Mark Chapman (Chappy, here), at least: Academy Award for Technical Achievement, 2006.

(Search under "Chapman" - it's a long article.)

That's a great question and e-kat that's news to me.
I thought rigging for stunts, FX and camera was a sure way to never get an Oscar. I've seen a couple Special Effects Coordinators (Tommy Fisher and Neil Corbould) get the statue when Viz FX gets the nod. That's the only way an FX guy gets one and the Producers and Viz FX have to agree to the deal.
Never heard of a stunt guy getting an Oscar other than maybe a Lifetime Achievement thing. Camera might get the nod under Cinematography but that will the DP I think.

Edit, Just followed the links and Chappy got one for Technical Achievement working with Cable Cam.

Belated congratulations Mark!

It was Chapman. Somewhere there are a bunch of pictures of him at a post-Oscar party. Not sure if they got posted on here or not.

hey there say, all.... i had only heard vaguely that chappy was at the oscars, yet, i never knew why... :(

our family is so scattered about calif, up and down the coast, that we never hear much news, until after the fact (though, if you can picture seven main siblings, and one tells the current-nearby-one, at the time, some info (it has to pass on, telephone style, "whenever")... and later, another tells info to the next-current-nearby-one, some other new info, at some other time.... (later to passed-on, same way, "whenever") you will get an idea why we never all know ANYTHING at one time, until "later") ... :O

oh my... :(

sure wish i HAD known then... YET, since then, i have heard a bit about much of his great work...

he is very special to me and i wish and pray that someday, i can have time to make up for the lost time---as i said, our family is very scattered...

me being in texas, for near 23 years, didn't help and i had no fund to keep in touch by phone or mail, :(

say---thanks for this GREAT SUBJECT!
AND THE great links!!!!

three cheers for you all, being the just the greatest, as to appreciating the skills that anyone of you all, both THEN and NOW...

it was a neat pic... i think???? he may have posted it here, at one time, not sure....

thanks for neat post... i really love it...
god bless to you all...

I hadn't heard that Mark had won an Oscar--fantastic. I know of at least one other climber(or former climber) who has won an Academy Award--Errol Morris a few years years ago won best documentary for Fog of War-- actually not his best movie in my opinion. Errol was very active at Devil's Lake in the '60s as a member of the notorious Terrible Trio Mountaineering Club--he wrote a classic, privately distributed guidebook to the area. He also climbed in the Gunks, Eldo, Yosemite, etc. I'm sure there are others who have won either Oscars or Emmys--Brashears?. Anybody know of others?

My brother Greg won at least one Emmy (for a movie on the brain, not climbing), maybe more, I can't recall exactly. Greg's and Bob Carmichael's film, Fall Line, was nominated in the best short subject category, but didn't win. They did get to impress their wives by taking them to the awards and after-parties, though, winning innumerable brownie points.
