Thanks.
I got hooked up through the links. I thought it was curious when I typed in "zappa", and then "frank zappa", all I got was this: "No Videos found for 'frank zappa'" (which I copied directly and pasted on here)
I still don't know what "Goldfrapp" has to do with Todd Rundgren though.

Because a fire in the street
Aint like a fire in the heart
And if a cop is on the beat
Well don't ya know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any place if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some idea he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There aint no Great Society
Cuz it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy Janitor
Unless you uncle owns the store
So watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about bein poor!
"Trouble Comin Every Day"
(I did this from memory, so my apologies if I got any of the words wrong, it's the thought that counts:-)

Pretty good ydp18s.
One of my favorite Zappa Tunes!
Well I'm about to get sick
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friend
Is anybody's guess
So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Wednesday I watched the riot . . .
Seen the cops out on the street
Watched 'em throwin' rocks and stuff
And chokin' in the heat
Listened to reports
About the whisky passin' 'round
Seen the smoke and fire
And the market burnin' down
Watched while everybody
On his street would take a turn
To stomp and smash and bash and crash
And slash and bust and burn
And I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Well, you can cool it,
You can heat it . . .
'Cause, baby, I don't need it . . .
Take your TV tube and eat it
'N all that phony stuff on sports
'N all the unconfirmed reports
You know I watched that rotten box
Until my head begin to hurt
From checkin' out the way
The newsman say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so-and-so
And further they assert
That any show they'll interrupt
To bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They will be the first to tell,
Because the boys they got downtown
Are workin' hard and doin' swell,
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the street,
They say that no one blabs it faster
Their coverage can't be beat
And if another woman driver
Gets machine-gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a brownie
And you'll see it all complete
So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
Hey, you know something people?
I'm not black
But there's a whole lots a times
I wish I could say I'm not white
Well, I seen the fires burnin'
And the local people turnin'
On the merchants and the shops
Who used to sell their brooms and mops
And every other household item
Watched the mob just turn and bite 'em
And they say it served 'em right
Because a few of them are white,
And it's the same across the nation
Black and white discrimination
Yellin' "You can't understand me!"
'N all that other jazz they hand me
In the papers and TV and
All that mass stupidity
That seems to grow more every day
Each time you hear some nitwit say
He wants to go and do you in
Because the color of your skin
Just don't appeal to him
(No matter if it's black or white)
Because he's out for blood tonight
You know we got to sit around at home
And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many live
To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in the heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There ain't no Great Society
As it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
Just won't amount to nothin' more
Gonna watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor
Blow your harmonica, son!

Well, quite a few wrong, but not too bad considering the number of years and the number of dead brain cells. I whipped that one out to my 19 yr old son one time when he challenged me to do some "rap". He was blown away and was totally impressed that those lyrics came from the 60's. "I thought it was, ya know, all peace and love and far-out and stuff"

From the OP "Perhaps Kris Solem can comment as he did some production work with Frank." That the OP knows this is interesting, and limits who he or she could be to a small number of people.
Any work I did with Zappa was on some very obscure stuff. The intent was to create an "art" program for public radio, but the result which Frank and his collaborator produced could not possibly be broadcast on public airwaves. The piece was brilliant in it's own way, but today I suspect it is highly classified...
Frank Zappa's studio was quite unique, with the control room patterned after the bridge on the original Starship Enterprise.
The George Duke story is great.

"Let's Make The Water Turn Black"
Now believe me when I tell you that my song is really true
I want everyone to listen and believe
Its about some little people from a long time ago
And all the things the neighbors didnt know early in the morning daddy dinky went to work
Selling lamps & chairs to san berdino squares
And I still remember mama with her apron & her pad
Feeding all the boys at eds cafe!
Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day
(ronnie helping kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
Kennys little creatures on display!
Ronnie saves his numies on a window in his room
(a marvel to be seen: dysentery green)
While kenny & his buddies had a game out in the back:
Lets make the water turn black
We see them after school in a world of their own
(to some it might seem creepy what they do...)
The neighbors on the right sat & watched them every night
(I bet youd do the same if they was you)
Whizzing & pasting & pooting through the day
(ronnie helping kenny helping burn his poots away!)
And all the while on a shelf in the shed:
Kennys little creatures on display!
Ronnies in the army now & kennys taking pills
Oh! how they yearn to see a bomber burn!
Color flashing, thunder crashing, dynamite machine!
(wait till the fire turns green...
Wait till the fire turns green)
Wait till the fire turns green

Another favorite.
Flies all green and buzzin’
In this dungeon of despair
Prisoners grumblin
Piss they clothes
Scratch their matted hair
A tiny light from a window-hole
Hundred yards away
That all they ever get to know
’bout the regular life in the day
’bout the regular life in the day
Slime and rot and rats and snuck
Vomit on the floor
Fifty ugly soldier men
Holdin’ spears by the iron door
Stinks so bad, stones are chokin’
Weepin’ greenish drops
In the den where
The giant fire puffer woiks
And the torture never stops
The torture never stops, torture
The torture never stops
The torture never stops
Flies all green and buzzin’
In this dungeon of despair
An evil prince eats a steamin’ pig
In a tumbers right near there
In the chambers right near there
He eats de snouts an trotters first!
The loins and the groins are then dispersed
His carvin style is well rehearsed
He stands and shouts
All men be cursed (4x)
And disagree it, well no one durst
He the best of cause of all the woist
Best of cause of all the woist
He stinks so bad his stones been chokin’
Weepin’ greenish drops
In the room with the iron maiden
And the torture never stops, torture
Torture never stops
Torture never stops, torture
Torture never stops
Flies all green and buzzin’
In dungeon of despair
Who are’ll those people
That is shut away down there
Are they crazy
Are they sainted
Are they heroes someone painted
Someone painted
Are they -isms
Later ornated
Once they come they have been tainted
Once they come they have been tainted
Never been explained
Since at first it was created
But a dungeon and his kin’
Require naught but lockin’ in
Of any anything thats been
Could be a her but it’s probly a him
Could be a her but it’s probly a him
Its what’s the deal were dealin’ in
Its what’s the deal were dealin’ in
An he stinks so bad it’s hurt
To the pearl and the piles of blast
Any dungeon have a trailer
Were the torture never stops, torture
Torture never stops
Torture never stops, torture
Torture never stops
Torture never stops, talkin’ to you
Torture never stops

Blitzo,
The version with Beefheart singing Torture is not as masterful as later Frank versions, but it's just dripping with greasy, stinky BITCHINNESS!!

Pate,
Thanks for posting up that video of FZ on Crossfire. That was awesome to watch! Zappa was cool as a cucumber while that other character was losing his shit!
