a strong childhood memory. That same day I got the autographs of Dan Ford, Kurt Rambis (waaaaaay back when he rode the pine), and some other random Laker.

I had posters of all the Laker stars and perfected my James Worthy finger roll against all the fools in high school. I was such a fanboi of Worthy that I even imitated his autograph (on the poster). Still sign checks a la Big Game James...

Don't get me wrong, I hearted 'Nique and Bernard King, Clyde the Glyde and all the "superstars" of the 80s (except Celtics), but the lakers were IT! Showtime!

I despised the Celtics. When I played my brother on Julius Erving and Larry Bird Go One-on-One (Apple IIe) I never, ever let him play Dr. J. He usually drained 3 pointers and fadeaways all night, kinda the real Bird.

I had the bitchin' purple/gold Converse which coach wouldn't let me wear (Team colors were orange/black) but I still donned at home and in pickup games.

After Magic beat the Celts with that epic hook shot, I put that in my arsenal. My E shot in horse is still a hook from the top of the key. It's a killer...I still say "Majic!"

Like I linked earlier, Red Hot Chili Peps "MJ" was on repeat on my cassette player. That and Kurtis Blow's "Basketball". I hated Ainge and gave DJ-Dennis Johnson-a grudging respect. He always seemed to hit the crucial 17 footer from just beyond the L that I practiced to mastery.

Things started changing when the Lakers traded Shaq. I'd always liked the Diesel...I've even seen all of Kazaam. I couldn't believe the Heat won the title that one year.

...after http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/kobebryant1.html Kobe black mambaed http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=black+mamba (NSFW)that girl in CO, I just really didn't like the Lakers.

Edit: (1 out of 57 pages) http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0924041kobea19.html

I guess it's kind of like Cos, morals, values...I'm pretty tolerant in terms of all sorts of behavior but black mambaing is way over the line. Or sexual assault...whaever u wanna call it. Mebbe I'm just getting old. Perhaps the fact that Bryant has a daughter makes it slightly more egregious in my mind...or lawyer up with $$$ distorting justiz.

Buss seems pretty sleazy, too. Birds of a feather? U make the call...

I can never figure out why fans yelll "Kobe Sucks" when clearly, he is very good at basketball, like, the best. Why not yell something that might actually affect his game, get in his head...something like "Rape-ist....Rape-ist"....

Anyways, go whoevers playing the lakers...

As far as the rest, there's on court and off court and it's important to separate the two. As a then Eagle county resident, who received a jury Summons for the anticipated Kobe circus, that Black Mamba thing was no slam dunk. there is a reason they dropped the charges, and a reason that law enforcement was not compelled to follow up on it. This was not a full Ike turner situation...

Trivia question, what Gonzo jounralist was in the next ER to Kobe? for extra points what Taco has also been cut on by the same team?

lakers--big, deepwater trout, right?

thought so until last night. on the tube at the sushi bar and strange roadblocks downtown, helicopters in the air, worse than when some weird president comes to town. people on the sidewalks outside of bars looking at it through the windows--now that's unusual in this burg. you'd hear roars like from a street riot, and it turns out someone had shot a basket.

we went to a concert of a group called fishtank ensemble at a club called the bordello. if you ever get to hear a real gypsy violinist, you won't have to see god.

who won that game anyway?

the LA river is special, and sometimes quite scary, when it's flowing. it used to have steelhead runs, which still happen in some of the creeks out at malibu. but no lake trout.

Anyone catch that game tonight with Phx? I only caught the three overtimes. ALL the players were on fire! That's what it's about! 5.14 team freesolo!

Lakers in six or less, for the Championiship! You heardit here first!

So, do the Lakers get to pummel the bulls in the finals this year?

Down 0-2 and heading to Dallas - I think you have your answer.

A resounding NO.

Miami/ Dallas - Miami in six.

And this is probably the end of the dominance of the Lakers. There are too many other teams that are really good and looking to get better. Miami will be better next year. OK will be just as good. Chicago will be better. Heck, even the Knicks might be a really good team.

Boston is done for. The Lakers will compete but unless they bring in some big free agent their time is over. Dallas might be a one and done team this year. All those guys are pretty damn old. And of course San Antonio is "turn 'em over, their done".

Heck, I might even argue that the power has finally switched from the West to the East. Certainly it's closer. It'll be interesting to see what happens in free agency.

Well, the east has sure been shaken up--both with some injuries to stars (I had the Bulls picked with a healthy Rose) and Dwayne Wade laying an egg in Miami.

Some nights the Celtics look like they could go all the way to the finals. Other nights they look tired.

My gut says the Pacers have the fire to take the East, beating the Celtics in 7, after a 7 game blood-fest over Phillie.

OKC over LA in 6. The Lakers can't win a series on free throws and Durant is the iceman of closers.

How 'bout the Spurs 24 point come back? Looked like Griifin had just climbed Belly Full of Bad Berries and was ready to puke. And how about Parker dominating Paul? Spurs take the broom to the valiant Clips.

Pop does so well slowing down teams that rely on isolation offense. Spurs beat OKC in 6.

Spurs dismantle the Pacers in 5.

What do you say Kurt? This thing belongs to the best TEAM--#5 for the Spurs.

Lakers will lose tonight. Spurs will take it all. Tim Duncan deserves more respect.

From the length of those shorts, Bill and Wilt must needed have some special taping. And, Bill Russell was by no means small, but compare the arms and shoulders of these two gentlemen. Wilt was even stronger than Ralph Sampson.

"Lakers" doesn't make any sense as a name in LA
"After a recent near-accident on a British Airways flight — the plane lost power as it approached the runway from the air — the pilot singled out the co-pilot for his heroism in averting disaster: “Mr Coward did a most remarkable job in landing the aircraft.”

I miss Dr. J, Wilt and the Showtime Laker crew.

And if Tim Duncan looks sleepy, what are we gonna change Sleepy Sam Perkins name to?

Last hope is Celts I guess. How I hate the young team vs old team bulsshit commentaries. If young is the trend, then soon enough we'll be watchin' bunch of pimple faced prom-date rejects hoopin' it up in the NBA.

Lakers have lost the plot. They are more concerned about marketing than building winning teams these days. $48M on Kobe at this point in his career?

The Lakers could probably benefit from Fletch.
I'm just glad Chick didn't have to endure this.
