Hi,

Good luck and hang in there Rob!

I've only been out with Rob a couple of times - kayaking and climbing - but his enthusiasm is infectious and he's a great guy. I hope that this all goes well.

Cheers, Roy

First met Rob in Josh in 82?
I should say first heard Rob (aka Rob Raker's Blaring Hatrack) from a great distance as he held court at a campsite. He was sitting on a picnic table, raving about a recent Alaska trip and eating EVERYTHING in sight. (Are you done with that?)
At first I thought this guy's a bit over the top.

Since that first meeting I've had the privilege of hanging with Raker, holding the rope while he floats stuff the rest of us struggle on. (Huge and Choice 11d/12a fist to OW roof comes to mind). His enthusiasm and positive energy are infectious and he really is somewhat of an unsung hero, another one of those amazing climbers few people know about.

I just talked with him. He's in good spirits but metaphorically facing some gnarly third class terrain threatened by big seracs.
Stay strong Rob (and Annette), we're all pulling for you brother.

Raker, what a spirit, climbs everything rock, ice and snow. During my second summer in Alaska, Rob and a friend came up to climb the Cassin and he crashed at my place in Anchorage prior to leaving for Talkeetna. While Rob was on the Cassin, my buddies and I were climbing the West Rib, brutal storms up high, forced to hunker down at 16,000’ for 5 days, I remember hoping my tent would not explode, while freight train winds hammered the mountain. Rob top out during the start of the storm and on his way down participated in the rescue of some Japanese climbers. At least one of the Japanese climbers died and rest were evacuated, on his way down Rob skied up the northwest fork of the Kahiltna and got all their gear. After our summit, we run into Rob pulling an enormous sled of gear down the Kahiltna. He has so much energy!!
Best wishes on a full recovery Rob.

Best wishes for Rob. I met him briefly in Tuolumne around 1997 - I think that he and Annette had just gotten married there. I've always remembered his warmth and hospitality - and his climbing skills.

I hope you are soon well Rob.
