I am procrastinating...I've been procrastinating for days. I've been compiling photos from the summer I want to turn into prints and I want to share. We had a great summer and thinking about it has kept me sane these last few weeks as finals approach.

Hungover hike to the Column. Was this the time we hauled the hibachi grill up?

Spring in Boston, visiting Grace and Dr. Watson.

Dirtbags at dusk.

Surviving rainy days in the Valley.

WE were the ones holding you up. Sorry!

Temple Crag in the background.

Venusian Blinds. (AKA Hot sunglasses!)

Cordillera Blanca, Peru

More Peru

More Peru

Summit of Vallunaraju...little glacier at 5686m.

Thanks to you all for providing the forum to share! :)

PS I deleted and reposted with a new and improved, more inclusive title. Judge me as you will; I don't regret it!!!! :)

OK ---you are a student, but you went to Yosemite and then the Sierras early summer.

Then you went to Peru and climbed something fairly big.

Your female climbing companion is an incredible dish.

How about some tales of adversity: like the story why you had to kill the dog in Peru?

Was it rabid, or were you starving?

I am the female climbing companion. How's that for adversity?

EDIT: But the dog was just hanging around camp one night. I liked how mangy he was.

As far as true adversity, things were generally pretty mellow. I can't say the same for law school.

I accidentally threw my sleeping bag off Dinner Ledge one night around 2AM as there was a storm over Glacier Point Apron and I didn't really keep my cool...that was a cold, wet adventure. Does that count?

Thanks, Munge and Clint. I've really been missing the Yosemite lifeline this past month...hence the photos. I really appreciate you posting up.

Geeze, people warned me that it would be hard, but I had no idea it was an entire lifestyle change! I assumed it would just be an extension of undergrad, which was actually pretty fun. Ha!

What's the point of doing all these cool things if no one really cares?
Huh????? $*!!2$%#3
We spend all this time and money just to impress all you MFs, but we are not foaming at the mouth right-wing gun nuts, and no one sends weird spam to our inboxes from taco accounts, so only one or two nice people actually respond.
Thanks Clint;)

Ok, back to my trailer in North Carolina.

Fun summer! I know some of those dirtbags.

I didn't spend as much time climbing this summer. Went to Hawaii instead (first time). Just the way things worked out...

Yo crew! It was a good spring eh? I remember hiking to the base of the Column to scream at you guys during the storm, then on the way down thought I had a brand new Bag.

I was like "What fuc&ing idiot's! NOOBS! Free bag! Ha then I hear the story about your spasm and the throw and just had to laugh and give it back.

Hope you guys are good, it's been a while since we had the crew together. Vic, you are needed at Arch rock this winter!

Yeah Mucci, was I stoked when you had the bag. What can I say...I do the best I can. Storm came in, I wanted to get the heck off Honeymoon Suite and down onto the main ledge. Even at the time, I knew that was ridiculous and there was more likelihood of me dropping something than being struck by lightning. Didn't matter, wandering around that ledge system at night was somehow more comfortable than anywhere else at that point, and downstairs seemed better... Oops!

I looked toward the Column towering above, into the darkness behind me, and yelled to Vic, "Uhhh, you don't even want to know."

It's really hard for two adults to fit into a short bag.

YOSGUNS Re: I am the female climbing companion. How's that for adversity?

BITD, it was tough to be a “total babe, climbing companion.”

I do not see that things have changed all that much.

However, once I got into my 30’s-----I really enjoyed climbing with women: because they were much safer to climb with than college-age guys. (Most of my peers were raising families, and were "retired from climbing")

I burned out on testosterone driven 20 year males: who seemingly were going to kill themselves and me, in the course of proving how macho they were.

Best wishes for your adventures, and I now understand that you are defending your male companion.

It’s OK-------you can tell us: why did he kill that dog? ;)

Fritz,

I've been really lucky to have a supportive partner and haven't felt that being female has detracted from my experiences at all. Sometimes, I wish I had been more assertive (in taking leads), but I realize that's just part of the game and something I, personally, have to work on.

I'm really proud of what Vic and I have done together. I am also really proud of him for not being as analytic as I am (I've definitely pushed the "I'm a woman, hear me roar" thing more), and not making things more than they actually are. He likes to climb. I like to climb. Sometimes we climb together.

When we've climbed together, we've been a great team, which is something that stays with us on and off the rock/ice/snow field/what-have-you.

PS I swear that dog is breathing!!! ;-)

Janet Jackson!

EDIT: Inside joke.

EDIT EDIT: It took me three hours to lead through the Kor Roof. I know, I know. That's just plain irresponsible. But, it was the second aid pitch I had ever led, I wanted to do it, and it was dusk when I set off, so interest from the dozen other people on Dinner Ledge that night was minimal (or pretend minimal...I'm not sure which). To encourage me, someone plugged my iPod into speakers, which was very fun.

Once I got through the bolts, placed the blind .4 (I think it was) and pulled myself up over the roof, it was already dark. The 12 men who were watching and partying below, obviously entertained by my struggles and suggestive grunts, became quiet as I turned into no more than a flickering, focused beam of light on the wall above.

I was enjoying myself quite a bit without their commentary, in the calm restricted reality of only that which was illuminated by my headlamp.

Then Janet Jackson came over the speakers. It was a REALLY girlie song, which I like. The chorus is something like, "Hold me, don't ever let me go, say it just one time...say you love me." And from the group below came a few, "What IS this crap???" I guess they thought I couldn't hear them lambasting my music selection...

Poor Janet, with no one there to defend her. At this point, I think a few of the dirtbags, boyfriend included, were a little nervous at how long it was taking me and wondered if I would finish, not kill myself in the darkness, etc. So, when I yelled down that it was Janet Jackson, some were expecting/listening for a cry for help. When they didn't understand what I had said, there were nervous shhhhs and then silence. Mucci shouted back up, "What???" Again I yelled, "JANET JACKSON!" Once they understood, there were quite a few laughs...of relief and the scene itself was pretty amusing: A dozen dirtbag climbers, on Dinner Ledge to party, forced to take a three-hour long course in girlie classics.

Thanks for the photo, Mucci. Classic.

Also, the dog was alive! In the first photo below, taken earlier in the day (you can tell by the shadow of the tent), the dog's front left paw is behind the right one. In the later photo (the shadow approached the dog as the sun set), the left front paw is on top of the right one, proving he had moved (or been moved, but let's not go there...).

Yos- glad you got a good summer in before the grind. I bookended law school with trips to SA, Patagonia the winter before I started and then Peru when I was done. I actually studied for the bar in Peru; a friend and I went to a town with an awesome left point and surfed all morning and then studied all afternoon. We just brought all of our bar review crap down there with us. I recommend doing something similar, I actually have fond memories of studying for the bar. Well, fond memories of the waves at least.

After the bar my (now) wife and I went back down to Boliva and Peru (one of the airlines was doing SFO-Lima flights for like $300). Such amazing places.

You should do an internship in the USDC for the ED of CA in YNP!

Very nice dog in the landscape and other pictures. Now get back to studying. A friend in law at Chicago could always tell you to the day how much time he had left in school.

I hear you about law school finals; I'm gearing up for another go-round right now.

I recommend using the "help! I fell in the gym!" threads on RC.com to study for torts, and the access fund threads to study for property.

At least I get one last hurrah at the Gunks this weekend before crap really hits the fan though...
