I think it is KICKASS that Andy was in the Superbowl. He seems like a nutty fuker, in a good way. A dirtbag from Moab kissing on Madonna on Live TV! FUK, that is awesome.

Hey Elcapinyoazz, since when does this forum give a sh#t about staying climbing related?

he is currently 5 pitches up King Fisher in Moab.

I'm happy to hear the lad is now doing something worthwhile and getting even more exposure.

One of the cool things about slackline is that all you need is about $50 worth of gear and two trees.

I bet there are a lot of kids who never heard about it before saw it on the Superbowl and can look it up online and will go do it. If you have a park nearby or trees in your yard you don't even need a car or a ride to a crag, or a mentor.

Andy's been here enough to develop thick skin I wouldn't worry if he reads this thread.

Just think about what a BITCHEN thing that was for him.

So true! Slacklining is not my favorite thing (or football for that matter) but it's awesome to watch someone who loves something, and is good at it, and performs to their potential. That's a lot of what makes life rewarding, be yourself, do what you're good at, push yourself, and enjoy it!

Climbers created it, in Yosemite, with climbing gear.

LOLZ. Sure they did.

Stoner college kids were slacklining at Evergreen back in the 1970s, and the ones credited with "creating" it did so out a fascination with circus culture, hell one of them was doing lithographs of circus stuff at the time.

Even the things they try to pass off these days as new or fresh, like highlining the LA spire, had been done by the mid 1980s.

The thin skinned herd and autofluffer mentality around here is more entertaining than the circus act itself.

A google search for "Autofluffer" did not reveal too much.

What is wrong with thinking that a climber/ basejumper/ and slack liner being in the superbowl is PFC? You're usually spot on Elcapinyoazz, but you sound like a jealous whiner here.

EDIT AGAIN, do you have to be thinskinned to be an autofluffer

Surely not, those well experienced autofluffers probably have lip calluses by now, so they could be thick skinned autofluffers.

Autofluffer is the first cousin of the ball cupper, but more reflexively enthusiastic. They'll rim your trigger with vim and vigor.

What is wrong with thinking that a climber/ basejumper/ and slack liner being in the superbowl is PFC

Nothing at all wrong with it. My original query was "what does it have to do with climbing", and despite a couple of grasping and pitiful attempts to reply, the answer remains: nothing.

Autofluffing is a paradox. It requires soft and permanently flexible joints. Which, while making the act possible, defeats its purpose.

Geez Cragman, you really don't care for that whole urban techno pop spectacle do you?

High mtn peaks, alpine meadows, remote waterfalls and forests, are super aesthetic for sure.

But there is something to be said for the intensity of human creation too.

Ms Madonna has done a darn fine job of ascending to the heights of human endeavor. You don't have to like her art to give her credit for that. The many other artists she brings in to play in that event are evidence of her powers. Look here how she has our attention now. Sketchy Andy being a great new artist himself. Look how she has elevated him, and then stands on his shoulders to reach even higher for herself.

However, you are totally allowed your own opinion.

I'd wear a toga on live TV for a peck from Madonna, hell I'd even settle for a high-five.

Good on ya Andy.

Those guys at Evergreen Collage were Jeff Ellington and Adam Grosowski. They did the first attempt on Lost Arrow and the first walk of Monkey Face.

I believe Scott Balcom saw Ellington and Grosowski slacking in camp 4 and after a lot of training became the first guy to walk the Lost Arrow gap.

Andy is an amazing athlete and a super cool dude. Climbing related or not(not sure who said it was) Andy is one of the tribe and it's always nice to see one of us succeeding out there.

Oh and Cragman, like her or not, Madonna is one fit old lady.

Not much new under the sun really, "slacklining" is mostly just a reinvention of the wheel... circus folk have being doing tricks on slackrope for centuries. That said, Andy's a bad-ass dude and he pulled it out big time on live TV in front of millions of people!! You haters are just sad little boys whining in a dark closet.

Andy was pretty awesome...

But I have to disagree on the opinion of Madonna. She runs her own show, writes her own songs, and has shown an amazing range in pop music trends for over three decades. And excellent showmanship to boot!

Most of the crap on the radio is essentially robot songwriters with the next mediocre but pretty face singer, running the voice through pitch correction, and spitting it out to the masses by clubbing people on the head with it - like spam! Most of it is crap, but if only a small proportion are buying, then you make a buck. If you can sell it to stadiums/ force it onto radio and sell ads ... you make a huge buck.

Madonna isn't the Backstreet Boys or Brittany Spears... she's the real deal. Sorry boys, but the lady has talent! (and is good at spotting talent and - go Andy - who'd have predicted SLACKLINING would make such a splash? Not me... but Madonna did!)

I was just looking at some of the news stories about it and came across a comment in this article:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2097395/Andy-Lewis-Super-Bowl-2012-Madonna-halftime-slackline-dancer-YouTube-star.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

The comment says:
If you like Andy's Slacklining, pick up his graphic tee at SketchyLiving . com!

The site looks....pretty new, and says it is "sponsoring Andy Lewis."

Maybe it's legit - maybe not.

At any rate - this IS his moment! He made really great sound bites, stuff from his 5.10 interview was quoted - he jokes about how he protects himself doing those bounces, and even remembered to give due credit and compliments to Madonna. How many of us would have remembered to do that?

Hopefully he has someone looking out for his best interests, both financially and commitment-wise, so he doesn't get used and abused.

From this news story:
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/293754/20120206/super-bowl-halftime-show-tightrope-walker-andy.htm

Slacklining originated in the climbing world and has evolved into a cross trainer, family activity, and sport all its own.

Family activity?
