I've got a craving for some thunk thunk into a little water ice. Looks like Bozeman, Ouray, Salt Lake, Lee Vining are all still too warm. Damn, its already mid November. When's winter coming and where will it be showing up first?

No ice here on the Kenai Peninsula. Last week it was cold, in the teens and below. This week back up to fourty. Maybe somewhere else in Alaska, in the high mountains, but not in my backyard.

I just wanted to say my previous post was TOTAL sarcasm, but the above poster made me look like I knew what I was talking about. Hell of picture, shirtless ice climbing.

Where's the ice? First I need to go out and get more Scotch... how did that happen? Then we'll deal with the ice.

Hey, you Alaska folks; is the ice in Alaska such that it could be a "destination" ice climbing resort? In the past I've traveled to Utah, Colo, and Alberta to find ice. Would in be worthwhile to fly to Anchorage some time for a week of climbing, or is it too spread out and hard to get to, to be practical in such a limited time frame? How is the quality of the routes compared to other well known destinations?

Anyone ever climb the ice that forms on the right side of Drug Dome? It wasn’t looking too bad a little over a week ago… until it all fell off. Does this thing ever form up for real?

Crappy photo ‘cuz I was too lazy to walk more than 100 yards from the pavement…

Rockermike, I guess I don't have to much to go off but I'd have to say yes. Head to Valdez for the big classics. Multipitch ice with not much of an approach to speak of. There are 800ft ice climbs within an hour or two of Anchorage.

Stewie, that's not this year is it? Looks like you could use some new curved tools. Those cauliflowers are real knuckle busters. ha

(where is that?)

HJ, Ice sounds good, but is there an online source for route descriptions? I only do easy stuff WI3s and 4s. Would hate to drive that far and find everything desperate. Where might a couple of dirtbaggers stay in Bozeman or near Hyalite?
