So for less than $200 I'm off across the pond to Europe,,,,,uhhh T.Gordo that's europe Not syrup. I'm jazzed ! :DD (airmiles covered all but the tax and the shuttle to the airport)

Turns out my son knows a Belgium climber that is on the International Sports Climbing Federation. He and his wife and daughter are taking me climbing. I hope they let me take pics which I will post. Their daughter is rated # one in her age group in B. Love hanging with the young uns......they are always on the cultural, climbing and couture cutting edge.

It's a possibility I could hook up with Lasti's posse in Hungary. Anyway,
What a dream come true. Not nearly as great as the Donini's ....what 2 1/2 months in Patagonia ?....but we will make do :D

So depart for aeropuerto (?) at 5am .....weather is grim here torrents of rain and wind gusting pretty good....rocked my big van today. Have 50 minutes to transfer in Chicago....but starting now it's all about the moment and the people that I cross paths with.

Keep yo Taco Heads posted cause this pro wouldn't be happening if it weren't for you all...and of course my incredible familia. Thanks All for your support the past almost two years !!! Love, lynnie

Climbing in Belgium? Is that like military intelligence?
Certainly many a fine pint to surmount there but no matter:

Don't mean to discourage you but chances are good it will be something like 5 deg Celsius and raining most of the time around northern Europe.
(as it is right now >:( )

Southern Spain should be good this time of the year. Or go to the alps for some early season winter activity.

Have a good trip, and post lots of photos and stories about it!

There is reportedly lots of limestone climbing in southeast Belgium, in the Ardennes. King Albert I of Belgium was a keen climber and alpinist, and died in a climbing accident there in 1934.

Lynne-

Fabulous news!

The weather in Belgium will be a shock but summer eventually comes and it stays light until almost midnight then.

The trick is not to drink so much alcohol to get through the winter that you're too out of shape to enjoy yourself when summer comes!

Right On Lynne! Sounds like a great vacation.
It's super cold in Dec for the northern Italy latitude, however, at that level, Slovenia offers climbing at Osp, Crni Kal. Easy to get to, and if it's not nice, you aren't far from Marmolada and the Dolomiti to find the sunshine.

If you go to Hungary, consider a detour to the Vratzas in Bulgaria, you won't be disappointed...and it's dirt cheap! Budget 35 euro a day for food/lodge

Well, hopefully it'll be sunny and you can climb at Rochers de Freyr just outside of Dinant. If nothing else, Dinant is a cool hang (birthplace of the saxophone, etc).

Freyr is pretty fun. Slippery on the classics!

We climbed there in early October this year.

Les cinq ânes last pitch belay for the traversee Bourgeois (done by Jean Bourgeois in 1958):

Speaking of which:

If you run into Jean, tell him much thanks from Brian in SLC! Great day of climbing and then he buys me a beer across the street:

We also climbed at Marche Les Dames which is south facing but the starts of the routes are in the trees, which could be chilly in the winter, but, the climbing is juggy and fun. Watch out for the trains! Also at Dave, which was trickier climbing but fun, and, climbable in the rain.

Have a great trip!

Cheers,

San Diego Airport, 6am. I didn't want to ask friends or family to take me to the airport at 5am so I used a van shuttle. Lucky me, they were busy and had to send a limo. Sweet way to start the journey. :D

I may look a bit "wide". It's cause I'm wearing two coats, a fleece, shirt, long underwear, rain proof boots and pants. It was a "little" warm at times, but So Glad now !!! My baggage is "misplaced" and I have no other warm clothing. And yeah Medusa, Mark Miller, Jan, hb81 and Michael.....it is Cold and wet here.

Hey John E, thanks for your kind comments always and Peace.

Praying for Yo, donini, that none of your luggage is lost on your Patagonia Adventure. Your's is Pro way more important than mine. I did have the presence of mind to pack my harness, new boots and chalk bag in my carry on so I am good to go Jingy.

Here's my "Comfort Kit" from Iberia Air. From right to left: One xtra large white t shirt, red lint remover, brush, toothbrush, two female items, blue kemphor mouthwash, sewing kit....uh, no clothes to repair here, a hair net, an all purpose cologne for men or women ?, toothpaste, slippers to go with the tshirt, shoe shine (but no shoes), a huge spray bottle of deoderant.....are they trying to tell me something ?, and a jar of skin lotion. Hmmmmm :DD

So see Jingy, more new jobs in these Comfort kits....say where's the red wine...that would comfort. :D Peace, lynnie

It's 12:30 a.m. here now, a nine hour time difference. I'm loading pics of the big Klimax climbing gym where we climbed today and going to bed. Will post tomorrow. It was a blast and Seth and I fired....for who and what we are.

Jazzed to be going to an international bouldering contest tomorrow courtesy of one of the judges here in Belgium...indoor contest.

Double D. Howdy, Blessing to you and your family. There is climbing here in the winter, you just have to travel to find it or use the indoor gyms. The one near us is awesome.

I hope to meet up with some other climbers in different countries. I didn't plan this trip. It was created by my best friend, jesus. Met and climbed today with 4 other jesus followers. One is age 13, a fantastic climber and has the desire and will to be the best in the world. I will be posting pics of her and family tomorrow. More wonderful, gracious, kind people you will ever want to meet. Peace and Joy, lynnie

Hey, Neebee

I'm in my homebase in Belgium in a little village just outside of Brussels. Holland is close by so it's easy to get to. The freeways here are great. People only use the fast lane to pass then move over to the middle lane. The slower cars or those exiting the freeway stay in the far right lane.

They have few police and very subtle cameras for speeders. Freeway lighting is so beautiful it could be artwork. Signage is awesome.

I saw the sun for 5 minutes yesterday. But it has not rained except for a few sprinkles. It's not that bad in the winter. I can find plenty to do, plus there are very few touristas......like me :D Peace and enjoy your holiday season, Gal. lynnie

It was a total honor to spend time climbing with this family. They are all great climbers. Anak is pictured in the poster. She is #1 in Belgium in her age group. Her family workouts are awesome. Mom and Dad emphasize studying the routes thoroughly before attempting the climb.

The family climbs alot in Spain. Thirteen year old Anak (back middle) can onsite 5.12 and over..... When I talked with her she affirmed that her goal is to work hard and become #1 in the world. You Go Lassy !

These are the nicest, most humble people you'd ever want to meet. I mean taking time to climb with Seth who hasn't climbed in 3 years and lynne who is still so neubie.......and having a ton of laughs and great conversation. Teaching us a few tricks as well.

Lynnie starting up the red rock route 4+. Here the setters set the routes by color. Where I am in So Cal they put colored tape on the plastic to indicate route. Here you go by the color of the "rock". I like it. This was my final route and I actually figured out nearly all the moves myself and made it to the top. Endorphine rush that night was sweet. :D

Super Fun Gym to climb in. If you're in Belgium anywhere near Brussels or Antwerp go for it. :D

I haven't really researched our gyms all that much....but this one has some type of cardboard under the foam that if you take a bad fall for some reason the cardboard implodes/explodes ? and becomes a giant cushion when you hit it. Sounds good to me. :DD

Did pick up some cheese at Orval, though, but, uhmmm, haven't tried it yet. "How did that get in my luggage?" Too funny, the guy walking the dog around the baggage area busted some gal with some food item of some sort, but, my bag hadn't come out yet. Cute dog. Good doggie.

Give us a cheese report, Lynnie!

Yeah,Jaybro, am a bit. Seth an I looking to hook up with Wim again this Wednesday at Klimax. Also heating up the computer trying to make it work to meet up with Lasti on the coast in Italy with his climbing possee ....and perhaps Captain Chaos in Chamonix for Seth snowboarding and who knows....me skiing.

First time I've done gardening at 27 degrees. Trying to help out and the front of the house needed cleaning up. Supposed to snow for 5 whole days pretty soon. Yikes !!!!! lynnie

I have a ton more pics but camera or perhaps photo bucket is misbehaving.

Peace, lynne

Hey Doug, thanks for the prayers; hope all your projects going well !

Joey, we indeed had a huge paper wrapped bundle of frietjes with mayo couple days ago. Never tasted any fries so good :DD Mmmmmmm

I guess I need to reload my pictures.....for some reason when I go to post them off of photobucket and onto this thread it says I no longer own them....whatever that means !!!??? Never had that happen before.

Here's our friend Wim again in his official capacity as bouldering contest judge. Wim is eating delicious grilled pineapple and gouda cheese sandwhiches which he shared with Seth and I. The Belgians like their bier and food so the climbing gyms, like this one are build down below and above is a bar that serves food and drink.:D

The Gals climbed on pink holds.....the Guys on Green
Only two gals completed this problem in the 4 minutes given them. I see why Wim encourages Anak, his daughter to analyze the problem thoroughly before starting. It's all about sequence.......

Going for the dyno......

Liesbet Willocx, a strong climber, purple shirt.

Chloe Graftiaux, in red, winner of the Belgium Women's contest. Each problem must be started by a foot on the hold in the black taped boxed area.

Five 10's sponsored contestant trying to figure out the sequence.

This problem was extremely difficult. Think only one or two guys got it.

5.10 climber is Michael Timmermans and guy with the hat, Yannick Marchard.

Pretty much snowed in here with more snow predicted. Will try the local climbing gyms this week. Not as big, but close by. Now's a good time to post some more pics. Looking forward to (attempting) skiing in France in the New Year :D

It was great fun watching these best of the best here crankin' close up.
Raphael Fernandez.

Jochen Adriaensens was a gracious loser and his girlfriend on r. super cool young lady. Mom on left there to support her son.

Dynamic and smooth as silk, Jonathan Thomas won it all.

What a cool study of climbing. ^ Thanks for that.

foot work, stamina and just hanging in there to say the least. I had never seen how the lip is turned before.

Couchmaster, yes, a super sad ending to a beautiful person and an equally wonderful life. Heard about this from my friends in Belgium.
