We just picked up a refurbished teardrop trailer today - needs some work, but it is camp-ready as it is.

We got a great deal on this rig - the guy that sold it to us is retired, and he goes to tear-drop trailer conventions and buys and fixes them up as a hobby. He's not the greatest finish carpenter, but we saw potential, and I can fix all of the "cheap-outs" quite easily.

We are also going to paint the rig - neither of us like the plywood look. Probably continue the white theme above, and put a Nash turquoise swoop on the lower section. Also, whitewall tires and turquoise rims are in order.

Nonetheless, it is taking it's "Maid"en voyage to Yosemite in a week and a half for the Sacherer Gathering...enough back-story, here's the trailer, it's 8' long with a 2' platform on the front:

I remember a story about a guy who hitch hiked up the back side of the sierra's from Lone pine to Reno with one of those things.

He didn't have a car or truck to haul it, but people pulled over and hooked it up and and gave him a ride to the next town.

Classic.

Cool looking rig. I am sure with the skills that you and Skip have you can turn that into something special..

Gotta have some stained glass..

The Women's Day was a "display" item, along with some fake apples and other corny old-people stuff. That's my story and I am sticking to it ;)

John, that was one of the first questions I asked Skip:

"Can we get rid of the curtains and put in some stained glass?"

I wasn't sure with the waterproof windows, but Skip said no problem.

It's nice to have projects...

i got an old rig along those lines, stand up size but swoopy, compliments of an old lady that needed a bunch of junk moved.
it involved some extremely distasteful cleanup, i've developed an aptitude for such.

my ambition was to have the coolest chicken coop on the coconino. most of the cabinets were damaged and easily removed.
i should have waited. now the transport across braided trenches and revealed rockpile "roads" is a fate accompli.

turns out the cabinets were critical to holding the thing in one piece. now i have a loosely associated heap of vintage materials
in a shambles atop a sturdy frame where chickens were meant to be.

after i saw what a cougar did to my neighbor's much more substantial tin roost, i dropped the whole concept.
it's now one conversation piece among many on an estate devoid of orthodoxy.

it's clear that eggbert is on a whole different trajectory: cozy comfort, cooing condoned

The Women's Day was a "display" item, along with some fake apples and other corny old-people stuff. That's my story and I am sticking to it ;)

We bought our Westie van from old people. They left it stocked with several (opened) containers of wet wipes and hand lotion, and a Costco-sized pack of cheap toilet paper. We acknowledged their "generosity" with a polite smile but drew the line when they tried to throw in the nasty portapottie they kept behind the passenger seat. (Ew!)

You scored on the estro-mag and fake fruit. Sweet rig. Happy trails!

Yikes- note to self. No food in the egg. It's basically a paper wrapper in bear-terms.

Hiker: The cat house is just that- a house for my outdoor cat complete with furniture, and small door and steps and girly-cat-art, and electric for lighting and a heating pad for cold winter days. Years ago I had a burly old tom-cat who lived in the yard and hated being in the house so I built it for him. He immediately knew it was HIS house and lived out his dying days there. Our new big tom has also moved in now that the old cat has passed.

Edit to add: The "pineapple" trailer sounds funny. We could just paint ours white with a big yellow spot.

snug counts when it comes to cozy. most of my favorite sleeping units have wheels, even the winged one passes the bivi test.

when i accepted the weather job at the grand canyon airport, they emphasized that no housing was available.
i was fairly coy about the ace up my sleeve, that i have a long history of poaching bivies.

never one to use anything for it's intended purpose, when i ran across an immaculate '77 celica GT liftback in a flagstaff junkyard, the vision of this piece of eye candy under a tailored car cover, with me snoozing inside was quite compelling.
of course a mod that allows the passenger door to open would have to be included in the cover's design.

http://www.mainelineexotics.com/catalog/images/77%20Celica/P1010749.jpg

it lacked an engine/tranny so negotiating for this easy towing vehicle went smoothly. i feigned poverty, and arranged easy payments of twenty dollars on an every so often basis, cheaper than storage. the accounting was informal and
a friendship had evolved by the time i took delivery, winching it into the back of my cube van.

as a stealth sleeper, there are a world of parts that can be removed, the shifter boot replaced by varment screen for the breathing hole for instance. it's amazing what a featherweight it is, and to put a positive spin on predation,
it's getting even lighter; i upgraded to alloy rims off a similar vintage toyota cressida...
an effort to embellish the pretense that what dwells within is worthy of a cover.

the towbar was stored under the hood after being tugged into its current location with a fourwheeler ATV.
brakes and steering remain to facilitate more exotic placements. with a driver, (and temp seat) a snatch block,
and two equalized ATV's, there's a lot of possibilties

Bump for improvements today - getting ready for the Yosemite trip:

I also tore out the paneling in the divider area, glued and reinstalled it, as well as setting up the kitchen, and installed tie-downs on the front platform for the EZ-Up, lawn-chairs and woodbox.

Well we have made some improvements on Eggbert. We refinished the sides, trim and doors and painted everything white:

and in the last few days, I have been remodelling the "kitchen" area. The previous owner, hereto referred to as COB (that Cheap Old Bastard) installed a really flimsy set of "drawers" and sliding doors, here's a picture of the before:

Keeping the basic lay-out, Skip and I designed a more functional kitchen space. We had some nice laminate left over from the desk I built for our spare bedroom, so we decided to use it in this area. The work took about 25 hours of this week, milling, assembly, laminating, trimming, staining and a poly-urethane finish. I also replaced the flimsy hatch supports with some 1/2" solid oak legs.

From stowed mode to full deployment:
